This is so sad it's funny!

oh yeah, but in watching their forums the last week they have mods/admins that quickly ban and delete accounts of those who arent, how do they put it? oh yeah, progressive.

if they get an inkling you are not on their side of the tracks you'll be called a 'freeper', 'repuglican', 'rethuglican', and banned.

also, good intentions not withstanding, posting a link to their forums directly from within THR was illadvised. they can trace users back to where they came from. cutting the link and pasting it into your browser address bar from a different webpage would be better.

For discussion:

Do you think offering to TRAIN these folks would be misguided, or valuable?

My thinking is that a trained warrior takes note of his competence, and is accordingly less fearful, more cognizant of the risks and costs of any proposed course of action, and is therefore more predictable and less likely to do anything irrational.

Flipside, the whole "it will make them one of us" line of thinking may not hold true.

Thoughts?

geekWithA.45 ,

My thoughts?

The kind of people who frequent the democratic underground are better suited (judging by thier posts) for the low road and I personally would be averse to giving advice to individuals who name-call and throw tantrums like spoiled children. Do we really want bitter and vengeful advocates of presidential assassination posting thier hatred of George Bush on these forums? Do we want posters who'll grasp at any straw and endorse ridiculous "tin foil hat" conspiracy theories to explain why thier candidate lost? Who'll encourage others to kill, or at the very least harm, those who disagree with them? Who will accuse dissenters of racism, sexism, and homophobia? Who'll threaten violence and encourage hatred against "repukes" - namely anyone they perceive to be to the right of Mao Tse Tung or Che Guevara? I certainly don't want that kind of company, and I doubt many others will either. We have our liberal members, certainly, but they are reasonable and intelligent individuals who do not engage in that kind of socialist insanity.

"behave over there or they will ban you for being 'disruptive'."

I was banned some time back and can't imagine why. As best I can figure I must have been talking out of the right side of my mouth. Now they're talking about buying guns and joining the NRA. Will wonders never cease.

Liberals celebrate all forms of diversity -- except diversity of opinion. And freedom of speech is something that they reserve for themselves, alone.

These morons never cease to amaze me. They actually think that if we see THEM buying up guns that we'll be so scared that WE will then want to ban guns!?!? They'll never realize that we are not afraid of guns no matter who has them. It's painfully obvious they think all they have to do is buy a bunch of guns and all of a sudden they'll turn into a Navy SEALs who can take on an Army by themselves. These people will no doubt let their newly bought guns sit in a closet somewhere and never train with them, IF they actually do buy them.

Sorry kooks but you've really lost it this time. Go ahead get guns and revolt against us horrible conservatives. I put my training and skills above yours without thinking twice. :neener:

Not all of us DU'rs are nuts

A lot of those guys are nuts. I found this forum thru one of the posts that a THR member made on DU. I guess I'm one of those people who just 'got it' when it comes to gun rights.

Just to let you know, not all of us are what you've been told we were. Just because some guy on the radio or tv says liberals are :cuss: , and liberals are :cuss: over and over and over and over still doesn't make it true. I'm not here to discuss politics, and I'm not here to be some whipping boy for the Bush lovers among you. That's not why I'm here.

I hope to make use of this website to learn more about gun ownership. I just bought my first gun ever (I'm 36). Bought an SKS, crap I know, but I'll feel better having it. I'm looking for a shotgun that I can use for Goose and Duck hunting next. I've always borrowed one from my hunting buddy in the past. I'm hoping my time here will be informative.

Thanks to the THR member who posted the link to this site.

A lot of those guys are nuts.

Kind of hard to defend most of them when you start off admitting that a lot of them are nuts. Contrary to popular belief most of us conservatives don't sit on the edge of our seat listening to Rush Limbaugh or Sean Hannity and believe whatever they say about liberals without looking into it ourselves. I know personally I have read several threads on DU and they sickened me. People were cheering and calling for the death of US Marines who "wanted to die for Bush". Other people wishing al queda would hit the "red" states instead of the "blue" states. I guess it's ok to kill Americans as long as they're conservative? Sorry but that's a bit tough to swallow for me.

As for yourself, if you truly are here to learn about firearms and the like, welcome aboard. Unlike the DU we welcome all and will talk with open minds and have civilized debate instead of banning those who disagree with us. Maybe if you hang out here you're begin to "get it" on other things as well. ;)

Welcome to THR! You will not be a "whipping boy" here. Folks may disagree with you, but they well tell you WHY, not just call you names and then ban you.

As far as the SKS goes, they're good little rifles for the money. welcome to the ranks of the free.

Once again, welcome!

Welcome, Jeff K.

Just to let you know, not all of us are what you've been told we were. Just because some guy on the radio or tv says liberals are , and liberals are over and over and over and over still doesn't make it true.

Fair enough. Just remember that's a blade that swings both ways, and that many of us here have arrived at our conclusions concerning liberals and the left because we've done our homework, and not because we're lobotomized zombies who believe everything we hear on the MSM.

Feel free to read, learn, and ask gun questions, and if you're not interested in discussing politics, that's fine, there's about a dozen other sections of this forum.

Gun question from me: whydja pick an SKS? What attracted you to it?

