I went a different route. I went sort of a "kiss my ________ Senator Feinstein" route and got something that I feel largely "unbannable". I know that there's always risk. I wanted something light and handy and, even though I live in Indiana where gun laws are great (the few that we have) I figured I'd get a nice gun for multi-purpose use that no State in the Union currently bans or places any restriction on (except for the hollow-point thing in New Jersey).
Now for the record, I really love this thing too. It shoots great, it's light, it's handy, it's fun, it's built tough, and it's just plain cool...and simple. Ruger 77/357. Gotta get some more mags for it. I am going to make a bandoleer rather like the one that M1 Garand enbloc clips came in except made of leather. Get either 25 or 50 rounds all loaded up in the 5 round rotary magazines.
This is also my "handgun replacement" gun. Sort of a civilian, all jurisdiction legal, PDW. I drive a lot in Illinois. I can take this with me and stay in a hotel legally in Illinois (and every other state in the union...some municipalities not withstanding). This thing might even be legal in NYC...but I wouldn't take it there without a heck of a lot of legal research.
