Building a dedicated varnint/ coyote AR style rifle now. Mostly parts I've bought cheap over the years with a white oak 20 inch predator upper in a Gen 2 aero lower. I wanted to see what others put together. List trigger/bipod etc brands too

Didn't see another thread on it.

Here's my 223 Wylde DMR. LaRue MBT trigger, Areo Precision lower and upper recievers, tool craft NiB BCG, Midwest Industries suppressor compatible mlok handguard due to the gas block being a Superlative Arms .936 adjustable, 24in Ballistic Advantage barrel. Burris mount and Vortex Viper HS scope. Fulton Armory A2 stock kit and 20rd USGI mag. KAC BUIS, that I'm debating putting on my 308 AR. Also, LaRue APEG grip and lower parts kit.

My varmint/coyote gun, though in all honest I have only missed one coyote but killed a heap of armadillos. I have not had any luck calling coyotes in the day and night hunting is not allowed in TN.
index.php

9-inch 300 BO (AAC barrel), AAC SDN-6 suppressor, Bushmaster Upper, Remington Defense lower, AAC Square Drop handguard (Keymod compatible), SBA-3 Pistol Brace (for now), Magpul MOE+ grip, DPMS or Bushmaster BCG (I don't remember), DPMS two-stage trigger, Vortex Spitfire 3x prism scope. Ammo: 220gr Maker Rex bullet fed with D&H 20 rd 300 BO specific magazine (I like the 300BO lancer 20rd magazine too).

16" full heavy profile 1:9 DPMS barrel, Larue trigger, Gemtec HALO can, 4x ACOG. The ACOG is NV compatible. I can put a Harris bipod on a QD mount on the lower rail if I want to, but I normally use a bog-pod from the seated position. This setup will produce 1" groups at 100 yards, and is more than capable of hitting a 6" plate at 300, day or night. Ammo of choice is Hornady 75 grain BTHP match. Has been used successfully on deer, turkeys, hogs, and coyote.

I've used a plain old 16 inch Olympic i bought when the awb ban died for 20 years when I wanted to use an AR. I normally use a cz 17 hmr, a savage 12fv 223 or an old Remington 220 swift bolt gun though. The Olympic is an old Non- chrome lined barrel, been a good rifle for a gun everyone hated on. Even back in 04.

My new one is going to use a white oak 1:12 20 inch upper. A viridian serac scope that was cheap, a psa match trigger I have in a drawer and most likely a "fab defense" stock that has a hole for a magazine in the stock. I figure a 10 or 20 rd mag in the stock might help balance the heavy muzzle..... and I have it in a drawer. Never used. None of it has ever been used. I'm debating on the bipod though. I may have to actually buy that at retail for my build. I'm looking at those bipod that mount to the mlock handguard on either side rather than on the bottom. Just because I've never used that style. I don't want to make it 20 lb but I'm also not walking far with it so ultra light isn't my concern.

IMG_20230317_095956316.jpg Anderson lower, national match 2-stage trigger (although I'm using it elsewhere at the moment) , BCA 24" 5.56 upper (the other one is an equally accurate 6.8spc), 6x24x50 "generic" scope, 77gr perfect hand loads (IMHO... Lol), Caldwell rest... Budget friendly set-up that at 200 yards prints .75" groups... Then I set my cell up to block all but one number... That number has a coyote call as it's ringtone... Attach a Bluetooth speaker... Set it out in my FILs field 200 yards away... Call as needed... Works like a champ... Yes I'm from southwest Georgia... Go ahead and laugh... I look in the mirror every day... And laugh too... Lol... As a footnote... I'm not very good at posting media either...

Mine's still a work in progress, so I've got left to grab is a muzzle brake to get it up and shooting.

My Mk12 Mod0 knock off:
full&d=1679064901.jpg

Upper is:
PSA upper, BCG, and 18" gov't profile barrel. Cheap carbon fiber handguard, weaver riser, vortex rings, Leopold VX-FREEDOM 4-12x Tri-MOA.

Lower is an Anderson "Poverty Pony" with a LaRue MBT-2, and CMMG LPK.

I might switch back to an A2 stock, I haven't quite decided yet. I've been on a GWOT kick lately with my ARs.

Here's one I put together a couple years ago:

Parts list: Upper

Aero M4E Stripped Upper
WOA (White Oak Armament) 18" Fluted SPR barrel (So far this barrel is holding 3/4 MOA with thrown charges and PMC "pick-up brass")
SLR Titanium Sentry AGB
SLR Helix 13.7" FF (my 3rd Helix, so I'm sort of sold)
WOA BCG, bolt matched to barrel
Griffin Armament 4SD Flash-Comp
Radian Raptor "light" charging handle
ADM Recon Mount
Vortex 4-16x50 PST (Gen 1)

Lower:

Aero M4E Stripped Lower
Magpul UBR-2 Stock with storage removed. ( a little heavy, but SOLID and balance the 18" tube nicely.
Geissele SD-E trigger
BCM standard weight carbine buffer & spring
Magpul MOE Grip
Seekins Ambi safety
Aero Lower parts kit

It wears a Magpul Bi-Pod, but also has an ARCA plate in front of the magwell for shooting off my tripod.

