It looks like 22 prices are down to 8 cents a round or a bit less? Time to start buying? With the inflationary environment I wonder how much farther prices will drop.

I would. Not close to that where I live right now. At LGS it is at least .10 per round before you get to pay a nearly 9 pct sales tax, plus a $1 fee per transaction for the privilege of exercising your 2nd amendment rights.

Like health care costs, I don’t see a massive price drop in ammo pricing anytime soon.

Stay safe.

Yes I would start buying ammo now as $.08 per round is a pretty good price. I wouldn't go crazy all at once but I would say to keep an eye on prices.

I no longer buy the cheap stuff. If it's below 12-14 cents/round it likely isn't very accurate. During a previous shortage I was always able to get the more expensive ammo so that is what I started using. I got used to a lot better accuracy and reliability. Once ammo prices went back down and the cheap stuff was back on shelves I stayed with the good stuff. I'd rather shoot less and hit more.

The last 20 years after I retired from the Army I begin to buy factory ammo every pay period as well as reloading supplies. Once I had enough of a cache I concentrated on 22lr and 22 magnum as I do not reload this. Doing so for 20 years, every pay period allowed me to enjoy my shooting throughout the droughts that have occurred without limiting my time at the range. Rimfire is always at the top of my inventory which I buy by the case because this is a great way to practice and train for me, especially my weak hand training. You shoot 50 rounds of 22lr and it costs me about
$3.50 a box I shoot .357 it's 10 times more. Of course the price I quoted for 22lr is ammo I purchased a looooooong time ago.

AmmoSeek is now showing CCI Standard Velocity at 9.0-9.5 cents per and Mini-Mag at about 11 cents per, both plus shipping. That's within my acceptable range so I may start stocking up soon as I do not expect it to go lower given our current economic situation.

For a general-purpose "use with whatever 22lr firearm that comes to hand" ammo those are my two standbys. I have a lot of other brands and types, but it's all stuff I bought years ago. I only buy CCI now. I need to pick up some more 22 mag as well though I shoot very little of that.

I am sure the match grade stuff is more accurate. That said, I find Aguila, CCI SV, and even Armscor (surprisingly) to be accurate enough for my purposes in volume. I have a significant stash of 22, but I enjoy my weekly range sessions and I can see the point at which I will be shooting a lot of 22 and not a lot of centerfire as primers continue to be rare and costly. At that point I will be going through it pretty quickly.

This. Not to mention that if you shop around the distributors that serve the target shooting community, like Champion's Choice, you can often get match ammo at very reasonable prices.

I paid a dime a pop for Minimags, just arrived from Target Sports, and glad to get them.
I will shoot them at the clubs that are running a .22 division in IDPA and in practice for USPSA where I still have to shoot centerfires. I have a fair supply of standard velocity for my M41 and High Standard.

I am going to watch a bit more before stocking up.

We are already down to $34.18/500 + free shipping and I am anticipating we may trend below $40/500 for my preferred 22LR (Aguila 40 gr CPRN boxed, not loose bulk) - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...t-shipped-pricing.902560/page-3#post-12277076

After the last shortage in 2017, when 22LR price fell below $30/500 shipped, I started this thread to track 22LR price trends - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...ammo-for-sale-under-30-for-500-rounds.825048/

Then by 2019, price dropped to $15-$20/500 shipped and I started a new price tracking thread and started stocking up big time - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/22lr-for-less-than-15-20-500-shipped.853059/

With current 22LR shortage having peaked, I started new 22LR price tracking thread in March - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...t-shipped-pricing.902560/page-3#post-12277076

After doing 40,000 rounds of 20+ brands/weights/lots of 22LR testing at 25/50/100 yards, I have found CCI SV/Blazer/Aguila 40 gr CPRN to produce smallest groups so I will be focusing on stocking up on Aguila 40 gr CPRN (I will be testing Norma Tac-22 40 gr LRN soon) - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...22lr-on-the-cheap.898035/page-2#post-12183064

You should be stockpiling 10-11 cases of your favorite .22LR ammo!
Just kidding, but now may be a good time to pick up some extra boxes of ammo.

$0.08 isn't as cheap as we've ever seen, but it's the cheapest I've seen in a while.
I agree but I stocked up well when my preferred 22LR (Aguila 40 gr CPRN) was below $20/500 shipped so I will wait a bit more to see if prices fall below $40/500.

But if you are completely out of 22LR and need to shoot, $42/500 isn't too bad, especially for Norma Tac-22.

I can reload everything I shoot and am well stocked on reloading components. The one I can't reload is .22 rimfire. Ever since the shortages of the 90s whenever I see a good price on .22 S or LR I buy it. This is especially true of match stuff. You can never have too much of the stuff and those habits have kept me enjoying shooting my .22 guns through lean times. On a side note you can never have too many primers either. :)

We have similar taste in ammo. When prices crashed in 2019 I was in pig heaven and bought by the case. I still have a lot of it, but as my primer stash continues to decline with no obvious resupply in view, I will be shooting it.

What price would get you buying? I would normally sit tight, but between increases in base metal prices and just how long this has dragged on, I am getting antsy.

I think my all time favorite for non semi auto is the aguila subsonics. Quiet and very accurate, enough to drop a squirrel.

.22LR is down to 6 cents a round ($30.00 a brick of 500) where I live but in all fairness I live in Idaho where much of it is manufactured so shipping costs are less. I’m at 30,000 rounds but I have two young grandsons that shoot a lot including Steel Challenge so we go through a lot of .22. I’ll keep on buying.

I would. Its the cheapest thing to shoot. I fire lots of 22 through my S&W M&P pistol and AR looking rifle for training, since they approximately duplicate the primary pistol and rifle I want to keep the most proficiency with.

I just bought a few thousand of the norma 40gn, I think I paid 8 or 9 cents per. I won't buy 100k at these prices but ill buy enough to shoot at these prices.

I have enough to last 2-3 years but I switched to shooting 22LR to conserve centerfire components and shot 10,000 rounds this past year. When winter rain season subsides, I plan on switching back to shooting centerfire with current project focus of accurizing 69/75 gr .223 at 100-300 yards.

Sportsman's Warehouse is selling Aguila 40 gr CPRN at $41.99/500 and price falling below $40 will trigger me to watch even closer to see if price trend heads down towards $30. Unless I see definite bottoming of prices and rebound, I will keep watching as I still have a good supply on hand. I doubt whether we would ever return back to $20/500 but for me, pricing below $30/500 would be good enough point right now for me to start stocking back up.

But as we have seen in 2017-2019, if I don't see definite bottoming of prices, I may watch further.
