Rimfire Prove it.

Guess someone has to post first. Not a spectacular outing, I spent the better part of 2 hours testing centerfire followed by a quick scope zero on a 10/22 at 25 yards before getting down to business. I checked in at 5:10 and was the last to leave at 7:50.

Rifle is a CZ 452 Trainer, all stock with VX-2 4-12x AO Windplex reticle. I was zeroed for Aguila SE so I used a preliminary target to zero for Lapua. Equipment fired off concrete bench, 2x12 stool, 30 year old Hoppe’s rest with Caldwell front bag, Protektor rear.

Sunny and 80 degrees, local weather claimed a 10mph E wind but I’d wager it was closer to 4mph, swirling as usual, with 38 percent humidity.

Hoping to get enough time to shoot this again with bipod and perhaps open sights on one of my other rifles. Even with a paltry 113 I had fun!

Dropped more points than I hoped and I hope I scored it correctly.

It was dried up but the only other ammo I brought was Automatch for the 10/22. Luckily I’m down to the last 3 boxes. Still, I didn’t want to make excuses.

You didn't make an excuse...I noted a problem for you. Had that ammo been fresh, i believe your results would have beem better.

I had about 5 bricks of dried up Eley Match. It wouldn't shoot an inch group out of my 40x rifles.

Skylerbone,

I would have scored your targets differently. #1 29, #2 28, #3 30 #4 29 for 116 total. The shot just has to cut the higher scoring ring to get that value. At least that's the way I've always done it.

When I flattened it out for scoring it was clear the holes had not broken the lines. My iPhone was inverting the camera until I angled the shots slightly so what you may be seeing is an illusion. That and the target backers were really eaten up, fairly unusual on the 50 line at my club. Most guys shoot the 25 or use the centerfire range which can host larger groups.

Maybe post a scoring guide in the original post? The only competition ive ever shot was field archery, and a broken line equals the higher scoring point, also thats easy since the arrows stuck there.
Can you use case or bullet as a plug to determine if a shot breaks the line, should we just say eyeball it and call it good etc?

I actually got out yesterday and forgot my targets in the printer, also my range finder, so I probably wouldnt have shot even if i remembered the targets.

I'd say at least a 115
If you flatten the target then you need a plug or for informal (us) a 22 cal bullet inserted just to full diameter.

It's our challenge, his rest is legal, he contacted me prior ti shooting. I told him just disclose it in your post.

I can see where people may be looking at targets #1 &#2 which I scored: 10-09-09, and 10-09-08. The first left something like a “hanging chad” but there was a crisp outer circle on the 10-ring when examined. Target #2 had a nine that hit an unsupported portion (a hole in the plywood backer) allowing the impact tears in the paper to breech the 10-ring as it came close. While I did not have a plug, I think in-person, 113 is where everyone would have scored it.

I’m just looking forward to seeing some better shooting from the rest of you; I wish you all good shooting and good fun.

As to not hijack another thread.
I'm asking the mods to allow a friendly RIMFIRE challenge that developed on another thread. Anyone is free to join in per rules listed.
Print the target, scale to fit an 8-1/2 x 11 piece of paper. 3 shots per bull, total 12 shots / 120 points. 50 yards, any sight, any position. NO LEAD SLEDS or BENCH REST COMPETITION BIPODS. Standard folding bipods, front and rear bags OK.

Post a pick of your target below with details, rifle, sight, ammo, position ...

Machine rests legal?

Good question. What's the OP say?

I DON’T assume that leniency means any windage and elevation adjustable machine rest is legal, however. Especially with F-class type ski-pods prohibited. I run WAY better from a machine rest than a ski-pod.

I left my Bald Eagle with windage top at home after consulting the OP, and were it not for an emergency violin bridge repair for my daughter after work I would have grabbed my sandbags from storage and not forgotten my Harris bipod. The spirit of the “match” is a friendly invite to post a common target using minimal equipment. That allows the shooter, rifle, and ammo to “prove it”, at least as I understand things. Most fun I’ve had this season!

All of my .22 rifles are open sighted, and I only shoot cheap ammo.

After seeing Skylerbone's results I realize that this is completely out of my league. Heck, my front sight would be "minute of bull" at 50 yards.

Shoot it anyway! The scope was almost a hindrance as the reticle subtended nearly all of the 10-ring and without a heavy duplex to the side to confirm positioning, I was left counting wind ticks to center. Lower magnification didn’t seem to help much.

Time permitting, I’d like to shoot this with a few different rifles to include irons. That leaves me with a Savage Model 7, Savage Rascal, Rossi single-shot, or 10/22. None of those are high dollar or particularly known for accuracy (I’d put money on the Rascal being the best of those).

Just have fun.

I gotta see if one of the outdoor ranges around me will let me shoot the "prove it" target. They usually come down on me for using anything but their targets. Last time I put 1" dot stickers on one their targets I got told I couldn't do it again.

These particular ranges are looking to sell more of their own products and not much else.

I agree, Shoot it!

Im going to try shoot my buck mark with both its 10" heavy barrel and scope, and its 5.5 slab side opens. Ill be lucky to be in the black with the 10, and lucky to be on paper with the 5.5

Won't be able to shoot till Tue afternoon.
Tuesday will be a scope day - might be a Win 75, CZ 452, Rem 580, 10/22 LVT
Wednesday will be an iron sight day Win 75, Rem 521T, CZ99, Kim 82G
