You gotta know the local laws...

California is a "flee" state when mere property is involved. Sad but true.

Even if your life is threatened, you must seek a retreat. Sad but true.

It does not matter that this guy may be on a short rope at work and if he is a no show he may lose his employment. No his "life" was not at risk, only his "livlihood."

Seems like I recall reading about a TX repo man getting killed by the car's "owner".

I can't remember if the shooter was indicted or not, but I'm pretty sure he never served time.

They really mean it--you can shoot people to keep them from taking your stuff.

Some time back, a fellow was having a spate of robberies in Mesquite, TX. Seemed like the same people were hitting his place while he was at work. They'd wait for him to replace the stolen stuff and then take it again. Finally he had enough and set his alarm system to dial his beeper instead of the police.

Next time they broke in, the pager went off and he arrived just about the time they were driving off. He unlimbered his deer rifle and shot one of them in the back of the head. He pulled the second shot a bit low and paralyzed the second thief.

No criminal charges--I seem to recall that there was a civil suit over the matter though.

My new neighbor is from TX and he works for Wells Fargo. He is in the mortgage department. Anyway, it was his office that issued the repo "warrant" or whatever it is called. He personally knew the repo guy because he had worked with him many times. The "owner" of the vehicle was sent numerous letters and was left numerous messages on his answering machine warning him if he does not pay his car will be repossesed. When the repo man showed up, he hooked up the vehicle and drove down the street before the man got out of the house with his .30-06. He shot the repo guy in the back of the head and the tow truck drove off into a ditch at the end of the road. The shooter then went back inside and went back to sleep. I do not recall if Chris told me the guy was charged or not, but he got off scott free regaurdless.

Just another reason why we need Nevada to invade and colonize us. Just like in Texas, you can shoot a man for trying to steal your chattel (personal property). Now, the shooting of a repro-man shouldn't be condoned by the law. It's not the shooter's chattel but the bank's as he forfeited it by failure to make payments.

The shooting of the repo man wasn't condoned by law. The shooting of someone who made the mistake of behaving like a thief was condoned.

ysr_racer says:

This man attacked me. I will press charges. I will cooperate fully within 24 hours after I speak to my attorney.

Dude, was this you? Did you waste that bastid?

Can't have the peasents getting uppity and thinkin' they have a right to own and defend anything. That's only for the elite who live behind guarded walls...

Saw this on the channel 9 new last night the reported stated that when the home owner cnfronted the perps one ran the other pointed a gun at the home owner who shot the perp. Anyway differs from the papers account.

If this is true, then i'm completely behind this guy, if he simply shot someone breaking into his car, I am not.

I am a proponent of the low-ready, pump-shotgun "get the F*** away from my car" approach.

wasn't it horse stealing that was a crime punished with a rope necktie at one time?

Yeah, but technically that's defending your horses life. :D

This threads a perfect example of why the great VOTING undecided masses think that gun owners are all yahoos.

Shooting somene for stealing a car indeed.

I am still curious as to the actual facts of the situation. On the radio, I heard that one of the car theives was armed. Some of the smaller papers also reported the same.

That would almost definitely affect how the prosecutor would deal with this.

BG: "Hi. I am not here to hurt you, but I am here to steal your car/livelyhood."

GG: "Ok, let me know if I can help."

OR

BG: "Hi. I am not here to hurt you, but I am here to ask you to kindly leave your house and possessions so I can live here and have them."

GG: "Ok. Can I at least take my family pictures?"

Sorry, you wont find me repeating those lines. YOU will however see me holding said BG at gunpoint ready to blow his head off if he makes a threatening move towards me or my belongings. I have been stolen from before, and it WONT happen again if I have any say in it.:fire:

Dude, was this you? Did you waste that bastid?

If you're EVER involved in any type of confrontation the ONLY thing you should EVER say to the police is:

This man attacked me. I will press charges. I will cooperate fully within 24 hours after I speak to my attorney.

Nothing more, nothing less.
