Okay, so here's the deal:
You're in a SHTF scenario and you can only use PRACTICAL (affordable) weapons. I.E.- no bazookas, automatic weapons or extremely high dollar crap. Which would you choose?

I'd go with-
.223/5.56 Ruger Mini-14 for defense rifle x 3 mags
any 1911 (most are reliable)- primary mid-range pistol x 4 mags
12 ga. Mossberg- game/self defense x25 shells
Walther G22 for small game/ last resort defense x 200 rounds
Now, I love the Bersa Thunder 380 (behind the back) for a concealed secondary pistol, but in the case of SHTF, you'd have to go with more common ammo... which, in case, I'd take a .357 mag on the ankle (since it can shoot .38spc also)
Hell, I'd take a tanto (short blade sword) or machette for shrubs/defense.

Some of you may be thinking ".223 is a weak weapon" but, .308 is way too heavy to carry on yourself with sufficent ammo. Be practical... I'd love to see how well you think this through!

your worried bout 308 being too heavy?

uhhh, how much do you think your carrying there...? and hasnt this thread been done once or 200 times?
i digress....

Yeah, we've never done this before.

And what about those of us who do have machine guns and bazookas? :)

And what about those of us who do have machine guns and bazookas?

You should give them to me. THEN you can do a SHTF like the rest of the poor peasents. ;)

PLEASE BE SPECIFIC

Just what sort of S hitting the F are you talking about here? There are several favorites here at THR.

1. Zombie attack

2. Red Dawn type attack (Godless Red Horde invasion)

3. Simple home invasion

4. Aftermath of Nuclear war

5. Breakdown of the Government (Lawlessness runs rampant on the streets)

6. Aftermath of contagious Plague

7. My wife finds my secret AR15 purchase hidden in the closet

You guys are great! First, if you own a bazooka- you scare me a little. lol... Next, I know it sounds like a lot, but, in a true SHTF scenario, you will be willing to compromise comfort for security. I have a wonderful fiance' who can shoot a .22 better than I can (and I was a marksman in the AF). And for the gent that was asking about which SHTF- any will do. Zombies are a highly unlikely scenario, but I think they can be taken out with a shot to the head, no? Even a .22 can be deadly- if it can kill our nation's most powerful man (JFK) then, I'm sure it'll work for zombies. Massive damage to the brain, right? A brain that looks like swiss cheese from the bouncing of a .22 in the skull doesn't last long. For the guy who said "how much do you plan on carrying?" What would you choose? I'm open to suggestions.

And what about those of us who do have machine guns and bazookas?

Yeah, Larry, why does everyone always hate on us? :(

I'll play along, again. My choices:

Suppressed M-16 w/ 11.5" CQB upper, with additional 20" upper (transportation permitting) for further shots
Rem 870 AOW for extreme-close quarters (read: door-breaching)
870P for slightly further distances (transportation permitting)
Para-Ordnance Colonel LDA
Walther P22 w/ suppressor

The M-16 hangs on my right side, via a SpecterGear MOUT sling.
The AOW hangs on my left side, via a Blue Force Gear Breacher's sling.
The Colonel rides on my right thigh, in a Tactical Tailor drop-leg rig.
The P-22 rides on my chest, in a Tactical Tailor 5.56 single mag pouch, with the can in a TAG ASP pouch.

For any SHTF situation I would carry the following:

"When the Boogeyman goes to sleep every night, he checks his closet for Chuck Norris."

Steelhead- You're so right, Chuck Norris is a scary mutha trucker!!! OEF-VET, you've obtained your Class 3 licence or is that what you'd LIKE to have? I give you props for the Class 3. How did you obtain it? Via Corperation or privately?

OEF and I are what's called SOTs. Special Occupational Taxpayers. We can build post '86 dealer sample machine guns for sale to law enforcement or the military, or we can deal in suppresors, and NFA items such as short barrel rifles and shotguns.

