I finally got to the range with my 540XR. I hoped to do better but I will blame it on the wind lol. I haven't scored it but it is pretty good. Maybe I should have brought a CZ too.
I should add, Remington 540XR, Lapua CenterX ammo, padded box front sandbag rear, Mueller scope. 50 yards club range.

Thanks, I think so too. I hoped to do better but after reviewing other results I guess I should be happy. It is much harder than I thought. Thanks guys. It was sure fun.

I think this thread really proved what we were talking about. Actual target rifles and higher end guns do shoot better. A lot of good shooting and it gives us a pretty good idea how various rifles rank in accuracy,. Very instructive.

And that was the intent. Glad to see the thread is still alive and people are trying their hand at it.

I have not posted...as....well I suck....but it is nice to see this.

I generally shoot off a lead sled and that really tells me just what the gun can do, after the loose nut behind the trigger gets more control things start to go sideways....but then I know it is 99% chance it is me, and not the gun....look how it does on its own.

It is great and I have been watching the thread from the start.

You need to get the gun off the sled.
Start off with small expectations and improve from there. As a Rifle Coach we tell new shooters first step is keep them all in the black. The black can become as big or small as you need.
And even when I shoot competitively I try to remember to shoot against myself. Doesn't make any difference what the other guy's doing as there will always be someone better on any given day.

I am pretty far from a new shooter, just a broken down old shooter with too many medical issues. It is all on me, knowing what I did once and not able to do it now is pretty depressing, and we are not talking running a 4 minute mile, this is sitting, standing, laying and shooting.....the prone thing is totally out, my neck does not have that range of motion anymore to do that.

Sucks getting old, and what is worse is being broken and in pain each and every day.

It doesn't take much to get a thread locked on here.
Actually, it’s rather simple. As long as the thread offers something interesting and/or productive and stays civil, you’re good to go. When it degrades into personal diatribes and insults, or attacks a product or particularly an individual, it goes away in a hurry

I gave it a try today with a 541 and a 18× scope using CCI SV. The ammo did way better than I expected on the top two bulls. I moved the rifle in the rear bag and didn't do so great on the bottom pair....I believe the results are pretty good for $2.50 a box ammo,.though.

Perhaps I will give it a try with the same gun and some match grade ammo.
