OEF_VET ,

I have seen your "act" , I even tried the veal.
You have talents.

Oleg has talents.

Me, look I can do Wood&Blue shotguns, Gimmee a Win '97 or a Ithaca 37 and I can shuck and shoot and folks think it is on full auto...

I am going to need some lessons on "da switch".

I make a pretty good interpreter on Southern drawl. I do okay unless in Cajun Country. If benet's ,craw-dads, and beads, don't work - we in trouble. :p

We better put Preacherman and Xavier on Speed dial just in case...

I always wanted to shoot out of a Helicopter coming in low and fast...

Oh Larry, you got anything in stock like that? :D

jerkface.. you must be the only one on the same page as me. scroll up a little from your mall post and look at mine.

100lbs ruck sack is doable.... its just after the first time you do it you realise there is no reason to do it. Using an Alice with tactical tailor improved straps I did a 70-80lb hump for about 20mi in summer. with those improved straps it was pretty easy but I give those that do it with normal quick release straps ALOT of credit (its annoying as heck when you tape stretches to far and they come undone). After your little adventure you see that you didn't use nearly anything you brought. Hell for SHTF a good loadbearing setup or backpack with camelback reserve is all you need. You don't want the kitchen sink (or three pairs of underwear). I'll bring my cz pcr + kadet kit, and depend who comes with me (most of my friends are gunless fools) my 03a3 and K31 for long, M1 for serious stuff, and my NEW (lordy did I need to tell someone) S&W MP15

Ok, fine.

Conventional weapons will have their place, but what we gonna do when they turn their ray guns on us?

Electronic warfare is no longer just about jamming radio signals. Nope.

Test nonlethal weapons on U.S. citizens, official says

By LOLITA C. BALDOR
Associated Press

WASHINGTON - Nonlethal weapons such as high-power microwave devices should be used on American citizens in crowd-control situations before they are used on the battlefield, the Air Force secretary said Tuesday.

Domestic use would make it easier to avoid questions in the international community over any possible safety concerns, said Air Force Secretary Michael Wynne.

"If we're not willing to use it here against our fellow citizens, then we should not be willing to use it in a wartime situation," said Wynne.

"(Because) if I hit somebody with a nonlethal weapon and they claim that it injured them in a way that was not intended, I think that I would be vilified in the world press."

The Air Force has funded research into nonlethal weapons, but he said the service isn't likely to spend more money on development until injury issues are reviewed by medical experts and resolved.

Nonlethal weapons can weaken people if they are hit with the beam.

Some of the weapons can emit short, intense energy pulses that also disable some electronic devices.

Non-lethal my ars.

The dose makes the poison. When I was in electronics school we took a magnetron out of a microwave oven. Not telling what we did with it. Use your imaginations, ok?

We got our lead lined kevlar suits on order? Or maybe we have already built a farady cage into the wall of a room in our house...like that will do us any good when TSHTF while we are at work.

Reality is that survivors might do well with conventional weaponry After the fact, but when they bring us to our knees with microwave transmissions, ain't nothin in our armory's gonna help us, our wives, our kids, and so forth.

America is poisoned from within. Wait a little longer, and well, we know how this tale will end.

Discussion, please.

Well, there is evidence that Jeb Bush has authorized the manufacturing of a "pain gun" in the University of Florida. However, if you want to line your house against EMP/radiation... go ahead, but it won't help you on the outside world... plus, don't wear that crazy tin foil hat around in public... it's a little creepy.

If i could have just 3 guns, they would be (I LOVE HISTORY so this will be older weapons)

1. M1 Garand
2. German Luger
3. The German MP 40 (sorry if this is an automatic)

the problem i have with these threads is that everyone seems to have such a huge quantity of firearms to choose from. it's unfair really. i suggest that those with so much, help out those with so little. i would like to propose the first annual High Road gun redistribution convention. this plan would ensure that each member in good standing of The High Road has an equal number of weapons to choose from when SHTF threads pop up. as self-appointed, lifetime chairman of the convention, i would of course be exempted from all redistributions following the first.

Two points

I thought part of the rationale for the .223 was that the wounded guy is out of the battle and uses up resources. In a SHTF no hospital to take wounded to.
Second, what about a carbine, hand gun pair in the same caliber? .44, .357, .45, 9mm.

since its a hypothetical question

Said it before, And will say it again,

The Easiest way to Survive a SHTF situation is to:

1. Be Prepared. That Means Stock up on Food, Water Any Medications you or a loved one might need. A Firearm Would Definantly be neccesary/ Highly Recomended, but it is Secondary to the above. If the Choice Comes down to your AR-15 or Johnny's Asthma Medication, don't be stupid, take the medicine.

