Silly myths you have had to fight with

The British were not REALLY our allies in World War 2, because they designed their rifles so that they could use our .30 caliber ammunition but we couldn't use theirs because the .303 has a slightly larger diameter than our .30 caliber. (I heard this from a guy at Blue Ridge Arsenal in Chantilly, VA)

Of course the genius who said this didn't take into account that the 30-06 is LONGER than the .303, and will not fit into the .303 chamber.

Along the lines of the Berreta slide removal thing in Lethal Weapon 3...it was the first thing we did with my Taurus PT99...I seem to recall it working with an empty mag and no round in the chamber. After all...having bullets in it could result in another idiot statistic.

Big, I heard the same thing from a few different people, but they said it was "The ammo for the AK and the M-14/M-16."

Now, this ammo inversion was true for Vietnamese (Russian) mortars, as they used 82mm mortars, and could use American 81mm mortar shells, but not vice-versa.

The semi auto pistol went "full auto" . I say how???

I have had that happen to me.

I had a 1911 built on an alloy frame that I used for shooting combat matches in the 80s. During a shooting session the disconnector broke, and somehow jammed the sear so it would not engage the hammer.

The gun went full auto with five rounds left in the magazine.

In addition to ruining my shorts, it trashed the frame. Cracked from the hole where the mag catch is all the way back through the holes for the sear pin, the hammer pin and the safety to the back of the frame, and cracked from the opening in the mag well through the lower grip screw hole, the mainspring housing pin hole and out back of the frame on one side.

Not an experience I would recommend, but it can happen.

aparently because you have a 2 year old kid and dont want them around guns yet makes you an anti even though you own and suport gun ownership.........go figure

The reason that the Germans developed the 8x57 was so that they could use the 30-06 ammo if they ran out on the battle field. (I spit a a lot of soda out of my nose with that one.)

When shot with a 9mm,if the bullet stays in the body, it will eventually work its way to the heart and kill you.

PHP:
Guns are certainly weapons. Bullets are ammunition, and must be used in conjunction with said weapons to be effective. Delivery system or not, it is an essential part of the weapon as a whole.

I knew that would bait someone.

Now we're almost getting into philosophy. Neither the firearm nor the bullet is much use without the other, like a car and gas. But it's the bullet penetrating the flesh, not the firearm. So in the end, the bullet is the weapon not the firearm. Like throwing a knife.

In fact, you don't need a firearm to discharge a round of ammo.

Good grief.... And I suppose the guy that said that even gets to vote? :banghead:

This may have come from a movie scene in which someone did that, but that gun wasn't even a Glock, but a Beretta. Movie scenes, by their very nature, are contrived, scripted and choreographed. It is also possible for someone to grab the slide and push it back out of battery, which would keep the gun from firing, but not disassemble it.

At my last base, we had training exercises about once a quarter. They held mass briefings in a hanger usually right before the exercises that taught people who had just PCS'ed what to expect for the exercise (taught them how to sweep for "UXOs", showed a grid coordinate map for the base, etc). One of the briefings was combat arms. They had a security forces NCO going over the basic operation of the M-16 (we only qualify once every 18 months). He also mentioned that if you deploy, if you get tasked with security forces augmentee duty, and if you get issued an M-9 (which is pretty unlikely), you are patrolling the street and someone takes it away from you, you can use the slide removal method to disarm him. He called up a scared-looking admin-type to help demonstrate. She must've took about 15-20 seconds to finally get the slide off.

Here's one I've heard
5.56mm ammo can be used in an AK-74 (this was the purpose of developing the 5.45 round).

I like the one about the lady that had the .25acp under her pillow, woke up in the middle of the night with a stuffy noes and accidentally grabbed the .25acp instead of her nasal spray and shot herself in the sinusses but didn't get seriously hurt.

Everybody knows that the .25acp isn't capable of clearing a stuffy nose.

Anything you don't like is a conspiracy by the Gubmint/Big Oil/UN etc
The UN is actively trying to take away all our guns
If it has "Tactical" in the name it's 100% better
The Founding Fathers NEVER intended the 2A to apply to anything other than black powder rifles and pistols
A total restriction on a guns means rainbows and light and love everlasting
Guns....It's a penis thing

guns kill ppeople

everyone knows guns dont kill people rappers do (so do the police woop woop whoo)

sorry its a british music thing a band called goldie looking chain a welsh spoof hophop group.

you can shoot someone through their scope.

Bullletproof will stop a minigun

heres one I am not sure about so experience please.

The british army gpmg if not bolted down will pull forwards with the recoil not back?

Any cartridge designed over 15 minutes ago is outdated, obsolete, and somehow less effective than it was when it was first introduced...

Oh yes, one more. My shift supervisor (who is rooting for Obama btw):
"I don't think civilians should be able to carry firearms. Police are much better trained in their use, so it's okay for them to"
:banghead:

"Quote: (From Leanwolf.)
You can buy machine guns through the mail.

GUNNERPALACE - In the 20's you could."

Yeah, but we're talking about the "myths" of today, and there are a lot of very ignorant people out there who hear those lies from the Brady Bunch Fools, who still believe it.
L.W.

That would require a muzzle velocity of 36,700 fps. I imagine recoil would be impressive.

Got that once with my cz52. had to apologize to nasa for causing tom hanks to be disallowed the moon walk during the apollo 13 mission. opps!

That if everybody would quit hording
ammunition, the bullet makers would
have to lower the price. As I understand
this theory, it will make more ammunition
available. Have heard this numerous times
here at THR and elsewhere.

While you are entitled here, this DOES apply in all truth to surplus ammo. If you horde surplus ammo, you drive up the price, jerk.

also, username clark is a myth because I don't acknowledge people that don't agree with me. :p
