I first saw an ad for Spitfire pepper spray in Concealed carry magazine and thought it looked interesting. I then went to their website (www.spitfire.us) and eventually ordered several of them. They don't look like pepper spray, they attach to your keys, and can be taken off of the key ring w/o removing your keys from the ignition. They cost about $15 each, and replacement canisters of spray are only $6 each.

I gave one to my better half, sister, mom, grandma, and kept one for me. Only problem I have is on mine, they work by sliding a button forward and then pushing down on that same button. Well about 1/2 the time my button would stick forward, but I called them up and they are sending me a replacement w/o even first getting mine back. I did say "don't you want me to ship the old one back?" and more or less she wasn't too concerned with me possibly trying to scam her. But she said she was going to include a shipping label to return so they could see what the problem was with it.

Overall I'm very pleased with the product and service, all the others I got seem to work fine, and maybe mine was just a fluke. Just thought I'd put this info out so others could check it out.

I'd very much like to hear how they work out over time. I like the delivery system. I couldn't see much on the website about the Scoville heat rating on their formulation. Did they include any information about it with the unit?

Great find! This link alone is a good argument for their system--they actually want to sell you non-pepper practice canisters so you can actually PRACTICE and TRAIN with your pepper spray on a regular basis.

Doesn't seem to cost any more than the standard designs, either.

I may just do what you did. My wife, sister, mom and grandmas could each use one, and that's $75 to outfit all of them. Not bad.

Buy three packs of practice canister, let each of them blast you with one canister, and you have five women better armed AND more likely to use it right than the average lady out there for barely over $100.

I was thinking of getting some type of pepper spray for my fiance. This looks to be a pretty good product. It says the heat rating is 2 million SHUs. I'm not sure what a good or bad level is so where does 2 million stand against other pepper sprays?

Well.... Fox Labs pepper spray is highly regarded by most folks I've talked to who use it in their job. It seems to have become an impromptu standard by which other pepper sprays are judged. Fox Labs stuff is rated at 5.3 million SHU.

I believe Fox also sells harmless, inert canisters for practice as well.

2 mill SHUs is about standard
But something to remember, OC isent %100 some people arent affected and it isent instant as in the viedos

Those of you thinking about pepper spray, Fox Labs Pepper Spray is some of the best to use. I'm in law enforcement and have witnessed several people sprayed. I've also used it in jail settings where the Primary response team has had some time to prepare. Those of you thinking about spray these are some good guide lines that I think could help you.
1.) The percentage of spray means very little and those over 5%-10% tend to sputter and have a poor throw.
2.) The SHI unit is the true test of its heat, the higher the number the better. The SHI units refer to how many parts sugar to one part pepper is needed to render it not hot. Jalapenos rate about 30,000, good pepper spray can go to 5,300,000. Many higher percentage listed use weaker pepper.
3.) Foam spray is almost worthless.
4.) CN or CS fortified pepper spray is a gimick. Pepper spray is much more effective than either CN or CS. CN and CS are regulated differently in many states these are man made, pepper is natural and this has made a difference is some laws.
5.) Get one with a dye. Even when one thinks its been washed off they still glow under ultraviolet light for a few days.
6.) For those on your side carry little packs or bottles of antiacids. Before, during or after using the pepper spray place the antiacids in your mouth an suck on (and I don't mean 1 or 2 pills, I mean 5 or 6) while breathing through your mouth. Never breath through your nose. The antiacids help from a little to alot due to coating your mouth and mucus glands. (This is for cops who know whats about to happen such as on a cell extraction.)
7.) To decontaminate use mild soapy water or milk. Pepper spray is acidic, milk is base so it cuts the acid better (yes you will smell like sour milk quickly, still better than feeling on fire). Pepper spray is also oil base so 10 minutes of water from a hose and it still burns, soap will clean off the oil better.
8.) Remember the wind plays a big part.
9.) After each use either throw away or thoughly wash the nozzle with warm water. Dried pepper in the hole will affect future spaying.
10.) Shake before use if able. This helps for a better throw.
11.) After 2 years throw away and buy a new one.
