Shooting vs. hoarding

Shooter here. But I might be a hybrid shooter/hoader soon. It started with my S&W 28-2. S-serial number, probably made in '66, '67. If the grips matched, it might be a nice collector's piece. Even without that, I sometimes wonder if I should get an ugly 'un to shoot and maybe erect a shrine for this one. :D

If I had the money to both hoard and shoot, I would. However, I don't and would rather shoot than buy stuff that never gets fired.

Shooting vs, Hoarding

I shoot everything I have, but I also hoard!!! I have bought several guns just because they are great guns, and then some of them have gone out of production, like my 357 Redhawk, original BearCat, SP101's in 22, Security Sixes, etc.etc.
I view my guns as a sort of savings account, if I ever needed the money I can get back at least ALL my money sometimes a lot more. Luckily I've never had to do that!!!:)
And when I leave this life my Son's and Daughter, (or son in Law) will have a whole lot of fine guns and all the accompining ammo. And they won't have to worry about any "Gun Bans" as I have already purchased them in advance. I'd rather have the money tied up in fine guns than siting in a Bank somewhere, I get a lot more satisfaction from them than the money would ever give me.:D But fortunately I have a pretty good amount in the bank to. Never took the money from family needs or wants. :)

I have been hoarding, nothing but safe queens since 1993. In December I emptied the safe and I’m in the process of collecting a “few” modern day pieces that are more functional than what I had – so that should lead to more shooting!!

c. can't think of a practical application

some ideas,

1.) perimeter security
2.) foreign invasion, anti-eq and LR personnel, psy-ops on enemy with limited rural mobility
3.) fascist seizure of America, refer to 1 and 2

not that any of these would ever happen. history shows us that all things are constant, the unexpected never occurs, and nations are immune from massive change in short periods of time resulting from civil unrest, political revolution, and invasion. so I was just throwing out ideas.

Hmmm. My initial reaction is that I would love to be a hoarder. That would mean I have the means to purchase as many as my heart desires. However when I think about it in a "critical thinking" way. It is possible to have to many IMHO. If you have something you enjoy having but never use or intend to use what good is it? If it is a collectors item and appreciates by not using it (ie: a 57 chev fuelie) than by all means it is justifiable. On the other hand if you purchase a new XD and never shoot it, sorry pal you wasted your money. I have a relative that has a nice looking brand new road bike (honda something). Paid like 12,500 never uses it 4 yrs old w/ like 1000 miles on it. Has a fourwheeler the same way, yet he drives junkers for cars. Go figure. In my experience hoarding is more for bragging rights than anything

Collector, "hoarder," and shooting enthusiast

I have a modest collection of rifles, shotguns, pistols and revolvers. I've only ever parted with a few I didn't care for. Mainly I research each before I buy so I know what I'm getting, and I "buy and hold." I don't look at them as an investment, but I do see their value in the long run, more in terms of utility, fun, and teaching skills to friends and family and someday my kids.

I love to shoot and am proficient with all of my weapons and very good with a few. I would say that I don't shoot all of them as much as I'd like due to time, lack of close ranges, and cost of ammo.

I collect also because of, in some ways, the anti-gun movement. Everytime I buy a gun, I feel I am exercising my 2nd Amendment rights and also it gives me glee to buy a gun when I know there are those anti-gunner people that I'm pissing off. I buy guns because, as a free American I feel it is my right AND my duty. I collect guns because someday we might not be able to just walk into a store and plop down some cash or buy one from our neighbor.

Right now guns are relatively inexpensive and easy to get. That may not be the case in the future. My goal is to get one of everything I want. Once I do that I'll get two of everything. And I like buying multiple C&R guns.

That's my .02.

Shooter. I plan on being dead a long time and ALL my guns will therefore belong to someone else. I hate the thought of someone else being the first one to shoot my "safe queen" after I am gone! I'd never sell another one of my guns so how much they would've appreciated means nothing to me but having the FUN shooting them while I'm alive does! I'd shoot Wyatt Earp's gun if I owned it just to feel a little bit of what he felt. The legend of the dragon in mythology speaks of a creature that hoards gold and virgins but can't actually use either one (no wisecracks!). THere is a message for us all in that!
