Question
New guy here. I grew up shooting a Marlin 39 lever action .22. I hadn't touched it for at least 15 years and took it in to get fixed up...it needed a new loading tube and new sights. It used to be deadly accurate with iron sights but now is off horizontally by a few inches.
Question: Can one, and if so how does one, adjust the iron sights on this gun?

The rear sight needs to be adjusted for windage. If your group is to the right of center the rear sight will need to be moved to the left (Move it the direction you want the group to go) It does not take much to move the point of impact, so you will need to tap it a bit then check your progress on the target. I use a piece of tape as a marker on the barrel in front of the rear sight so I can tell how much the rear sight has moved. You will need a brass punch and a small hammer to move the rear sight in it's dove tail. A little tapping then checking and before you know it those groups will be centered.

Been thinking about picking up a replacement for a 10/22 I recently passed on to my son. Had the choices narrowed down to the 39A, BL-22, and the Win 9422. I wanted a quality piece this time around.
Doing a little surfing, I stumbled upon The Marlin 39 Club.
Wow, what a treasure trove of information about this great little rifle. I was totally sold on choosing the 39A after spending a number of hours reading through the many posts here.
This morning I started out to search locally hoping I might be lucky enough to find a 50's to 60's Mountie model. I didn't hold out a lot of hope, as these appear to be somewhat limited in the market.
Luck or providence, the very first shop I stopped at had a 1960 Mountie they had just purchased in a group of thirteen rifles from a guy who needed some quick cash as he had recently lost his job. Bore looks new, metal and wood 95%. Action is a little sticky as it has seen no use for a good number of years, but that should clean up nicely.
After a little haggling, got the price down to $325so I didn't steal it but didn't pay too much either considering the condition and the fact it's in a preferred production year.
So hat's off to you guys for your many posts that kept me on the right path and the right choice. I'm gonna love this little rifle, and I'll be looking for your input on some different sights and perhaps a glass tube as well.

I bought a "Golden 39A in 1963 shortly after getting married (Murdered) and topped it with a Tasco 4 X 40 mm scope. I've shot enough squirrels with that puppy you could fill a pick up truck bed. I waxed the wood down with Johnsons floor wax and put a leather sling on it. I've said many times, that would be the last gun I would ever part with. I've put cases of 22's thru it and that micro grooving is still tight as a banjo string. I worked the trigger down so you could blow on it and trip the trigger. The only complaint I have it is I don't own two of them.

I just picked up a 1958-1959 39 a, shoots great! But the trigger is very stiff, any one know how to lighten it up? Thanks csa

I'm in Ohio. Nope 'fraid not. That was the only 22 in the group of 13 the guy sold to the dealer. There was a pristine M1A with scope that had only been fired once that was part of the group. Asking $1900 which is not bad since the MA1's are so hard to come by. Drooling a little over that one.

First step on a "trigger job" is to clean the hammer and trigger interfaces, then apply a good grease.
If it's still to rough, be smart.....take it to a good gunsmith.
Marlin hammers and triggers aren't cheap, and unless you know EXACTLY what you're doing you'll either make the trigger worst, or actually unsafe.
Over the years I dealt with MANY customers guns with Marlin type hammer and triggers in which a customer attempt at "fixing" the trigger left it not being able to stay cocked, or so light, a bump would drop the hammer.

Sorry, feets, there isn't one yet. You're welcome to start it off if you wish. This club is dedicated to the Marlin 39 exclusively, but I imagine a 94 club would be popular. I know I love mine *almost* as much as my Marlin 39.

Nem, I'm in. Inherited one from my maternal grandfather. Shoots one hole groups(about 30-40 cal, depending on the number of rounds) at 25 yards with remington golden bullet bulk pack believe it or not.

New to Marlin 39A
Just purchased a 1948 Marlin 39A that is very clean. Can't wait to get it to the range and run through about 500 rounds. What a great forum, went through and found that I loved how the 39 was designed and probably won't stop with this gun. Only downer is I got to wait 10 days until I can take it home.

my winter project gun
well, got the new firing pin from Brownell's after a little fitting she fires every time .... then of course i had to refinish the metal parts, cause they were really rough ... just 4 hours with a Birchwood Casy kit ($11) and all parts are hanging waiting for reassembly tomorrow .. that gave me a chance to rub oil into the stock and it now looks like new .. it turns out this gun is a 20" carbine made in 1955, so i guess it is a mountie ... next i want to put some kind of peep sight on it ....

mm6mm6 .... nice set of guns .... my wife enjoys shooting my guns but she thinks 5 lever actions 2 single sixs revolvers a ruger 45lc and an uberti outlaw are more than she can hold a one time ... i don't understand that kind of thinking and i guess you don't either ....hehehhe ....

Looking for a leather sling for your Marlin?
Since I'm not a hunter, I removed the leather sling from my newly acquired 1968 Mountie - any one looking for a sling, reasonably priced, email or PM me, it's in excellent condition - marked Hunter 230-1".

Ready for another 39 Club Match?
I've been getting a some inquiries about another model 39 club match. Not that anyone really needs and excuse to shoot their 39 ... With all the "new guys" it might be time to do it again.
JohnMcl has come up with an excellent progressively difficult target and format. Once we figure out how to post the target so y'all can download it I'll post the rules and honcho the match. I hope everyone has enough ammo and time to shoot it!

Can someone help me with my 1959 Marlin Mountie?
I want to replace the magazine tube, and I became aware that there is an "old style" and "new style" magazine tube.
I think the '59 is "old style"? Where can I get a replacement mag tube for it? Thank you.

loose hammer screw
have been shooting the 39a with the peep sight alot .. all of a sudden there are more and more FTF ... checked out the firing pin and all seems well there, BUT just by chance i saw the hammer screw was loose ...... could tighten it about half a turn ... now after maybe another 50 shots again beginning to get more FTF ... again the hammer screw was loose .... this time i used blue locktight when i tightened it ..... is this common? or is the screw or hammer pivot worn too much?

Sights: Any sights are allowed. There are separate divisions for scoped rifles and iron sighted rifles.

Range: 25 yards
Position- anyway you want, from Benched to Horseback and anything in between.
Shots:
Stage 1 = 5 shots on first bull

Stage 4 = One shot at each Bull
Scoring: Traditionally scored, touching counts higher score.
Submit your best target for each stage. Upgrades are allowed through to the match closing date, (March 2, 2009). First to submit wins ties. Winner for each stage and overall total.
Post scores in separate match thread. We want pictures if at all possible too. Those without the capability can email me for a snail-mail address and I'll do it for you.
