Ate in a Waffle House today(first time in quite awhile.
They had a sign that said " No Firearms Allowed on Waffle House Property"
To me that means anywhere,even in your car or truck in the parking area.
Also at the same time I was there,a Law Enforcement Officer was eating there and he was wearing a weapon.
Does not the sign mean anything? It said " NO FIREARMS". It did except anyone.
No more meals at Waffle House for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Does GA require specific wording on the sign the way TX does?

What does the law in GA say regarding this sort of signage?

In Texas the sign would only mean they don't want you to , for example, illegally carry a concealed firearm on there premises. It would not apply to a CHL holder.

It means, simply, that they value the safety of criminal over yours and choose to protect the criminals in a very open and visible way (signage).

No weapons or firearms signage have no legal weight in Georgia (The only good thing I can say about the state's otherwise jim crow laws)

The only thing a business owner can do is ask you to leave and if you refuse then you could be arressted for trespass.

As a GFL holder, you have no carry places to worry about besides business that post no weapons signage. Becareful where you go in public while armed. The public place can become a public gathering and then you would be in violation of the law.

Check out this site. http://www.georgiapacking.org It has a pretty good run-down as to where you can and cannot carry. Even though there is still alot of grey area as to where you can carry your piece, this site will help you better understand the law so you won't end up in violation.

Specifically in Texas: Such a sign has no legal standing. If your concealed handgun is "made" and you are asked to leave and you leave, no harm, no foul. Only the "30-06" sign counts at a non-booze joint, and only BEHIND the sign. That is, if the 30-06 sign is at a driveway entrance, the parking lot behind the sign is a forbidden area. If the sign is at the doorway, the parking lot is okay for your handgun to be there.

A plain vanilla "No guns on premises" only legally applies to employees of the owner/manager who put up the sign.

Other states, other laws...

Here in the beautiful state of Ohio all they have to do is tell you....

That sign would be valid....

We call these places "Criminal Protection Zones", set up by criminal-friendly folks.

Keep on driving....

That sign, btw, doesn't exempt CHL's. It really allows only on-duty LEO's.

Not even in the trunk....

Some of our legislators are criminal-friendly. So's the current governor.

Regards,

I've only had one experience in a Waffle house. The food was horrible, and the sherriff had to be called out because an interracial couple were eating there.

Dont think I'll ever go there again.. lol

In NH it means they are trying their best to go out of bussiness. The signs would mean 0 except to piss off folks like me.

I wonder if that's a 'corporate' decision or if it's the local franchise. I eat in WH all the time while I'm on the road and I carry in them regardless...especially if it's late at night...that's when you get to see the really interesting parts of our population... :uhoh:

In SC the sign is valid.. When ever I see a sign like it I ALWAYS,, Stick my head in the door and hollar.." Hey I would eat here ( Buy, Shop, ect..) except I see you don't want honest law abideing people in here.. So I'll just take my money down the street to your competition" Have a safe day now.....I got one gas station to remove the sign by haveing all my cabs fill up somewhere else..

Doing what I can a little at a time !!!

Was this in 1954 :confused:

The food must have really been bad for you to have not gone back since then.

Nope it's way worse in 2006

The folks eating at the waffle house probably took exception, so the police had to be called to protect the couple, not remove them. Also don't assume that it was rednecks doing the attacking I have seen it go three ways around here at least, sometimes the Nubian gods of the Muslim Brotherhood do not like it, often times the golden members of La Raza do not like it, just as often as the occasional white supremist doesn't like it. Things are much worse here now than it was in 1954.

That sign in SC would mean exactly nothing.

SECTION 23-31-235. Sign requirements.

(A) Notwithstanding any other provision of this article, any requirement of or allowance for the posting of signs prohibiting the carrying of a concealable weapon upon any premises shall only be satisfied by a sign expressing the prohibition in both written language interdict and universal sign language.

(B) All signs must be posted at each entrance into a building where a concealable weapon permit holder is prohibited from carrying a concealable weapon and must be:

(1) clearly visible from outside the building;

(2) eight inches wide by twelve inches tall in size;

(3) contain the words "NO CONCEALABLE WEAPONS ALLOWED" in black one-inch tall uppercase type at the bottom of the sign and centered between the lateral edges of the sign;

(4) contain a black silhouette of a handgun inside a circle seven inches in diameter with a diagonal line that runs from the lower left to the upper right at a forty-five degree angle from the horizontal;

(5) a diameter of a circle; and

(6) placed not less than forty inches and not more than sixty inches from the bottom of the building's entrance door.

(C) If the premises where concealable weapons are prohibited does not have doors, then the signs contained in subsection (A) must be:

(1) thirty-six inches wide by forty-eight inches tall in size;

(2) contain the words "NO CONCEALABLE WEAPONS ALLOWED" in black three- inch tall uppercase type at the bottom of the sign and centered between the lateral edges of the sign;

(3) contain a black silhouette of a handgun inside a circle thirty-four inches in diameter with a diagonal line that is two inches wide and runs from the lower left to the upper right at a forty-five degree angle from the horizontal and must be a diameter of a circle whose circumference is two inches wide;

(4) placed not less than forty inches and not more than ninety-six inches above the ground;

(5) posted in sufficient quantities to be clearly visible from any point of entry onto the premises.

A common technique to get CCH legislation passed is to have detailed specs (see above) buried in the code but not publicized. It allows business owners to appeal to those who oppose firearms by posting a meaningless sign void of legal effect. Smartest thing to do is become aware of your state's specific laws. Also look out for details in law requiring all public entries to be posted. If a door in the mall is not posted then entry is perfectly legal. Lots and lots of games are played to get legislation passed. Both sides participate.

I just recently ate at a Waffle House in Thomasville, GA. No sign there.

Also, no sign in any of the WH joints here in Texas.

WH is my boy's favorite restaurant.

I used to eat there a lot when I was on the road more. I think their food has gotten worse and their prices are about twice what they were. My last visit they got my order wrong twice and tried to charge me for stuff I didn't order. Won't miss 'em.

not sure

but we had a shooting here in fredericksburg one dead. ruled a god shoot . it was at wafflr house and perhaps the signs are a knee jerk reaction by the lawyers to reduce their liability. the employees at this waffle house testified and saved the shoooters tail. he initially fled by time he returned they had already told cops about him being attacked and the ca made good ruling. no charges

I like waffle house and have never seen a sign at one, but its been awhile so if it is chain wide it is new or I never noticed.

In SC it would mean nothing. Signs here carry weight but they are very specific, they need proper wording size AND a picture.

Probably a local-franchise thing, from the comments above.

Somebody want to ask the corporate folks about it? Get an answer from one end or another of the horse? That's better than stewing about it, here.

And forget the comments about the food. OT bandwidth-waste.
