Uberti El Patron 45 Colt range report

These were 250 grain HSM cowboy loads. I will be hand loading for this gun so the filing must wait until I settle on a load.
The cowboy loads feel pretty weak.

I have been looking at the data in both my Hornady and Lyman manuals and also the data from Lee that came with my dies. There is ALOT of difference between the 3 even between the same powders and similar bullets of the same weight.
Just wondering if anyone here has got a wonder load I could try.

A load I got from a Brian Pearce article in Reloader is 8.1 gr Power Pistol with your 250 gr bullet, assuming we're referring to lead. That is a level supposedly suitable for a gun like yours. It works in my Uberti El Patron. I don't favor shooting too serious a load in cowboy guns though. The range of Trailboss works well for me.

I have some Bullseye in stock so I might try that with the Lee data I have.
I will only be using lead bullets.

Definitely not looking to hot rod anything.

Trailboss might be on the menu also.
Unique looks like a good option in the manuals I have too.

@Armored farmer thanks. I've been casting RBs for my front stuffers for years. I do it over the campfire coals like the old days. I really enjoy it. Talk about therapeutic!
Maybe it's time to try it for some centerfires.

Oh yeah. I totally get that.
I usually take a crappy winter day or three and get the woodstove fired up good. Exhaust fan running. Windows cracked. Lee bottom pour plugged in......
I try to cast a years worth of bullets. It's fun estimating how many of each of my calibers.
Coffee pot on the woodstove, maybe a pot of homemade stew.
Not too bad of a weekend imho.

I think I posted this load in that 6 page argument you started over which revolver to buy :D, but here it is again.

I cast all my own bullets but got some HiTek coated 250 gr. RNFP's from Missouri Bullet in on a trade. They shot really well over 6.5 grs. of Red Dot, a load I got out of the Lyman 49th manual.

I also use this load with the original 250 gr. .45 Colt bullet from a Lyman 454190 mould. In fact I shot a couple dozen of them in my USFA today after work and the brass falls from the chambers under its own weight.

That was a pretty good discussion. I got a lot out of it. For example, only a Glock is worth using cause a six shot revolver stopped being useful sometime around 1990 I guess. Or something like that.

At least some of you guys still get it. Thanks.
ETA. I do like that Frisco.

I stopped by a small local ammo and components shop today. He only had 200 gn in stock but found a half box, approx 250 of some 230 gn RNFP. So he sold those 230s to me for 15.00. And he had plenty of Unique in stock so I grabbed a pound of that too.
So now I'm all set to load up some 230s. I plan to order a Lee 255 mould and probably pick up some 250 RNFP if I can find them this weekend.

I’m sold on Trailboss for 45 Colt now. Between it and 3F don’t need much else. Hunters will want more FPS but for just plain range fun they suffice.

That holster seems to almost disappear against that pile of bullets. Eye tricks. :)
