First new handgun in a while and im pretty excited:D I picked up a M&P9c today and just finished cleaning and oiling it. I wanted a small nine and naturally I looked into a glock 26 to go with my 19 (which i love) but i hated it. Baby glocks just arent for me i guess. Anyway, any M&P owners have any pointers for this first timer? Anything to watch out for? Also, whats the typical break in for these?

thanks again,
cc

Anything to watch out for?

Yeah. Watch out for a good deal on a full sized model. You'll likely want one of those pretty soon.

I had an M&P9c for a while. Loved that gun. I seriously regret selling it. I'm just glad it's not an uncommon gun. When funds allow, i will own another.
I never experienced a failure with it, so I never really had a "break in period."

The only thing I can think to watch out for, is that you should assess the grip insert that you want to use while you are actually shooting the gun, not just handling it. When I first got my M&P and was just holding it, I thought I would want the large size. Turns out that when actually shooting, I shot better with the medium and it was more comfortable.

My M&P .40c is my carry gun, and I'm very happy with it. I'm always amazed at how well I shoot it, not that I can't shoot any of my other handguns as well, but for it's short 3.5" barrel, I shoot it as well or better than some of my full size pistols. About the only pistol I can shoot a better group with is my full size 1911 Kimber TRL custom II. Also between the M&P and my 9mm Sig P226 is about an even toss-up. LM

9pro and 40c- like them both.. been putting off a full size 40 or 45 because I just like shooting 1911s so much.. but today i fondled a full size 40 with night sights and a crimson trace.. I do not NEED it but I WANT it.. still trying to justify...

Just got an M&P9c myself. Roughly 300 rounds in two range sessions so far with zero malfunctions. My teenage daughter and I sharing trigger time with it. Each time out 100 FMJ (WWB 115gr) and about 50 124 gr +P JHP (Speer Gold Dot). My last 3 mags fired tonight at not quite 10 yards, all Gold Dots, could be covered by a coffee can lid except for two fliers at about 6" and 7" away from the center of the group. This is "our" first polymer pistol being mainly S+W "3rd gen" fans as well as BHP, 1911 and k-frame six-shooters. I like it way more than I thought I would. I don't want to turn into one of those polymer gun-living guys, but I'm already fighting hard to resist a full-size 9mm with 5" barrel +/or a 45c.

Good for you!

I can't help but think I'm gonna regret not getting an M&P and a matching S&W AR to go with it.

I've got a Colt & Colt in rifle/handgun and keep watching for a M&P at the right price.

I'm on my 4th M&P:(2) 40cs, (1) 9Pro Series, and now (1) mid-sized .45.

Sold the .40s and the 9 Pro. The 9 Pro just plain sucked compared to my Glock 9mms, and the .40s were actually so good, they were boring.

Recommendations: Apex Sear investigations and look at Burwell's site for custom upgrades.

Enjoy!

I've got a M&P45c. I love it. I've put three different brands of ammo though it from cheap to my sd loads and feeds everything! As for breaking it in, a day at the range will take care of that. Took me about 100 rounds to smooth out the trigger.
And yes as noted above swap the grips out as you shoot. I started with the medium size then went to the small shot with more control. Medium was good but the small was better.
You will love that gun more than. Your glock. I know I do

Thanks for the input guys.. As far as holsters go, im leaning towards the N82 tactical but are there any other IWB holsters i should look at?

My father loves his AKJ concealco holster for his M&P.

I'm not a fan of IWB holsters myself (just a personal preference), but I do have a Concealco for another gun and it's a darn nice holster, especially for the price.
I find leather to be more comfortable than Kydex, BTW.

Congrats. Had my 9c for quite sometime now, no malfunctions, eats everything and for me there was no break-in period. Many complaints about the trigger, but I never had a problem. Perhaps because I've shot DA revolvers for so many years. Saving for a 45c and then we'll see which one I want to carry all the time. Good luck.

As stated, no break in time for mine. Several hundred rounds, no issues. The finish is wearing off the feed ramp, maybe that is break in? Good gun, very accurate.

A lot louder than I expected, and using the cheap Monarch ammo, I get some nice fireballs. I don't see that as a bad thing. :)

I love my 9c......I believe a m&p 40 full size is in my future.

With my 9c I've had zero issues. I just received my 17 round m&p mag and xgrip last weekend. Feels like a different gun, hope to shoot it some this weekend to test it.

Well i just got back from my first range session with it and put about 250 rounds through it. No ftf, fte, etc. It performed flawlessly, however i lost my dang front sight!! Apparently its fairly common but still pretty annoying after spending that kind of coin on a gun. My question is what to do now? Should i fix it myself with the paint & toothpick trick? Let the Smith warranty take care of it? Or take it back to the shop I got it from?

I would take it to the shop. If they won't fix it, then send it back home. That is not excusable to lose a sight! Would also email S&W, explain what happened, and see what they say.

I have an XD45 with a thumb safty, and the dang red dot fell off (both sides) I just took some rubbing alcohol to clean the empty hole, then using the tip of a needle dip it into some testors modeling paint, so I had a nice little bead on it, and simply touched it in the round hole. Worked perfect, no one would ever know. You might try this with the front sight, using a gloss white paint. If your not happy with the results, you can always send it in later. Thats what I'd do, but thats just me. LM

Are you saying the front site fell off or just that the dot of paint popped out of it? If it's just the paint I'd re-paint and move on. I wouldn't want to be without the gun for days or weeks just to have them do the same thing. I would call and let them know about it, though. They may throw you a hat or a coupon for your trouble but more importantly they would probably want to know about any issues with their guns whether those issues are big or small.

I replaced front and back on my .40 Full sized one with fresh Trijicon, hasn't moved one bit.

It was my EDC till the new Blackhawk, Still is for days when I have to roll around and get dirty.
