Also, I'm disgusted with MA people. 90% of people I talked to about this believe it's a scam, upon which I roll my eyes and explain to them for the nth time that it isn't.

With so many people never sparing even $50, it's no wonder that people aren't as friendly/close/caring anymore. Humans emerged as a gift soceity, people. That's one reason you get the warm fuzzies from giving and receiving gifts...

But anyway, I needed to rant here. Sorry for the slightly OT nature of the post.

Response to Third_Rail

As is the nature of people, the glass is half full or half empty.

All I can say is that I am and will be forever grateful for the people here that have helped out in a time of need....most with the response that someone at sometime helped them and that instead of paying back the money they sent....to "pay it forward" when the opportunity arrises for us to help someone else in need.

And....just to be blunt....to anyone that might wonder still.....THIS IS NOT A SCAM TO COLLECT MONEY!!!!!!!

Bear was quite upset, as I stated earlier, that I had come into his domain...which he did ask me to enter in order to explain his abscence.... and to share with you his "life story" as he does not share his personal life with others easily and is choosey about who he shares with. This being an open forum for all to read who wish.....he was not too happy about it...with addresses and personal information being shared. That being said.....he was then upset with me that I had asked for monetary help openly here. Like I said he has been moved beyond shock at the response....but still was not happy at my actions.

So, Third_Rail, there are people that are sceptics everyone, but thank God there are also some caring and generous people to weigh them out. I will never wake another morning of my life without the knowledge that complete strangers came forward to help in a time of crisis. For that I love you all.

With many thanks again,

Lady45

"That being said.....he was then upset with me that I had asked for monetary help openly here."

That's normal. Tell him to hush and be nice or we're going to have to send somebody by to 'talk' to him. :)

Check your paypal account - I don't want paypal to end up with the money.

John

P.S. - I don't know who I dislike more, paypal or the P.O. monopoly.

Response to JohnBT

Okay ....I have a question John.....

If the people at the PO lose it......they go "postal"...........

What do we call it when the people at PayPal lost it???????

Quandry of the day!

Just Wondering

Do you think it is a good sign when the nurse at the care facility asks when you will be returning?......as the "Bear" is a lot less "grizzly" when you are around? Should I take that as a compliment?

Food for thought!

Give BluesBear a call!

I just had a nice 45-minute conversation with BluesBear.

He is amazed and very appreciative of the outpouring of support from the folks here.

He said that while he loves the cards and letters, he is going a little nuts from sitting alone nearly all day, surrounded by out-of-it old people.

What he really likes, folks, are phone calls. Just plain old conversational interaction.

He's a great guy, and very interesting to talk to. Give him a call.

(206) 624-3690

He is on the west coast, on Pacific time, and welcomes calls from about 10 am until midnight. (from 1-3 he's in physical therapy).

He says if there's no answer, wait five minutes and call again -- he's probably in the john or getting some water.

Matt

I will have to call him again. We cured all world problems and such last time, probably need to fix anything that has cropped up since or last phone visit.

I haven't seen any postings about my suggestions I gave him for passing the time.

Lady45 - does he not have Pineapple Juice available ? He needs Pineapple juice .;)

Okay [ looks boths ways - hush tones] What you do is, when the nurse comes in for a urine sample and leaves the jar and will be returning later...wash out the jar real good. Fill with Pineapple juice. The Nurse will say " My goodness- a bit cloudy" . Blues then grabs the "urine sample" and exclaims " by golly you're right- lets run it back through!" at this point Blues downs the Pineapple juice. Nurses usually lose it at this point ( or faints) and Blues get a big laugh :D

Pineapple Juice

Okay sm......I have to ask a couple questions here.

First.......are you sure you are not related to Bear? The pineapple juice story sounds like something he would do!

Second, have you told him about this? If not, maybe you should when you call him next....he would either die laughing....or possibly do it and get back with a response. .....either way it is a good result!!!

