Rorbaugh R9. $1000+ for a pocket popper of questionable reliability, needs recoil springs changed every 300 or so rounds, and can't even handle +p 9mm? WAAAY overrated.

The .357-magnum revolver is probably the most overrated type of firearm.

~G. Fink

You got that right.

My other choices:
ARs with every imaginable doohickey bolted, taped or glued on.
Plastic pistols (any brand).

Wow, so much Glock hate. I'll agree that it's one of the most over HYPED guns, but not overrated. Durable, reliable, accurate, economical, etc. Other than aesthetics, which is debatable, what's not to like? Just because YOU don't like the grip, trigger, etc, does not mean others don't like it either and it does not detract from an otherwise fine firearm.

I'd have to say S&W 340PD and similar. MSRP is $1019. Everybody talks about the ability to shoot .357 Mag, but nobody seems to be able to do it or want to do it - too much recoil.

I can't believe anybody voted for Remington 870. It's not like it costs $1,000. It's an incredible value. You can get a used 870 Express for under $200.

I picked other. because I hear every day all over the web people bragging about the stinking Desert Eagle. I am so sick of hearing about this pistol it makes me sick to my stomach. :cuss::banghead:

People keep talking ak47, so I'll pick one comment at random:
Same thing with a AK. It was designed to be a cheap easily made despensable gun yet here they are worth 400 to 700 dollars.

As with the 1911's and glocks, I think that the AK-47 at $400-700 is overrated.

But when you can build your own for right at $200, and you can see that these things are used (daily) in wars around the world and keep chugging, I don't think it's overrated. If an AR-15 was $300, I don't think people would complain as much about reliability.

Hokmike I think what sm is trying to say is the best tool you have should be the grey matter between your ears. A weapon is just a hunk of metal without someone with intelligence to wield it.

If you count, Glock seems to be winning.....er.....losing. I have never owned one, but have recently considered purchasing one. I've held them at gun counters, but never fired one.

The opinions only keep getting more and more polarized. I'm not one to believe hype. I am still considering buying one based upon the fact that I'm sure it is a good shooting, reliable firearm. Yet all the negativity has convinced me to keep my expectations low.

After all, after so many mentions of it being overrated, there absolutely HAS TO BE some small shred of truth to it.

All these people can't be making stuff up, yet if it's so awful, why are there millions of people perfectly happy with them?

I guess I'll just have to buy one, and keep my expectations low.

That way, I'll either not be dissappointed, or pleasantly surprised.

Sound reasonable?

almost any thing by HK.

the G3. just a cetme made by the huns
the MP5.
the G36
the XM8
the USP

etc

i think glocks ARE overrated. but atleast they can back it up in some way. the AK is in no way overrated/if anything its underated with all smack talk about accuracy..

software. not hardware

Just to be sure... we are talking about over-rated, and not over-priced, right?

It sounds that we equate over-price and over-rated.
