I think most shooters are over rated. Which is why we then blame our weapons.

As for the AR/AK debate, both have pros and cons and the decision is quite personal, but anyone who does their homework correctly can get a very functional gun at a somewhat reasonable price. It ain't the 50's anymore, inflations up, and guns aren't 50 dollars.

I have to say Blocks also, and ak's , but why do I have so many kits around to build?

Ar rock, take one out p dog hunting and throw rocks at a bolt gun

I'll jump on the bandwagon...

Kimbers: while they make a nice piece of cheap art, they are mostly horrible as a firearm.

Glock's: I think of them sorta like your friend Billy in high school and it was the first time he had "intimate relations" with a girl and "fell in love". People buy their first gun, a Glock, it goes bang, and they can hit a silhouette at 7 yards and somehow think they are God's gift to shooters.

"I have over 100,000 rounds through mine without a failure EVER. I've only cleaned it 2 times, once was when I first bought it and once was just a wipe down to take the powder residue off the outside.

I've even put 2 mags full under water without failure; I guess you could call that a cleaning if you want. Glock's don't even need lube they like to run on sand for lubrication. I dump mine in mud once a week just to keep it running right.

They are so well known and scary that the mere sight of one will make a man crap his pants. The super indestructible, harder that steel, and more flexible than rubber frames will last forever. The polygonal barrel is more accurate than anything ever produced before and will give MOA accuracy even for a new shooter.

Glock's are also the safest pistol ever designed, why else would every LEA buy them? The unique action of the Glock prevents any accidental and negligent discharges.

Speaking of LEO's and their agencies, they all buy the best there is because the need the best in any scenario this is why most have gone with Glock's. The other agencies just can't afford it yet.

Glock's are so well focused because they only build 1 style of handgun, this gives them superb quality over any other manufacturer. They don't need to build anything else. Glock rifles? Shotguns? Who needs that when you've got a Glock 20 at your side? I can hunt deer and bear with that thing! I could even take an elephant if needed. A single shot from the 20 will blow a man in half and send him recoiling back 5 feet, Ya, I've got bunch more in the mag but I don't need them because 1 shot from them is all you need, but they recoil less than any other auto, so if you need more follow up shots you'll be able to hit them again hard and fast. No other pistol can do this.

The great thing about them is they will always hold their value you can get 95% of what you paid for it even if it's got 50,000 rounds through them. And speaking of price why would I want to buy anything other than a Glock, $1,000 on a 1911 pahleeez! I can get 2 Glock's for that!

Glock's are so well know that even the Glock symbol is banned in school's as kids can't even have the name on a pen! Just holding a Glock in your hand jumps the testosterone levels in men 50% that's why this is the only real man's gun!"

Oh, and I'm not sure who wrote the above post...but I imagine it was a collective work of all Glock owners. :neener:

I'm quite shocked by all the Glock hater's here, I thought they were still in the closet.

1911 - been around for 100 years and you still have to pay $1000 to get one that MIGHT be reliable after a 200 round break in. Also I think the fact that they had to stick a monster beavertail on the grip, giving even more metal to conceal and dig into your side, to keep the shooter's hand from getting chewed up by the hammer might be slightly indicative of a major design flaw. I know people love them but I cannot for the life of me understand why.

i will say 1911, single stack, overpriced, not anything new.
and pretty much all glock pistols. i hate the trigger pull, the fit and finish and pretty much everything else about them.

Glock.
I love the 1911. for one reason The thumb safety. You see it. the hammer cannot get past it. Done deal and I trust it.
I only need 7 rounds of Forty five. I am sure of that. If I need anything more then I will get my hands on a shotgun or a rifle. The military taught me many things. When deploying I felt sorry for the officers who carried pistols while I carried a rifle and two hundred and ten rounds.
Factor the range and do the math.
You can squeal all you want to about how many rounds you need in a pistol but in the end a pistol is still a pistol.

Gee whiz, after I read this poll nearly everything in my locker is junk and I don't even own a Glock or an SKS.