If you want an SBR or a suppresor, you don't need a special license. Provided you live in a state that allows NFA items, you fill out the applicable paperwork (your local NFA dealer can help you) get your local LE signature (easy in most jurisdictions, and when it isn't that is when you need to go the corporate route) fingerprints, photo, and send it and $200 to the ATF.

And .22s don't bounce around inside a skull. (pretty common misconception) They usually go in a little bit and stop, or if you are really lucky they might go from one side to the other and stop. Either way they make a pathetic little wound channel in brain tissue more often than not, and usually expend a good portion of the energy just going through the skull.

TBN, Cor and OEF are SOTs.

Guns are merely tools; the job selects the tool; guns matter only to the extent that you do as software trumps hardware.:)

Beware magic guns: I've had plenty of clients shot in the head with .22s, .25s, .32s and .38s. Guy lost an eye (carjacking in Chicago), but never slowed him down. Saw a .223 bounce off a baseball cap at Gunsite carbine class.

Welcome to THR.

The only weapon i'll ever need is below.

Clint_Eastwood.jpg

Everynight before bed Chuck Norris checks his Closet for Dirty Harry :) Seriously I would consider a .45 acp like the XD with 13+1 rounds, or a good 12 gauge shotgun, or a .308 browning.

Yes! Another "what guns would I bring if SHTF" thread!

I'd bring all of my guns in my tactical jeep capable of Mach III. Inside the jeep there are 100,000 rounds of ammo. Plus my jeep is stealth enabled (wasn't cheap), loaded with 10 years of food and water, radiation shielded, floats, has a full 7.1 THX certified solar powered surround sound system with 65 inch LCD monitor and 4 years worth of "Full House" and "The Brady Bunch" on DVD.

Todays take on SHTF for me would be to have 4 or 5 more Mags for my Colt Woodsman and a bunch of ammo. Normally it is a Marlin 1894C and my S&W 65 but today it is a Colt Woodsman 1st series.

Gaz- you are correct. Actually, I like the Henry .22 Survival Rifle. What a magnificent gun! Completely take-down. They used to give our pilots Henrys for survival methods. However, I chose the G22 for its weight and bullpup design. Walther is a wonderful weaponsmith- but do enlighten me with your ideal .22lr. As for Correia, I live in florida- where the circumstance that you stated (papers being signed by LE) is applicable. Too bad you have to go through that whole process for supressing a .22lr for plinking, huh? I wish they would let the .22 slide on that law. I absolutely love the Walther P22 (especially if it were suppressed). Do you have any recommendations on which BASIC neccessary weapons to carry? Since you're a moderator, I suppose you have seen MANY of these forums- so I'm sure you've got your Weapons of Choice down to a "T".

Larry,

Ain't it fun playing these games? Especially so when you're better armed than many State National Guard armories?

Y'all watch out in the event the S really does HTF. 'Cuz myself, Oleg, and a small, select group of others will be en route from middle TN to Utah. Once there, I'll assume my position as Exhulted and Esteemed Leader of Correia's Post-Apocolyptic Minnions of Torture and Torment (patent pending). All your base will be belong to us!

why is it that most of us who actually care about SHTF drive jeep wranglers? Is it some sort of genetic code that makes us uber paranoid or just always prepared for the worst? As for the Reno 911... you rock!! However, I'm more of a CSI guy (along with some Family Guy) I know this forum of SHTF is way overplayed. But for god's sake, man, what if a nuclear blast destroys the world as zombies begin to walk the earth while aliens try to take over when the government falls apart???? Geeez, you act like this could NEVER happen.

Y2k all over again.

the only weapons hmmm...bug spray?
central FL huh?? should have been here
when y2k was on and a site called
assault web.net was set up...we had a
blast. nowadays -its paintball for me.

OEF, my gunstore overlooks the freeway.

Once SHTF, I-15 is gonna become a toll road. :)

See, many folks worry about SHTF. I look at it as a business opportunity. I've always wanted to be a Warlord.

Seriously? Depends on where I am when it happens. I could be armed with anything from belt fed machine guns to a suppressed SBR AR, to a .223 AK, to a SBS Tromix 12 gauge.