2. Evacuate. This is Critical, if you have time to get out, Get out!! There is no need to "Weather the Storm/Riot/Civil Disturbance," if you have advance warning and the time to get out.

3. Finally, get info!! This is your greatest Weapon after a SHTF Situation. Learn about your city's evacuation plans, learn some basic first aid, learn anything that you might think would be neccesary after a TSHTF, because knowledge is something that can't go bad, or something that someone can take from you.

SHTF GUNS?

You all talk like if the SHTF you are gonna bug out. I feel for ya. I'm out in the high boonies far from any city and 22 miles from the closest "town" of 19,000 people. What will I have with me? Everything I posess in weapons and resources. Small group of locals feel likewise about "foreigners" from town being here during a "state of emergency" so something will probably happen to the bridges on the one and only road into our area. We will maintain civil order and lawfulness in our community until the proper designated authorities regain control. If ever.

If I hear one more of those old, worn out jokes I'm going to find chuck and personally molest him in front of everyone to show what a wuss he is.

they've got anti chuck norris jokes now at websites. They're only moderately funny but still beats the crap out of those old played out and frankly annoying chuck norris facts.
1. Chuck Norris' semen cures cancer. Too bad he has AIDS.

2. Chuck Norris does not sleep. He lies awake in regret.

3. Chuck Norris is currently suing ABC, claiming Hope & Faith are trademarked names for his left and right breasts.

4. The chief export of Chuck Norris is diarrhea.

5. If you can see Chuck Norris, he can see you. If you can't see Chuck Norris, you may not realize how much he's actually aged.

Here Goes:

9mm pistol
.45 pistol
12 gauge
.223

My Reasoning is simple, all of the above are chambered in very common calibers so I should be able to pick up some ammo off anyone I may be force to shoot.

Dammit, me & my pocket bazooka were ready to chime in too! :D
Welcome to THR anyway ;)

In all seriousness, I'd go w/ my:
USP 45, Winchester Defender & my AR ;)

I got bored about half way through this thread, even with all the witty responses,
so I haven't really read it too carefully.

Having said that, I'm applying to be one of Correia's henchmen (resume is in the mail):

I've always wanted to be a Warlord.
Having said that, here's my answer.

If the SHTF, and I'm able to hole up in my fortress,
then the weapons will be:

Rem 870P.
Kahr K9.
Some .22LR (for cat and rat meat from the neighborhood)
A bolt action in 7mm08 or .308 (yet to be determined; still doing research)

If the SHTF and I must travel, and am able to travel by vehicle,
then the weapons would be similar to those listed above.

If the SHTF and I must travel by foot, then the weapons would most likely be that K9, maybe, just maybe the 870P, but only if there are two of us and we can carry lots of food, water filter, raingear, warm sleeping gear (in winter), etc.

But then again, who can say: maybe I'll just take the RPG.

<only kidding, officer; only kidding>

1. 1911 GI model.
2. CZ 83 for polite/concealed work.
3. Henry lever-action .22 (digests any .22 ammo)
4. A very dumb face. This is my most potent weapon.

Probably let everybody else bugout and stay m'self. Then I'd move into the biggest abandoned government office, and order a few pizzas. I'd set up a brewery, hire a few teetotaller security guards (don't want people drinking up the profits, and make millions while all hell breaks loose around me. Also set up a lemon orchard, and corner the black market lemonade racket.

Seriously, when trouble comes, make sure you can make liquor. One of the healthiest men at Andersonville was a Union prisoner who made beer.

Brewers don't have to worry about looters killing them, as long as they keep their recipe secret - after all, beer is thicker than water.

Sounds like a strategy that J.F. Sebastian (Blade Runner) could appreciate.

Seriously, though, I'll take a pizza with extra cheese & anchovies, and a good beer.

Yeah, the extra 10 rounds sounds like an attractive bonus, but it's not too difficult to swap mags on an AK. For those times when you REALLY need a large volume of suppressive fire, quickly, you'd be better served by keeping a 75 round drum in a pouch on your LBV/LCE (the US Army SAW pouch fits a drum quite well), as well as possibly keeping another close by, maybe in your assault pack.

Good points, but...

Tactical schmactical, I put everything in an Eastpack Backpack
I use the 40rd mags as monopods.
I don't have vertical foregrips (on an AK?)
My thumb would fall off after loading the Romanian drum

Besides, the larger phallic symbolism of the RPK mag may be just enough to ward off other competing males...

I picture reality would be like this though:

10 people on THR actually have the arsenal they claim they want to use. The remainder of the country is defended by the Hi-Point 9mm carbine and a bunch of bubbaed SKSes :D
