safe .44 mag defensive ammo?

Place a snake shot in the first cylinder and if that didn't "get er done" have the next bullet something solid.

I really cannot believe that anyone actually suggested that. I really, really cannot.

If you are interested in a magnum loading the new Speer Gold Dot short barrel loading should be a good choice as would the Winchester Silver Tip.

I personally would and do use a 44 Special load for a lot of reasons. I prefer the CCI Blaser loaded with the 200 grain Gold Dot.

I would stay away from frangible loads unless you have no other choice. I just don't trust them at oblique angles or on really big individuals.

+1. Just about perfect as a self defense load. And these are quite accurate.

Yes, it's the same bullet. If you have a 44mag, why not get a few more FPS? The Short Barrel load is very mild for a magnum.

I will try the SB load. I have been very, very pleased with the accuracy, handling characteristics, recoil, and cost of the Blaser 44 Special load with the 200 gr Gold Dot Hollow Point.

I will have to think the SB load is incredible to change, but I am going to try it out.

The equilibrium round for self-defense would probably be a big bore, 200 grain bullet going at about 1,000 FPS. Anything more is too much.

The Short Barrel .44 Magnum ammo is probably the closest to that. If you had a 4" .44 Magnum and could stand the width and weight of the gun, it'd make a cool CCW piece.

Buffalo Bore Ammunition 44 Remington Magnum +P+ 340 Grain Lead Flat Nose Gas Check

That would work but he asked for something that wouldnt go through the BG and his neighbor and his neighbor's neighbor. LOL

Not to mention instant Carpal Tunnel.

C-grunt,

I figure if I need to kill something with a round that powerful, I'd go with a rifle, hahaha.
