have a bersa 9mm full size almost identical to the baretta 92fsc. love it shoots like a dream. my wife even loves to shoot this one. you of course can get the baretta 92fs or the taurus pt92 also. i also own the tauruss pt111 melineum pro and love it to death. all of the have an external safety and all but the pt11 is also a decocker. these are all da/sa guns so you can get 2nd strike ability if you want to.

Ruger P-85 Mk.2/P-89/P-95 (Used)

S&W 5906 or similar (Used)

Star (Various models, Used)

I don't recall the price of the pistol itself, but I'd bought a Baby Eagle with a total of six magazines for under $500 NIB. It's a very fine firearm, though I was somewhat suprised to notice that its perceived recoil is greater than a Glock 17, even though the BE weighs a good deal more. Go figure.

I was horribly saddened to learn that I _do_ _not_ _like_ decockers! Bah!

I have to buy a CZ-75B now. (Stainless with *grr* ambi-safety? Or with that suspicious plasti-coat stuff? Bah!)

Hey varoadking, what's buggin' you! My post says internal and yes, his does say external but where's the rub? As for the font size, if you don't like the big size, I wouldn't read the posts! Thanks and have a good 'un in "Dixie"! And try to be nice!

Making a point...

The moderators locked a thread where I and several others suggested a fella might want to reconsider a .380 and look to a 9mm. Because he said he wanted a .380 in the title, the perceived thread drift lead to a lock.

Really didn't mean to be harsh...like I said - just making a point...

Either way, your post is irrelevant to the subject due to the fact that he asked for handguns with an external safety in which you responded with a weapon without an external manual safety, i believe that your response should be disregarded before the thread gets hi-jacked due to an arguement that does not pertain to the original post.

I'd rather agree on the 'why post about Glock' thing... it's not what the poster asked for, but that's not a reason to shut a thread down.

I'd pick the Charles Daley hi-power or the CZ75 series of pistols.

Why an external safety?

Because I like to have them. I've been shooting rifles/shotguns all my life, so it feels weird to get a pistol and not have an external safety, just feels dangerous I guess.

got a stainless taurus pt99 with light rail brand new for $350 just over a year ago for my father's day. Pa was happy that year ;-)

I've heard bad things about taurus cust. service, but I've never seen this first hand as I've never had a taurus pistol that broke on me.

I cannot fault a CZ or Hi Power as a choice. In the CZ family, the Witness would be a good option as well. The new steel guns have an 18 shot capacity and are derived from the 45/38 Super platform. As a result they are very tough, very mild to shoot in 9mm due to mass, and you can convert the guns between 40, 9mm, 38 Super, 45, and 10mm by just changing uppers/mags.

CZ-75, CZ-75 Compact steel frame. Both are equipped with external safeties, and can be carried cocked and locked. The PO1 and PCR, as much as I love them, do NOT have external safeties, just decockers.
