Guns in God's House?

I do not think you are following what I am asking.

No, I understand what you are asking. I simply do not think that your rationale works. If the state defines a house of worship as a specific prohibited place, I can not see how having permission would have any bearing on the strengh of the law, even if you can carry in other private places with permission.

But, this isn't adding anything to the current topic. If you wish to pursue this further, you may wish to post a new topic in L&P.

Personally I don't see any conflict in doing so... churches, temples & synagogues are prime targets for bad guys & possibly terrorists...

Unfortunately, in many States it is illegal... in some States it is legal if the minister/administration doesn't have a problem with it...

I'm Southern Baptist. I thought you were required to carry a gun to church. My preacher always did. :) AND he has a brother in Michigan who is a pastor! May we are talking about the same family.

Sure do... God gave me the right to defend myself and I don't know of any place where he put conditions on how or where I go about doing so..

I carried at my own wedding, and at my sisters. I am inclined to believe that I should be prepared at ALL times.

Are they really "prime targets"? Everyone can come up with a couple dramatic examples of crimes committed or thwarted at places of worship. But how dangerous are they really? Not anecdotes but some sort of good data with a little statistical information. I'd bet dollars to horse apples and hold the stakes in my mouth that they aren't all that dangerous as such things go. That doesn't mean you should or shouldn't carry there. It's just that what "everyone knows" often just isn't so.

I wish I could, but CCW is prohibitted in any place of worship in Mississippi. And the one time I was actually shot at was when I was coming out of church. Some guy thought it was a good idea to shoot into a crowd of church members as we were exiting through the sanctuary doors. Fortunatly, no one was injured.

Another incedent that happened at a church a few miles away from where I go. A girl was leaving her church, when her ex boyfriend walked up to her in the church parking lot, and murdered her with a a 12 guage. I think CCW in places of worship is a good idea.

A side question, for those in states that do not allow ccw in church. If it is ok with the pastor, and since a church is private property, and you can ccw on private property then how can a state make it illegal if you have permission?

The same way "they" can make such laws about private schools, privately-owned bars, etc. I don't necessarily agree with it, but the fact that your property is private doesn't mean govt. won't or shouldn't single it out because it is a certain kind of property.

Do it all the time. I don't get how it's "disrespectful" at all. Worship is a state of heart and mind, not dependent on the presence or absence of any material thing be it a fancy church building or a gun on your belt.

History is full of people, Christians especially, who have been assaulted and accosted for their religious beliefs.

Since this is somewhat topical, it seems to me that most Christians these days are overall "socialists", in that they ascribe to a lot of socialist dogma - public schools, welfare and government healthcare, ban guns, etc. I've noticed that being a "gun owner" in a church doesn't mean you're likely to be a kindred spirit; if it doesn't have t odo with saving aborted babies, there's little that most Church people I've met these days can agree with "Republican" politics.

I wonder where you get your idea of "Christian politics." If you're talking about the world population that calls themselves Christians, then you're only partially right. The "socialist" ideas you throw out seem predominant in "Christendom," but these countries are also likely to permit abortion. But those who oppose such "socialism" are also likely to identify themselves as Christians. If you're talking about Americans who claim Christianity, you're even more wrong. You can always find "Christian" groups on both sides of various issues. Those who want to "save aborted babies" are far less likely to support socialism.

Christians aren't all of one mind. Some of us are small-govt. conservatives, some are left-wing, some are pro-abortion, some are anti, some don't care about politics or guns at all.