Third....just for the record.....he LOVES pineapple juice.

Sooooo now that that is out of the way......update....we are waiting for the good old paperwork process to be finished with an answer. So, if we get a positive response we will be moving right away.....and then I have to get him home and worry that the government will come thru in a timely manner for payment of rent for September!!!! It is always something!!!

Love you all!

Lets just say Bear and I had a great visit. :D

Yes I informed him of the Pineapple juice - he may have been preoccupied with the turkey baster about that time though. Maybe he was laughing so hard he needed to baste....I dunno...don't wanna know. :D

Once again I have an offer of a place to stay; This time in WA. I need to check my Map , I got CO, UT , AZ covered for sure, . Humm, not sure the best route from AR to WA...I better make some more friends "going that direction". :D

Normally I make my trips straight through ....I might have to make some exceptions - huh?. I can go ~20 hrs ...then I play out. I get to make a fast trip from central AR to the other side of Knoxville stay about 2 hrs turn around and head back. "Somewhere" there is sneaky toll booth on streatch of road...done been snuck up once ....nosediving in to toss a dime ....then they have another jsut down the road... I sure hope that Contruction around Nashville is better...the cops still using Expeditions? :p I did this going to Houston not long ago...gee 59 is still dark in the wee hrs...

So yeah...one never knows where I may headin' off too. Chris in PA is keeping a porch light on. Tuner In NC doing the same...Bear said he would.

My experiences have been and I can provide references...err... real good time is had by all. :p I spoil kids, I have the ladies get impressed a Southern Boy actually knows what a chair is and holds the chair as they are seated. I open doors and stuff too. I even know which one is the salad fork and. I'll have you know I can even distinguish the lemon fork from the olive fork. [ impressed huh?] I'd just as soon eat ribs with my fingers and not have to clean up any utensils tho'. :p

I accomplish this cold sober btw.

I do know he is most appreciative of everyone whom has had anything to do with this whole situation...

This includes Lady45

Porch Light On

Dear sm..........for those that don't know....I think maybe I should explain the "turkey baster" before Ron Popeil (however you spell it) of Ronco.....tries to package and sell it along with the knives and rotisourrie!

The body cast that Bear is in is called a "turtle shell". It is a front and back half that is made of molded fiberglass that is held together with velcro. He is a "big" chested man and it has to be snug in order to do its job.....and with the heat wave we have been having....and no air conditioning in the nursing home.....he calls it his "turkey baster". NO it is not anything kinky!

And.....sm.....you are more than welcome at our house anytime you are in the area......that goes for anyone else here that wishes to see the "real Bear". I am a "GRITS" = girl raised in the south......so I will be right at home at you grabbing the chair and opening the door......and I make a wicked batch of ribs BTW......along with homemade potato salad, baked beans, corn on the cob....and either lemon meringue pie or homemade banana pudding for dessert.....or we could always cut up a cold watermelon depending on the time of year you visit. And if that does not turn your mouth to watering.....we can always grill a steak on the BBQ!!!

But.....sm......when ya come to visit and look for the porch light.......just make sure it is the porch and not the "bug zapper in the garden"!!!!!

Did I make ya spit out the mouth full of pineapple juice???? :D :neener:

Tell ya what gal .... you's gonna be inundated with that sorta menu ....

Steve .... I am right behind ya dude ... in the queue!:D

Anybody got a great tip for getting tea off a monitor? :D

Blues - my friend , you gotta hurry up on this healing dealie...I mean A Southern gal knows how to make real meringue, and they use 'nilla wafers in the 'nanner pudding...

Okay I need more friends for the road trip ....Oh that fella riding shotgun - the one that talks funny - that's Chris, he ain't from the South. :D

Hey ...bug zappers are cool, your supposed to go out back , have coffee and watch the zapping going on...beats whats on TV .

Humm lets see , as the crow flies it is 12 inches, 1" = 150 mi. Okay - granted I can't go in a straight line, and there probably is a mountain or somesuch to allow for,

Wholly Cow!

