Sick of an old Stereotype

The real question is why would someone read work from such a boring rambling incoherent author.

Wizard and Glass caused me to swear off King novels FOREVER

You want a good book with guns, cold war intrigue and vampires.
Read the Necroscope books by. Brian Lumley

>>GUNTALK, wondering what was the name of the flick for which you read??? Remember the writer's name, and the director???<<

Nah, I don't remember. I didn't read for the part. Just got disgusted when I read the script.

We have had several movies shot in our little town. It's picturesque here. Slow and quiet. Just the way I like it.

GUNTALK - "Nah, I don't remember. I didn't read for the part. Just got disgusted when I read the script."

Thanks, G.T. Just wondering.

Tecumseh: Are you talking about my Stephen King interview quote? It's from a book, "Bare Bones" edited by Tim Underwood and Chuck Miller, published by the McGraw-Hill Book Company in 1988. I'd never heard of it until I found it in a tiny bookstore that was closing down...when I saw it, I had to buy it. I've got no links but the ISBN is 0-07-065759-9.

There really is only one solution to this problem. Create a new stereotype for people who don't like guns. I would like to suggest some of the following criteria.
1. They are probably wealthy.
2. They are probably white and nervous about minority folk owning guns.
3. They probably believe the police should take care of everything from finding their lost little annoying dogs to sitting outside their houses at night so they can sleep safe and sound.
4. They probably own little annoying dogs.
5. They are scared of their own shadows.
6. They think Steven King is shady because he knows so much about guns.

Sounds like you're describing the typical Democrat here.

TECUMSEH-I mentioned the minority thing because I do believe that when quite a few people mention gun control, they are thinking about Black or Hispanic americans. They would never say as much, but I do think this is the case.

Stephen King has written exactly one good novel; Guns are in it aplenty, but there is liitle moral judgement on them, though few of the protagonists use one, and the one major protagonist that does, dies from gunfire. The novel more concerns good vs. evil. It is The Stand.

I think stereotypes sell to some degree. The gullible buy it hook, line, and sinker of course.
Sometimes I feel sorry for those folks in show business. What they have to put up with.
Pedantic directors. Uhg.

Haven't read King in a very long time. I think I outgrew him.
If you ask me, they should teach Cormac McCarthy in college lit courses. I read one of his books and was completely blown away. Sorry for the pun.

I'm a stereotypical gun nut:

B.A. English from a liberal arts college in Massachussettes
Spent three years teaching English abroad
M.S. Computer Information Systems
Senior technical position with a $5 Billion medical company
Married with 2 kids
Drive a VW Jetta and an Acura MDX
Have annual passes to Disney World
Active in church
Kids in private school

So much for stereotypes.

KING: I think I would like to see permits needed to get any kind of a handgun. You'd have to have your picture taken. You couldn't have any kind of a criminal record or a record of mental illness, beyond having a psychiatrist, in the last six years.
Q: Does that mean you favor gun control?
KING: No. I want people to be able to go out and get a shotgun or a rifle if they want to go hunting. I can't see mark Chapman walking up to John Lennon on the street with a .410 shoved down his pant leg and managing to pull it out, cock it, and shoot the guy. I mean, Jesus Christ! I don't think we should have a tight, nonbending gun control law in this country, but I think it's time to put some curbs on handguns. You see all those bumper stickers that say: "If guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns." Well, that's fine with me.

So, the long and short of it is, King says he's not for gun control, but he believes we should have a permit for a handgun. Call me crazy, but doesn't supporting permits or licenses for something translate to supporting control of something? And the whole Mark David Chapman-John Lennon dynamic works both ways...I can't see the archetypal 110-pound woman pulling the .410 out of her pant leg and forcing her potential rapist to at least re-consider the path he's taken in life, either. But I guess John Lennon's life was more important to Mr. King...  :barf:

Well,I'm a 50 something white male NRA member Navy and USCG veteran so I guess I qualify as a "stereotype".
Now my wife, the Lutheran Sunday school teacher,PHD Geopysicist and NRA Pistol Instructor who won't let me sell a gun, even to buy another....wonder what stereotype she fits?

Steven King is still writing books?Fancy that....
