Think about this? (What Places are Inappropriate for Concealed Carry?)

carried to a funeral yesterday. Probably wasn't necessary but I figure that carrying is like anything else - the one time you REALLY NEED the gun, you won't have it unless you carry it all the time.

Good God, Man - haven't you heard of ZOMBIES!!

Anyway, don't carry by the MRI - they have made guns go off and dragged folks to them by the gun!!

Don't wear Thunderwear to the LapDance?

I refuse to pack inside a restraunt. When I eat, I do not want to feel like I am going to be hijacked. If you cant be at ease in while you eat, why bother going out. If they rob me at Dennys,, they just do. I feel safe in restraunts,, am I the only one who feels like this. Cant imagine having trouble in Red Lobster ? When I have a gun on me, I feel like someone is after me and the weapon makes me safe. But when I dont have it on me, I feel free and hungry.

Snow Skiing ?

That's actually one that I think is a big one. Not sure if too many people carry while skiing - but it is a bad bad idea if people do.

Not sure how many of you have ever seen a "yard sale" on the side of the mountain, but it's not pretty. Having a glock as one of the items you have to go trekkin around the mountain looking for after a bad fall - just isn't a good idea.

Now - i know i know "I always carry in a holster, there's no way i'm going to lose my gun". If you hear yourself saying this, chances are, you've never been skiing, and certain never had one of "those" kinds of falls.

You've never eaten at a Luby's in Texas then... have you?
Good man... you stole my answer.
My pistol is comforting... I dont find it oppressive at all to have it on me.
It goes on when I get dressed and comes off when I go to bed.
And stays on my nightstand.

I still pack while skiing, whether lift-served, cross-country, or backcountry (i.e., carry your skis and hike up a non-commercial mountain).

I frequently wonder why I do it - there aren't a lot of violent tweakers or mtn lions at 10,000ft on the top of a wilderness volcano in the winter. I just always have it with me, like the flashlight and pocketknives.

The other disadvantage of skiing armed is sweating on my Glock, but it seems to take it well. The yard sale concern above is a good observation - fortunately, after close to 800 days on skis, I seldom wreck like that anymore.

I haven't yet been to any weddings in-state (or in a reciprocity state), so I don't carry there. Same with funerals. I probably would.

I guess if I packed something other than a N frame, I would be more comfortable. Eat about two big ole stacks of Flap jacks and some fried tators at cracker barrel and that Big ole Diry Harry starts poking in your gut, It will make you feel like jumping under a bus just to get that cold hard steel wedged out of your kidney and get some relief. I just dont pack when I go eat. I am a big eater and that .44 is just too much for this country to endure when woofing down a quarter pounder with cheese. I may look into getting a .380 Colt and start being more practical. We just dont have much trouble where I am from, I guess we are blessed to say the least. Little domestic Violence here and there but thats about it. Its kinda like Mayberry on Crank. Nice place just faster paced.

The only time it is guarenteed I am unarmed while being awake, if if I am also intoxicated.

I don't wear it around the house or doing yard work, but generally one is within a few seconds of me.

I go to church and my Dad is the Pastor. With all the shootings that have occurred, I can say that carrying would not be innappropriate at our church. David took 5 stones for Goliath. Before Jesus left he said him that hath a sword let him take it.

I don't think it should be an issue at all period. Maybe considered bad fashion to have a shoulder holster showing under your tux just like having the band of your undies showing but other than that, it shouldn't even be a separate issue.

Look at it this way, it should be considered no more innappropriate than: Pepper spray, pocket knife, panic button on your key remote. If your weapon is innappropriate because of it's intended use, then people should freak when they see a lady carrying her keys with one key sticking out between her fingers because that too would be an innappropriate sign of aggression.

Space shuttle - well, the Russians take a shotgun into space. IIRC, John Glenn and the Mercury astronauts took a SW Model 39 ish gun with them.

That's for when you land in an unexpected place. Not Martians.

I carry every where my permit allows. If I can't carry I don't go. unless I must . Post office has mail box outside , I can renew my car lic. by mail and so on.
Should be no need in America to disarm to go in to someplace.

As mentioned, places like an MRI room are inherently dangerous to guns, due to the powerful magnets. There's a good reason not to carry.

I would say inside a prison is a similarly dangerous place, though for different reason. Prisons also fall into the "private property" (or "private purpose, anyway"), and thus the owner/operator can set the rules.

The practical exceptions for pools, showers, etc. also stand, not only due to rust, but also because water in the bore can cause a kaboom.

I guess my answer is any place where the gun is inherently dangerous due to local environmental conditions, or where the property owner says "no."

In Utah, I don't really like that I can't carry at church, but I'll trade that for being allowed to carry in schools, because I spend more time in schools than church.

Every sunday afternoon I go to my mother-in-law's for dinner, and I used to carry and keeo my mouth shut, but neither she nor HER mother, who is also usually there likes guns, so I leave it home.

You've never eaten at a Luby's in Texas then... have you?

That incident really was the catalyst for the concealed carry movement in TX.

I don't carry at work because I'm not allowed. I had to turn away from Grapevine Mills Mall this afternoon because it was properly posted with a 30-06. I won't carry anywhere that could land me in jail. Jail sucks. I carry everywhere else, especially in restaurants.

Just realized, although it's not really a concealed issue, yesterday I helped my dad and friends recover two elk shot the previous day from a canyon in a snowstorm. I was gearing up, with a boning kit, entrenching tool, heavy knife, water, etc, and I had my 1911 in a holster on a belt. At the last minute, I pulled it off and left it in the truck. I came down that canyon on mt butt, sliding and pushing a sled full of quarters. My pockets were full of snow. When I got back to the truck, I thought it was a good thing I hadn't taken the pistol.