Better go shopping :scrutiny:

I understand that a lot of people don't like Glocks

what I don't understand is why? It is perfectly fine to not like anything, or for that matter anyone, for any or no particular reason. However, should you decide to give a reason for your dislike you should be prepared to back it up. To say that something is overated is to say that something does not deserve the praise that it gets. So what praise that has been heaped upon the Glock that is not deserved. I will point out the pros of the the Glock that I have both heard and, through experience of ownership, believe. To those of you who hate Glocks, tell me which you statements you believe to be untrue and why. No one ever said that Glocks were pretty so to say that it is ugly is no indictment of its being overated. Also, all guns have had the occasional kaboom as well as the occasional failure to function so to point out an instance of failure realy doesn't cut it. And most of the Glocks weren't designed to be target grade shooters.

Glocks are rugged- No handgun prior to the Glock had ever undergone the extreme testing that the glock had gone through, let alone survive.

Glocks are reliable-Again, Glocks have been subjected to and survived thousands of rounds of firing without cleaning. There is some guy out there that has a 22 that has over 100,000 rounds through it without cleaning.

Glocks will feed any ammo out there- Massaad Ayoob once did a test where he filled a couple Mags with empty cases and mannualy functioned the slide and it fed every single round. I have never found any ammo to have feeding problems. That is not to say that I have not a couple of malfunctions. I have fired thousands of rounds through my everyday Glock, probably closer to tens of thousands and I only recall 4 jams, all with reloads.

Glock has a huge percentage of the LE Market- It is either true or it isn't. To spout conspiracy theories as to how this came to be is neither relevant nor proveable.

Glocks are affordable- Actually I think that Glocks are are one of the best values out there. There is no other $450 auto out there that I would go out and buy, load with ammo and tuck it in to my holster with confidence that it will go bang when I need it to. Are there any 1911's any where near this price range that any of you can say that about. Another thing that maks it affordable is all the things that you can't do to it. Buying a 1911 is likebuying a boat, you constantly pour money into them both.

Shootability-Glocks are plenty shootable. No they don't feel like a 1911. They aren't a 1911. Some people don't like the feel of the trigger, so what you can say that about any ruger too. Ifyou switch from a 1911 to a Glock it will take somegetting used to. If you start with a Glock will come as natural to you as a 1911 does to the the 1911 guy.

The Bottom line is that they are rugged, reliable, affordable and, pack lots of firepower into a small package.

My pick for most overated firearm is the Remington 700. They are over priced and under accurate. I say this having owned several remingtons Rughers and Savages. Savge is by far a better value and more consistantly accurate.

I now thoroughly expect some one to jump on the I hate Savge bandwagon.

A Glock. Absolutely the most over rated firearm in the world today. Not that there is anything wrong with them. They just aren't free-world saving, evil-slaying, eighth wonder of the plastic world that fanboys make them out to be.

Kimber .45

My brother has one and so does a good friend of mine.

When they talk about them, the lovefest almost sickens me. I shot my friend's a few mags worth. Nice, but not noticeably different than any other semi-auto I've shot.

HAHAHAHA.

I had voted and replied first before reading the replies already entered. The number of times Glock came up made me laugh my ass off.

1911s in particular, any semi-auto in general and AR-15s because i am tired of them overall.

I have dropped most of my gun magazines because of the endless articles on 1911s. I don't read the articles anymore, i just look at the out of this world asking price and move on. Who the hell buys a pistol that cost $2000.00 + dollars. I can afford one i just can't justify it.

In Guns Magazine they have a feature article everytime a manufacturer changes the angle of the gripping grooves on the slide or makes a new grip. Then the photo guy "Itchy Noggin" makes a centerfold spread that would make Hugh Heffner weak in the knees.

These aren't guns for self defense but for people who are collectors. Thanks but no thanks i'll spend my reading dollars some where else.

All pistols, they just don't do anything for me.
1911
Glocks

They're all boring.

Give me a carbine or rifle anyday and I'll be :).
