Walmart rifle closeouts

I had my eye out for one too but all the Remingtons I’ve seen have been 770. I have one of the 700 adls in 7mm rem mag, great rifle.
A bolt gun in .223 is definitely on my list. I already have ammo and reloading gear for that caliber that I never use ( AR-15s bore me) and I would like to experiment with cast loads for .223 and loading to different power levels from 22lr velocity up through .22 hornet. It would be a fun project. I bet it would be fun to hunt small game with a 55gn cast bullet loaded to 1200-1300 FPS

OK, what a freaking nightmare! But I did go and get one (well, I have to go back because they supersede FL law and mandate a 3 day waiting period). Found an Axis in .243 for $124.00; not bad BUT.......................took 20 minutes for them to look up if they had them in the back; another 30 minutes to go find one (I gave them the choice of a 243, 6.5CM, or a 270.) and then another 30 to complete the 4473 process (although their call in on my BG check took 1 minute, so it wasn't the state)
Last time I had a gun come in to my LGS - a small town store open 12-5 on Sat and Sun, the entire process took less than 10 minutes from start to finish......

As someone whose job entailed (among other things) process improvement, Walmart needs one of their IE guys who make their operations run like a Swiss watch to look into this.

Completely agree. Walmart’s asinine gun sales process ends up taking 2-4 people to complete. The employees usually do not know the process or they know it and complete steps inefficiently (where they could do two actions simultaneously, they frequently do not recognize the opportunity and completes the tasks sequentially). For instance, the employees fail to think, “Everything is about 5 mins from being complete. I should call my manager now to come review the paperwork now so that by the time the manager arrives, everything will be ready and there won’t be a lag waiting on the manager to walk 5 mins across the store.”

What drives me irate is when I went to buy a gun the other day at Walmart and was told, “We don’t have any managers to do a firearms sale so you’ll need to come back in two days.” I told the employee that it was unacceptable and that if Walmart is open, I should be able to buy anything in the store. After I gave her an earful, she placed the gun on hold for me. Walmart needs to fire the drones that seems to make up the preponderance of its personnel. It is better to have fewer employees so long as they are competent. Instead of paying five people $25k each, put a job offer out to hire one person with experience and pay him/her $125k. You’ll likely get more applicants and a person whose performance exceeds the combined performance of the five drones that used to work there. Rant complete.

I found a Remington 700 ADL, 308 with a scope for $250. My son bought it. I got an Savage Axis for $199. Thinking about an ADL for myself.

LOL I just went there because I was on the road anyway going to get cat food, first off the heard I had to dodge in that place on a Sunday afternoon, then the guy says the manager didn't show up for work today so they can't sell guns lol.

And even if they could they would have to do the background check which could take a day to comeback at WHICH time then I can pay and THEN Walmart 3 day wait policy takes effect after payment to be able to take it home, and I have a concealed license but it don't matter I wouldn't have been able to go back there to get it until next week. The Remington 700 .223 they have for $199 I was considering can go in their trash bin for all I care, the only thing I MIGHT have gone through al that is a Henry .44 but they are gonzo.

I went to my local one just to check. Well they had 4 marked in the case as clearance, and they all had hold tags for background checks. Oh well, my loss.

Last year I had the same "mgr called in sick", "automated system is down" and other random excuses why they couldn't sell me a gun today. Had a friend buying a gun, middle of sale the clerk says end of my shift you'll have to come back tomorrow. I went on the corporate web site and sent an email to customer service basically saying if you don't want to sell guns get out of the business and that the game playing during the 2016 ammo shortage by employees appears to be going on in gun sales. Employee doesn't know gun is on clearance, suddenly no one can sell you the gun, next day gun is already sold ( to an employee or friend ). First thing next morning I get a call from local store manager, they are holding the gun for me (was told previously couldn't be done) if I came in today he'd walk the sale through and at the end gave me a $25 gift card. If you are having problems email corporate customer service and be specific.

Mine has a LOT in the back storage room; they didn't have them all out front - did you ask if they had more?

In fact, the clerk told me that the day before, someone came in and bought 11 of them @ $124/ea. (probably why there was no Creedmoor that she could find in the back. I can't imagine how long that buy must have taken

Sighted in both of my new Axis today. Both pretty solid 1-1/2" 5 shot groups from a bench. Quite acceptable for cheap little rifles with hunting ammo.

BTW none of the clearance guns were on display in my store. Not sure if this is the normal way they run inventory, but the lady was very polite and helpful. When I told her what I wanted, department manager told me they had stacks of rifles in boxes in there gun locker. Said they could not allow me to look at them and would not bring out boxes for me to open. Instead she got their inventory binder and let me look through. The pages were covered in stickers for each of the guns - had scan code, serial number, and model info. She scanned them to give me prices. The sold items were crossed out. They had a couple Axis 308, a 6.5, and 25-06. I bought their last clearanced Axis 30-06.

So if you don't see it on a shelf, you might try asking if they had a list of stuff in the back room.

I think I got screwed today. I went to Walmart and the assistant manager was at the club fee. Asked if he had any Axis’s - he told me one .223 for $124. I said I’d take it - he did some more typing on his iPad and told me it was actually $199. Hmm... I passed.

I think they had the heavy barrel Axis at a higher price on Brickseek???

There were stainless ones IIRC that were close to that price.

Id have to question if they have a back store room for them then why weren't the ones pending back there and the available ones in the display case. Idk I might check again tomorrow on my day off but I hate buying anything from Wal-Mart. I felt wrong buying the 100 rd boxes of Federal 12ga target loads, I almost didn't, but they were $20

I buy my Remington Gold Nitros from there as they are $2+/box cheaper than anywhere else................

I would like Walmart to start catching up on wages, like Target and Costco.

American made guns at close out prices it's hard to pass up.

Walmarts around here pay a decent wage for the IQ level needed; truck drivers run over $60K, hourly help running $12-$15

OK... I just figured out something. If you load the Walmart App on your phone you can scan the Barcode from Brickseek and it will locate the stock for you. I just found 2 Remington's "near" me. Checking the GPS 43 minutes away. I'd like to Buy a $124 rifle but I really don't want to drive almost 2 hours and get a "Im Sorry Sir". (I also found some 40" TV's on Brickseek at Walmart for $9.00)

Haven’t had the chance to go and look for another axis but I have in the mean time done some trigger work on my .243 and it helped tremendously. Clipped the trigger return spring down some and did a bit of polishing. Very easy to do and I made a world of difference.

After I posted it got the best of me... And since it's HOT as Hell and I was waiting on a 9mm die I decided to ride 45 minutes to see if Walmart had either of the 2- 770's for $124. Had to wait about 10 minutes for a Sporting Goods person to appear. Checking the other Remington's in the case, no 770's period.