3rds at 307 (I stopped when the 3rd round shot the bolt head off):

I've got another AR 15 that I put together as a lightweight "calling" rifle:
Larue Predate AR 16" barrel
Geiselle SSA-E trigger
Midwest industries 13" rail
Leupold MK3HD 3-9x40
ADM Recon Mount
Aero upper and Lower
Magpul furniture

I built this around an 18" Wilson Combat barrel.
Almost have it sorted out, will be swapping out the handguard for a 15" arca rail.
I have a Centurion Arms two stage in it which is a great trigger but have been looking to swap that out for a Hiperfire single stage.
Upgrading from a Bog tripod to a ball head arca clamp as the Bog is a bit jittery.
2.5-10x42 scope is more than sufficient for 600 yd shots.

Aero M4E1 Upper + Aero Lower + Aero SPK + Aero Buffer Tube
Slash Heavy Buffer (6.5 Oz)
Magpul ACS
Geissele SSA-E
Toolcraft NiB BCG
Aero Breach Charging Handle
Wilson Combat SS 223 Wylde 20" Crowned Barrel with WC Gas Block, Tube, and 15" Handguard
PA OPMOD 4-14x44mm ACSS HUD/DMR 5.56 NATO (That's a long name!)

The scope is OK. ACSS reticle is great for its intended purpose, but the glass is pretty much useless from dusk till dawn. I will eventually replace it...

Test fitting my scope and Burris rings to my upper. Still haven't put my gen 2 aero lower together with my trigger so I mounted the stock and upper to an old Olympic lower (how many of you remember seeing that olympic emblem....)

Not crazy about where the rings land on the scope. Id prefer them be farther apart but don't like my ring to be on the handguard. It will do

Left to right.
Falkor Defense Omega in 6.5 Creedmoor with a Vortex Razor Gen II and Thunderbeast Ultra 9. Stupid heavy, but also stupid accurate.

6.5 Grendel built on a Seekins Precision upper and lower. Barrel is a Dracos 18”. Glass is a Bushnell Forge. CMC flat trigger and Thunderbeast Ultra 7 suppressor.

Armalite M15A4 in 5.56. Completely stock. Vortex Viper 1-4 and Specwar suppressor.

JP Enterprises 18” 5.56 upper on RJF lower. Vortex Strike Eagle 1-6 pictured, but occasionally sports a Pulsar Trail 2 thermal scope. 082E3D8C-D6E2-4634-9AFB-6893DD090E7D.jpeg

If you do not like the rings on the handguard, get a rail extender in 10 or 20 MOA, and the scope will fit just right. It will also help with eye relief. I use them on all/most of my AR things. Or get a 20 MOA scope mount from Midwest Industries. Those are the best.

Got my gen 2 aero, bipod and trigger all together and shot 50 or so rounds. Shot some 55 GR 855 and some 55 GR vmax loaded with 25.5 gr varget that I had for my bolt actions. Shot under an inch @100 with the vmax on a windy day fed from a 10 rd mag. Never failed to cycle. Will load up my 40 GR vmax and see how they cycle. And some speer TNT 50 and match 52 HPs. See how my 1:12 does.

Forgot to add my new build here, hope to take some varmints this year. I seen some 75 speer hp for $15-100 be nice if they shoot ok, there really all I need for varmints

My main prairie dog rifle is an AR-15 chambered in 204 Ruger with a 26” side pull heavy barrel. Nothing special about the stock or fore end. I like Giselle (spelling?) triggers.

The side pull action was an experiment and not necessary.

Back up rifles are similar the the 26” version above but with a standard action and a 24”’barrel. I also have a Savage 12FCV 204 Ruger bolt rifle for additional backup.

With the 204 Ruger AR”s, I use 10 round magazines loaded light. Helps me shoot a bit slower.

retired this RRA coyote carbine last year. Stripped the glass off and now she sits, future unknown.

right side.jpg

The expected replacement..waiting for load development and fine tuning. Palmetto premium CHF 18" barreled upper on a no-name lower with a Palmetto EPT trigger. I wanted to go back to a fixed stock for a bit, and a rail allows better options for a bipod than the RRA. A bit heavier though. We'll see if the barrel can keep up with the RRA.

A2 stock right side.jpg

But then this SFAR came along and complicated things a bit. Might end up taking the spot, who knows.
Life is about choices.

I pushed the easy button. I bought a couple of complete lowers from PSA during one of their Shot Show sales. Then bought a couple of 18-inch 6.5 Grendel uppers when they were in stock and on sale. I replaced the barrel on one with a 24-inch EABCO accuracy barrel in 6mm ARC. Interestingly, the 6 ARC runs like a top and shoots accurately but I've had some trouble working the kinks out of the 6.5 Grendel. I'll get some pictures up when I can.
