The Theory of Overpenetration

i have some pics of the crappy wall thing i built and the shoulder but my camera wouldnt work after those pics, but in short terms kodiak beer, would you stand behind a guy being shot with 00 buckshot from a 12 guage, hope not, but you think that a 1 inch and a quarter of material between you and the bad guy is gona stop the pellets?!

No, I wouldn't want to stand behind somebody being shot with 00 buck. Or behind somebody shot with a .45acp, a 9mm, a .40, a 10mm, a .44, a 762x39, a .223, etc, etc.

I think lighter buck makes more sense for home defense - as I said earlier. But, a torso shot with buck at close range is a show stopper and it's my life at stake. The individual 50 grain lead balls from even heavy 00 buck have a lot less kinetic energy and penetration than any handgun round that one would recommend for self defense. And again, when you get into lighter buck loads, your pellets are getting down to 20 grain weights - about half the weight of a .22lr, so you'd be doing your neighbor a favor.

to avoid over penetration just remember size matters; if the perp is 165# or less you pull the .380acp, 166-300# the .45acp over 300# count on you feet to save you'
That .380 you mentioned can get very similar results, regardless of how big the bugger is. Remember, shot placement. A .380 to the brain stem, aorta or heart is gonna spell bad news for any BG. :D
