Just wondering what guns some of you would recommend as "must haves."

Any Smith & Wesson K-frame revolver. The Model 10 .38 Special springs first to mind, but then any K frame will work (like the Model 19 mentioned by Ala Dan).

A good 12-guage pump shotgun.

A 22 caliber rifle, bolt or semi.

A 30-caliber rifle with good scope that is accurate at 300 yards. Bolt or semi-auto, your choice.

A small, concealable handgun for CCW purposes, preferably ina caliber that starts with .3X or larger.

A full-sized handgun in .45 caliber be it a 1911, a Sig P220, a Glock/XD/FN45/HK, whatever.

A .22 caliber pistol for fun time and practice. Revolver or auto, your choice.

For me it has been
1911 in 38 super......sure 45 is ok but 38super is just more refined
Full size Sharps Rifle(not the paper cartridge one)
remington 870(doesnt everyone already have one?)
I guess a 10/22 (again I think most folks are born with them in hand)
And I supose some form of front stuffer like a Hawken

My personal " must have firearms " list is not very long.

1. Centerfire revolver. ( Ruger SP101 )
2. Centerfire rifle. ( LRB M14SA )
3. Rimfire rifle. ( Ruger 10-22 )

Then again, I like to have multiples of my must have firearms. # 2 and 3 above are virtually duplicated..... ( 3 M14 types, and 3 10-22's). My other handguns vary a tad.:)

I agree with even. The only one I'm missing from his list is a CCW handgun & I'm working on it!
The only gun I could add to his list is a 5.56 AR.

There aren't enough for every one to have one, but I'll echo Col. Cooper's sentiment and say that a Garand is a "should have". :)

"Must haves" depend on your personal interests and your ability to purchase them. For me the list is about what Evan Price said minus the 45ACP pistol. I think one semi-auto rifle in 223/5.56 is becoming a must have also.

I think a pair of .22 rifles, a Ruger 10/22 and some sort of bolt-action .22.

I also think some sort of East-Bloc rifle - SKS or AK type

Also throwing in my vote for a Glock - I think 1911s are a better fighting pistol in general, but in an "EOTW" or "Poo hits the fan" scenario that could disrupt or even eliminate the availability of spare firearm parts, my vote goes for the ruggedness of Gaston's poly gun.

No such thing as a "must have" firearm. Closest thing to it would be a SD firearm of some kind (at home or CCW), but then it's only "must have" if you need to use it.

Wow! So many possible ways to view this question...

For me, #1 would be my .350 Rem Mag Custom Shop Model 7 carbine. It covers all the hunting bases in North America from deer to Brown Bears.

Then, I'd have to have my Browning Buck Mark for pure recreational joy.

Concealed carry is a tie. I'd either want my early Kimber Aluminum Compact or one of several Hi Powers. I'd be happy with either, but the Kimber probably edges out the Hi Power by narrow margin of .001%.

My son talked me out of my old Ruger 10/22, but that would be a great 5th choice. I need to buy another.

And lastly, one of the cheapest guns I own. An old Baikal coach gun that I carry around when picking berries or fishing here in bear country. It was the best $200 I ever spent.

I own another 25 or 30 guns, but the ones above are the ones I'd never part with.
