Rimfire Prove it.

I managed to shoot one sheet this evening. A bit out of the norm- I started with a .22 mag. A CZ 452-2E with a BSA .22 Special 3-9x32. CCI Maxi-mag 40 gr TMJ. Single large bag for the fore-end. Wind was gusting 5-18mph. I don't know what I have proved except that I'm not a benchrest guy. Haha. I look forward to getting out with the .22lr CZ452 and trying to do better. 107 for me and the magnum.

This rifle deserves a better scope. J.C. Higgins Model 30 my Grandpa bought, passed to my Dad and now it is mine. I can remember my dad buying the scope, a Weaver D4, in the early 70's. It cost seven dollars. Apparently he lost one of the mount bolts but had one that fit it just fine. He was a hunter and an extremely avid fisherman but not a gun guy. The limit of the scopes clarity is about 25-30yds. Score is 66 by my count.

So based on comments that these targets are hard to see, especially seeing bullet holes in the black, I offer the attached as a semi-official THR Prove It rimfire target. Same dimensions as the original posted by the OP, but hopefully the different contrast will aid in aiming and scoring. Feedback welcome.

So I was out today for other reasons, but I took the CZ along to test a different ammo and the revised "Prove It" targets. Weather conditions were sunny today (compared to overcast last time I was out) with temps in the mid 80s. I found the target much easier to see, so it was easier to get the scope tuned to the point of impact. Target shows it.

Gun: CZ 452 American 16 (this time without the can)
Scope: Meuller APV 4.5-14X40
Ammo: SK Standard Plus
Score: 115

You guys are showing some great targets here. I finally got back to the range to try my luck with my CMMG. The first time I went out my gun was acting up. When I went home to clean it up and see what was going on I found I had a broken firing pin. Don't ask me how that happened. Anyway, I got a new pin and its running fine.

I tried CCI standard velocity. 112 I thought I would do better. Maybe I need a little practice.

Also tried some CMP I had laying around. 111 I'm not to surprised about that. The CMP never impressed me.

After I practice a bit I will try it again with some better ammunition. I have some better stuff on order.

The white targets reminded me of the small plates on one of my racks out back so I decided to play with my “shop” Remington 510 $36 at an estate sale, some glue, sandpaper and stain (bottom left).

It’s a little windy today and gusty so I shot it from 60 yards so the back of my shop could block the wind for me. I am bad enough standing without the wind blowing me around. On a good day I can consistently nail the 2.75 plates standing from that distance but I guess today wasn’t a good day. I added up 38 points but even that’s a little cheating as my bottom right target had a hit that was actually a miss from the bottom left one so maybe 34 points would be more honest.

I think I might try again when the wind dies down, move up to 50 yds and make everything black except the target itself vs just the black ring and see what difference that makes.
