Would not have beleived the stoner without the pic.

Staged pic? maybe.. why does that soldier need 3 pens on his body armor?

Wait are those BIC pens? OMG he's got a Russian rifle and an Italian pistol and a French pen!

While I have no military experiance, I think that might be a valid stance. If you see an enemy out in the distance, drop the pistol and let into him. If one happens to charge over the trench, forget the long gun and shoot the pistol.

Again, I don't know a great deal about combat...

Did anyone see the Al-Jazeera footage of a Feyadeen soldier holding a SA80?

They have enough problems as is without equipping themselves with THAT rifle...

Carrying an AK in a situation like that is a liability.
Apparently, some of the crews of our nations fighting vehicles think otherwise.

I know I just posted this elsewhere, but it fits here too...

The M4 is apparently in short supply with some units, short enough that some of the Armoured vehicle crews are only armed with pistols (outside of the "big guns" on the vehicles themselves of course)!

Here's an excerpt from one of the members of the Fort Benning Rifle and Pistol Club, sent to all members by the Range Master "Jim:

"They have taken to using captured AK-47's as crew protection weapons on tanks and Bradleys.
Guys were literally shooting enemy with 9mm from turrets in the dust storm."

Those are army issue transparency markers for map boards in his vest. I would bet he is a tanker and that might also explain the ak as they usually do not have long arms. Company comanders and up usually don't have long arms. He looks to young to be a 1st sgt. Also specialty people don't usually have long guns but from the combination of the Combat Vehicle Crewmans armor the sidearm and the map board markers he is probally a tanker.

So is going into combat armed only with an M-9.

If those are your options and your "actually seeing combat" YOUR RIGHT!!

Its too hard trying to figure out who's who in combat situations, but I could identify the enemy quicker by the sound, and looks, of their rifle before I could tell which shade of camo they were wearing.

Shoot the guy with the AK.

I agree with ajacobs. Looks like a leaders recon.

What's the guy behind him carrying? Can't tell on my screen.

FWIW, the 24th did the same thing with their Bradley drivers and tank crews in GWI.