I posted a reply under the same name I use here. Just told them some truth, that every gun law in this country was passed to prevent minorities or "low class" people from getting guns.

The first gun laws were passed in the South to keep ex-slaves from buying guns. The infamous Sullivan law in NY was passed to prevent Irish immigrants and opposition poll-watchers from being armed. GCA 68 was passed when the lily-white Congress saw all those blacks raising cain about the MLK killing and thought about those black hands with guns in them. The now deceased AWB was sponsored by Feinstein, not because of crime, but because she is terrified of the Mex gangs in Southern CA and LA.

And it has been "liberals" who make sure that minorities can't get guns; it is the "liberals" who are terrified that their "friends" might find out that the "liberals" don't care one whit about them except to get their votes.

I read the thread over there, and no one responded to a logical line of discourse. A few well thought out and expressed posts - which of course doesn't fit their agenda, although I found one response that I shouldn't even copy and paste here because the liberal reponse to anyone advocating personal self defense is to compare it to a preoccuption with male genitalia. There NO getting through to them. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :barf:

They seem to have

some unfounded great fear of these evil thinks we call guns. I was thinking about registering over there, but its probably not worth it as i would be banned it about 5 minutes.
Why do they always compare guns and mens anatomy??? Are they scared of both?

Thanks for the polite welcome.

Price.

I was shopping for a shotgun and got discouraged with the high prices and somehow ended up on a website that had SKS's cheap. I went to a couple local stores and ended up at a place where the guy working there was a lot more helpful and a whole lot nicer than anyplace else I'd been and I bought one.

Just to help erase any skepticism, I used to work in talk radio. I was basically like Colmes is too Hannity. We used to get a lot of calls from guys who would explain their reasons for owning an SKS type gun. I used to think they were wacko. However a few days ago I had what some may call 'a moment of clarity.' It hit me like a ton of bricks, all at once I realised that those callers were right. I immediately started shopping and I ended up with my first gun.

Thanks again for the polite welcome.

I just read that whole thread. First things first:

Welcome to The High Road, Jeff K! Pleased that you're here. I'll restate what was mentioned above: we care about people learning. I'll concur in something I infer from your post: my eyes glaze over in some of the political threads I've read, and I come here because of all of the shooters here who know more than I do about guns.
Bought an SKS, crap I know, but I'll feel better having it.
Many of us don't think they're crap, actually, and you'll find people in the "Rifles" forum who can tell you how to make yours perform at its best. You'll also wade (happily, if you're like I am about it) through a lot of comments along the lines of "I like mine - it's FUN!"

You wrote,
I'm looking for a shotgun (etc.) ... I'm hoping my time here will be informative.
Just wait'll you meet Dave McCracken. :D -and sm, and TrapperReady, and PJR, and HSMITH, and ... can't list 'em all. The rest of the folks who hang out in Shotguns.

Browse all you want, post all you want, and the only rules are pretty simple. From the way you write, I conclude that you're in the habit of treating people decently. You'll fit right in.

Now about that Dem Underground thread: as I mentioned, I just read the whole thing. They're being quite decent over there.

Welcome, glad to have you aboard, enjoy.

As Jeff and many other liberals and Democrats know the second amendment is not a right wing issue, but a right for us all.

cheers, js

Jeff K, welcome to The High Road! :)

Since no one has said it yet, Share what you know, and learn what you don't. :)

I hope you can share the common values we all have with your friends at the DU. The second amendment is there to protect all of us, not just people on the right.

Congrats on the SKS purchase, I'd like one myself one of these days. :)

Am I the only one that was suprised at the number of gun owners on the DU? I don't know if it's just me, but why do they think that us conservatives will be worked up by gay people buying guns? It's their right to do so and I'd have to say that I welcome anyone that wants to join the gun community. That thread might have a lot of wacko stuff on it, but I see an opportunity to convert some of these left wing nutcases.

Somehow it figures that the gay Dems on DU have never even heard of the Pink Pistols, the largest gay self-defense group. We've used the excellent PP instructors in National Shooting Sports Foundation media seminars (once jerking the rug out from under a very biased NYT reporter!). I love their slogan: PICK ON SOMEBODY YOUR OWN CALIBER!

Plus, there's an interesting upside we noticed in the media seminars...teach an anti-gun person to shoot, and sometimes strange things start happening in their heads. They start thinking about empowerment, control and individual responsibility in whole different terms. Sometimes--not *every* time, but often enough--the act of learning to deal with a firearm shows them more about who we are than *anything* we could say.

So I say to all those gay members of DU, by all means, buy guns! Go to Gunsite or Thunder Ranch or the Firearms Academy of Seattle or Valhalla or even the Pink Pistols and learn to use those guns, laughing all the while about us no-teeth, grit-eatin', sister-marrying neo-con peckerwoods stupid enough to dig our own graves. Then, when they wake up one morning and discover that, maybe for the first time in their lives, they're not *living in fear,* have 'em give me a call!

mb

I loved how the first dozen or so postings were about how they can hold a fund raiser to pay for the guns because guns are "expensive." Sheesh, is there anything that Democrats DON'T want somebody else to pay for?

I can't believe nobody told them that they will be 27 gagillion times more likely to kill some gay, female, transgendered, minority, foreign-born person than a criminal if they have a gun in their home. :D
