One simple method that can be tried to help clean up a trigger is to pull the trigger while applying firm, constant pressure on the hammer. Doing that a number of times can help to remove the sharp edge and burrs from the sear.
Applying a slick moly paste like Venturi Metal-to-Metal can also help:

Simply breaking in the trigger over time with use can also work. Applying pressure to the hammer while pulling the trigger is suppose to help speed up that process.

Thanks articap.

Currently one can actuall see the hammer rock back a bit before release so I am thinking I may have to do some actual stoning.

SO far I have not had it appart other than dropping the cylinder a few times to see which way works best for me. I do like the fact that the safety notches actually work and seem fairly secure. I had concerns after my experience with the just for show not for go safety notches on lil'bro spur trigger 1863 Pocket. My next concern is how "crowded" the nipples look and I am wondering if my inline capper can reach in there. I am considering just going ahead and buying one of the replacement packs for the entire trigger mech and hammer in case I bugger things up. Mayhaps an extra cylinder might be in next months play money as well.

But first I have to get through the weekend and shoot what I have as it is and get some pictures up.

BTW has anyone done a Roll call since Shoot the Moon did last year? THose ROA boys seem to do one every other week!

I drove to Pennsylvania Friday night. Saturday afternoon I stopped at Dixon's Muzzleloading Shop in Kempton and found that they had a pair of 5.5-inch Uberti Remingtons. I handled them both and picked the one I liked better. I also bought some Laurel Mountain Forge "American Walnut" stain there. So now I am stripping the grips in preparation for the stain and then some Danish oil. I am also going to rub the steel with an extra fine Scotch-Brite pad, to simulate holster wear. No vinegar bath for this one. :D

So, are we gonna get a membership number like the other clubs?

Doubtful, unless you or someone else wants to update the membership list. Looks like Shoot_The_Moon is MIA since April of last year. His last membership roll call was post #355 on April 8, 2011:

Even though the 5 1/2" BBL is a modern customization, I think it's the BEST thing anyone has done to the '58! Several makers offer the option and it makes the revolver handle ideally!
The shorter barrel dosen't detract from the power of thr revolver and the little loss of sight raduis is not noticable.
I'm sold on the shortr bbl!

Stupid early Tropical Storm!

Well maybe tomorrow. Assuming aliens don't show up and steal the camera and or computor tonight I will get a picture up manyana!!!!!!

I have worked the action a few hundred times and it is a bit smoother, but the hammer still has to rock back to over come a lump some where.

Horse show was OK and spousal unit is happy. Horse took a Blue ribbon for Dun Factor and got a point her first. Yesterday I found out she does not like the sound of me cocking and lowering an 1858 Remmie hammer in the barn. Can't wait to see what she thinks of the earth shattering ka-boom.

I believe that Remington offered their Belt Model Pistol (a smaller version of the New Model Navy .36) in 5.5- and 6.5-inch barrel lengths. I also think they made both single and double action versions.

OK I made it as small as I could, no doubt too small with my luck.

Ah too much flash and direct lighting. I must try some other light sources. It was heavily over cast and I was under the roof of the barn so I tried using the onboard flash.

In other news I stripped it all the way down and went after the hammer and trigger with a stone and after the edges of the port in the trigger guard for the trigger with an emory board (actually the one on a Leatherman tool). Now the pull is SMOOTH and the trigger guard does not bite.

I hope to finally get it dirty tomorrow after some mowing.
