If you want a scout, get a Scout! The Steyr is the way to go. Yes, its expensive, but once you do everything to another gun to get all the features on the Steyr, you're getting pretty close to the same cost.
-- The spare mag in the stock is a slick feature. No need to carry loose ammo when hunting. They are all there, ready to go.
-- The bipod is surprisingly handy. Yes, there are better bipods, but none that disappear when not needed.
-- The Ching sling is beyond compare. Once you understand this system, you'll wonder why anybody would use anything else.
-- The mounts are already there for both conventional and scout scopes. I actually suggest getting non-quick detach rings becuase I just haven't been happy with the Leupolds. Get something that is designed to fit a Picatinny rail like TPS light weight rings.
-- Adjustible length of pull is nice as well. I like my stocks long, but I can shorten it within seconds if my girlfriend wants to shoot.
-- I love the safety. Its easy and VERY secure. If you hunt in thick brush or need to climb steep hills, you can lock the bolt and push it down nearly flush against the stock so it will not snag.
-- The trigger is unreal. It takes a little adjustment to get used to a 2 stage trigger, but once you get it, you'll never go back. It comes shipped at about 3.25#, but it easy to get it down to 2.25# safety. Even at the stock setting, its VERY crisp and breaks like the thin glass rod Cooper demands.
Its an ugly gun. No doubt about it, its ugly. My only real complaint is the size of the ejection port. Other than that, its as close to perfect as I can imagine a rifle. That's why I own two of them, plus a Tactical Elite.
