Shot real Black powder for first time, I'm unimpressed

I use Pyrodex RS in my cap and ball sidelock rifles, muzzleloading percussion shotguns, and brass shot shells. Never had a problem with it. Cleans up as easy as real BP. I haven't used it in pistols, but I do have a jar of Pyrodex P just because it was a clearance sale a few years ago ($9). I always clean my guns right away so I haven't experienced any fouling being more corrosive than another. I think Pyrodex gets a bad rap, and it's a good powder. I have used both Pyrodex and T7 pellets as well, and, can confirm both degrade over time. The powder doesn't (in my experience), so that's what I use.

When you use Pyrodex for as long as I have you get used to the smell. I kinda like it but real bp does smell better. I've never smelled T7.
Chemical smell from T7. Yuck. Love the smell of blackpowder in the morning… smells like… we’re having venison tenderloin for lunch!

When I started shooting BP, all I could get was Pyrodex. Everyone said you got more shots per lb with Pyrodex, so being a cheapskate, I stuck with it. The smell of burnt Pyrodex was the smell of muzzleloading, to me anyway. Got so I loved that smell.

Recently got a flinter and had to buy some of the holy Black to get it to work. Very unimpressed with the smell of Black.

I don't understand why so many people claim to have cleanup problems with Pyrodex. A couple of passes with a bore mop and my bores are clean and shiny. T7 is almost double the price of Pyrodex here and I refuse to pay that much for a sub. I only use Swiss and Pyrodex.

It's not so much of a clean up problem, it's in high humidity areas when you can't clean right away is the problem or if you just miss some when cleaning.

If I can't conveniently clean my guns over a three day match or a day after I get back home or after a late evening hunt using BP I don't sweat it.

Many years ago I had a gun fouled up to the point it ruined some of the bluing the next day after a late deer hunt once that we didn't get in until the next early morning hours and get guns cleaned until the next day. Never again does Pyrodex go near my guns. It's the residue from the potassium perchlorate it leaves behind. It's essentially a salt residue. Anyone that knows anything about metallurgy and/or chemistry or any experience with the two combined can have an understanding of how those two things don't get along well.

It doesn't get much more humid than here in Mississippi. I hardly ever clean the same day I shoot
