I started listening to Firesign Theater records in 1972 and always thought they were hysterical. like many things from that era, it has not aged well...

of course, neither have i....

If your mind is in the right place they’re hysterical. You have to listen closely and appreciate understated satire and sarcasm. I didn’t know they were on YouTube. See yall later.

Rocketman

I fairly sure that was from Commander Cody, Sky Marshall of the Universe.

I used to watch those serials as a kid in the 50s.

Here's a quote from a website on how they did the flying sequences -

Rocketman's flying abilities were created by running a life-sized dummy along hanging from invisible wires. Special effects men Howard and Theodore Lydecker would place one end of the wires atop a hill, and the other in a valley, then let the dummy slide smoothly down to create the illusion of flight - once the film was sped up and sound added, it proved quite effective. Putting the dummy on facing backwards, so that it slid down feet first, and then printing the film backwards, gave them their take-off sequences.

Nicely done. Camp is a very specific taste, and one that hard to develop.

"I can't believe people used to sleep with one of these under their pillow." Good stuff.
