Risk & Reward Centerfire Match:

I apologize for my delinquency, I have been working to get internet restored after a lightning strike. Fortunately there were no injures or noticeable damage to the house...though there were a few casualties, including: a TV, cable modem, router, network switch, laserjet, and UPS Surge Protector/PSU...I think we got off pretty easy (I have witnessed far worse). At any rate, I am just now getting somewhat caught up thanks to my ever-helpful ISP (<yep, that there is sarcasm), so forgive me if I am a little late starting the new match tomorrow.

Jim, looks like the new rifle is living up to expectations. Folks are really going to start cursing you when you get a load worked up for it. ;)

Hey I got about 1000 rounds of the PRVI surplus. It shoots well enough I don't think I'll use anything else until I run out of it. That way others won't yell at me too bad.

Oh yeah, I ordered a Major Plaster "Ultimate Sniper" stock by Choate for the .223. It shipped yesterday from Combat Stocks in Chelmsford, MA] and according to UPS it should be here Tuesday. The .223 and .308's will stay in the "unlimited/target" class as neither came with Irons and no place to put 'em. I suspect I'll shoot the .223 more as it's really pretty good. 3 pound, slightly creepy trigger though, I think I'll invest another $85 in a Rifle Basix SAV-1 replacement trigger so I can adjust out the creep a bit better and set it to my favorite of 2 pounds.

I wouldnt change ammo, dont see how you could do much better than the targets you already shot.

Kinda what I thought Orlando, definitely a "don't fix it if it ain't broke" situation, and besides the ammo was cheap. It don't get much better than cheap ammo that shoots better than MOA!

I've heard a lot of people dissing Prvi ammo, but surprisingly, I've never had any that didn't shoot good. Have had a few bad primers in this lot, 5 that didn't wanna go BANG even with multiple primer hits. Bought it from AIM surplus and let them know. They took down the lot number 1101-03 and said keep track of how many bad ones there are - they'll compensate me for them. Won't use this lot for SHTF storage, just for plinking & varmint thumping, and keep the good Lake City SS109's for the serious stuff (got a couple thou of that stuff, but can't shoot it on the indoor range due to the green tip (penetrator steel core).

Gun show next weekend here and I'll probably pick up another case of Lake City (Federal) 55 grain FMJ's or maybe some 62 grain match if they have it at a reasonable price. Rifle has a 1 in 9 barrel so it should shoot the heavier stuff okay if not better than the 55's.

You'll hear no arguments from me. :neener:

In spite of your results, I can't imagine a well-developed handload performing any worse (FWIW Privi has proven to be decent brass IME). That said, I would pull a couple of those cartridges to try and identify the powder type and quantity for a starting point, top it off with an A-max or SMK and work from there.

:)

Well, I got out and shot this target last weekend. Being that I made all of 37 points on the best one, I don't suppose it's worth the fuss of scanning it. Used my new Savage .243 off sandbags. It's got 65 rounds through it so far, and I'm really enjoying it, but it's sure showing me my weaknesses. :D I'm kind of new to scoped, precision riflery - hopefully, I'll improve in the future.

Alright, finally getting around to tallying the results.
