If you seriously want to see this rifle go to a truly appreciative individual, head over to www.rimfirecentral.com and post up in the Marlin - H&R - NEF folder. There are some enthusiasts over there that would absolutely love to get a hold of something like that.

My first post, but I'm a big fan of the Marlin 39A. It comes in close to the first gun I ever shot, and still own which is my Remington Model 41 Target Master as far as putting a bullet where you want it.

Second one down is a Winchester 94 22M XTR 22 mag.
Fourth one is a Sevens 25 that belonged to my Great Grand Dad on my Moms side.
Fifth one is a Stevens 22 that belonged to my Great Grand Dad on my Dads side of the family.
Both of the Stevens were damaged about 15 years ago due to a busted pipe in the basement. My Dad had them professionally refinished. They both look brand new, except for the 25 having a front sight made out of a dime.

Stevens 25 and 22 are falling block rifles. The 25 is just that a 25 caliber rimfire(black powder) like the 22 rimfire only 25 cal. Savage / Stevens just brought it back out as the model 30. http://www.savagearms.com/30gtd.htm Great little rifle, joy to shoot, great for instructing new shooters, right or left handed.

A tale of heartbreak & woe follows. I read the paper (Great Falls Buffoon) at 6:20 yesterday morning. In the firearms classified there appeared, for the first time, an ad announcing that a Marlin 39A could be had for $275.00. Frabjous joy!
But then, the dilemma. If I call right this very now, will I P.O. the current owner by calling too early? I vowed to wait until 7:00 AM. I broke like a mud dam at 6:50 AM & called. Only to be told that someone had called 10 minutes earlier from 60 miles out of town & offered to buy it sight unseen. The prospective buyer would arrive Friday evening. I asked the owner to call me first & immediately if the deal did not go down. He agreed he would.
Then, he told me of the mistake he'd made in the ad. It wasn't really a Marlin 39A, sorry. It was the MOUNTIE! And, of course he never called back.
I need to go beat my head against the wall for awhile to make myself stop thinking about it.

White spacers on Marlin 39A
The white spacers on my 39A seem to have shrunk over time and are much smaller than the surrounding wood. I was considering refinishing the stock and wondered if you could purchase these spacers or if you have to make them out of a piece of plastic?

Brownell's sell pre-cut spacers but they have to be sanded to the final fit:

I had a Marlin 39 M anniversity edition, this was carbine with octagon barrel w/straight stock, bought it back in the late 70's for $160. Sold it in '95 for 625 and thought was good money, bad sell!!!. I got a 1897-1997 Marlin with 1/2 octagon barrel new in box would trade for a Marlin 39M ann. edition that is in good condition.

I'm posting here following the recommendation of our fellow member "Atwoodt". He has been very helpful and I hope that I can get additional information from him and the rest of the "Club"!
I'm doing some research on behalf of a friend that has recently received a Marlin Model 39 via an inheritance of sorts. He hasn't had much luck finding any solid information on the rifle. The information I've been able to gather is quite interesting but not complete. I'm hoping that I can request your assistance in determining a few things, like actual date of manufacture, and value. If there is any history about the rifle, I would enjoy being able to provide that to my friend as well.
What I know so far is as follows:
- Marlin Model 39
- .22 Rimfire
- Is in pretty good condition, owner feels that it's 75 to 85 %. (Pics incl.)
- Bore/Rifling/Action all in very good condition
- Stock is complete, no cracks or splits
- Serial number is: S87X
- Markings; Marlin mod.39 on top tang and a small 6 sided star on top tang
near tang screw.
That's all the information I've got on the rifle. I don't have access to the rifle itself, I'm doing this research via email. I certainly would like to have the rifle in my gun safe! I'm hoping to provide my friend with some interestingly good information on his new rifle! Any help you may provide will be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance for your time and knowledge

Checking the Blue Book of Gun Values, it looks like he has quite a valuable Model 39. I can't give you an exact age or value.
Date of manufacture is probably somewhere near 1922 since the serial number is so low. Depending on the wear and tear on it (hard to tell from pictures), it can be anywhere from $1,000 to $2,000. It could be more due to this quote in the BBGV:

I'll have to find out. As soon as I can contact my friend, I'll check on any changes, etc. He hasn't mentioned anything like that. I don't think he actually knows what he has! This is another instance where someone was given a jewel and they aren't aware of it, yet... Why doesn't that happen to me? LOL!!

My first time to the range this year; my first time to shoot a .22 rifle; my first time to use a scope - this jewel (1968 Mounty) is worth its weight in gold; I had to take my ear muffs off to hear the report. I could not hit the paper at 30/40 yards though. The scope rings I have are much too high - the ones that came with scope (Nikon ProStaff 4X23) are too shallow, would not clamp on the base I have.. could not sight it properly as I do not have a rest bench to do it - I'll have to buy one - I also need the right rings. Another doubt I have is, how close to my eyeball should the scope be - I need help.

Early Marlin Model 39 "S" prefix for sale!
Following my research and through the assistance of the fine people here on the Marlin 39 Club, I was able to provide my friend with the information he had been searching for regarding his early Marlin Model 39. I appreciate all of the help provided here!!
What I found equally surprising is his desire to sell the rifle! This is one of those times when you find out something this valuable is up for sale and you don't have the extra cash to afford it! Why does this happen more often than not? Arghhhhhhh!!
The seller lives in California and is quite interested in selling it. I told him I would inquire with the members here because of the help you provided me in determining the value of the rifle.
If there are any interested collectors out there that might be interested in this fine rifle, please let me know. He has indicated what he would like to sell the rifle for and that included an "OBO" offer. I'll provide a private email contact for anyone seriously interested including his asking price. Just let me know.