I'm sorry to learn of my friend Blues Bears terrible condition. I've
been away from THR for about the last month due to a complete
computer crash, and last evening was my first time back on-line
since then. Please provide a physical address as to where I can
send him a get well card? Often times, it seems as though bad
things happen to good people; and Blues certainly is one of the
best!

Respectfully,
Ala Dan, N.R.A. Life Member

In the Doghouse with the Bear again :(

Okay......now I did it again....he must be feeling better or all those drugs he is taking is making him "grizzly" !

Our porch light is always on....and something good is always on the stove....( I have a 16 yr old son and a Bear to feed!). But....I confess...I have to give credit where credit is due.....after all he does clean my guns after I go to the range.....and even exchange for cooking and dishes I thought!.....but to the point here.......

BEAR is the barbeque KING.....ribs.....or shredded.....he used to cook 50+ pounds and take to sell sammiches at the gun shows back in KY.....soooo I let him think his is the best.....and take charge of the barbegue......but...
he can't hold a candle to my meringue or from scratch nanner puddin' wif
nilla wafers.....also wif meringue on top......no instant pudding stuff....I mean from SCRATCH....eggs and sugar and cream....mmmmm mmmmmmm!

So....now....we are taking reservations.....better get your weekend scheduled before they are all full up at the "BEAR INN" !!!! :neener:

He says I cannot steal his glory anymore....and that when he gets back online....I have to quit posting......now do you think that is fair????

 :D :p

Answer to question asked.....

Recently someone asked me if I actually owned a gun. Soooo for those who wanted to know.....yes I have a permit.....and I have a Taurus 44mag and a Rossi Coach gun 20 g. and am getting a 45 auto soon since Bear let me try his and I fell in love with an auto and won't give it back!!!

I go to the range regularly with my son and Bear.....at least we did until his accident. I have tried all kinds of calibers and will continue to. I enjoy shooting and Bear says "I am a natural". Guess all those archery lessons in school helped do something after all!

So there ya go for those that wanted to know!:D

Clarification

Okay.....after reading my post.....I think I should explain "soon" on my next gun purchase......soon ...as in.....the next one I buy.....looks like might be awhile......did not want any of you kind people think that I was gonna use money you donated to purchase a firearm......just not true....but it does not mean I don't want one!

Maybe Santa will bring me one if I am a good girl?:D

Matt Payne, thanks for posting that phone number. I just spent about an hour and a half talking with BluesBear on the phone (they were bring him his med's when we got off the line). He really appreciates the phone calls, since the only people he sees are pretty much literally braindead.

Lady45, what you're doing for him is incredible. I just hope that, if any of the rest of us were to suffer a catasrophe like this, there'd be a friend like you to help.

I just read this thread. I had missed the other one as I don't read the Roundtable section.

Give BluesBear my best and tell him to get well soon.

Sorry I can't help financially, I'm unemployed and my wife will be going in for a breast biopsy in 10 days. So things here are not solvent enough for me to be able to help.

Keep your chin up Bear, and keep fighting.

Joe

Thanks....and ....more Thanks

I just don't know what to say.......we are almost there.....it looks as though maybe it just might happen before Labor Day if all comes thru financially and paperwork wise. Bear has a birthday at the end of the month....and I sure would like to have him out of the nursing home and able to be at home for his birthday.

Thanks cannot express how much we appreciate all you guys have done to help.

Take care and God Bless you all!

I had a nice chat with the Bear Saturday. By all means, give the lad a call - 206- 624-3690, he really appreciates the company. Lady 45 can olny get up htere a couple times aweek, and otherwise there isn't anyone to talk to. He seems to be making pretty good progress, though he's in a lot of pain, he's being a good boy and doing his therapy.

Lady45, have you gotten the envelope I sent? I just get paranoid that things get lost in the mail.

Hope to hear another update soon! :)
