So far everything but my wheelies are overrated. Pesonally I think O/U doubles are overrated and overpriced as well as Olympic .22 pistols and rifles.

wow i expected glock to get ripped lots of people dont like them
but someone ripped the ruger 10/22 i cant believe it
the 10/22 is awesome

ARMORED MAN...

now THAT is some funny do-do man! My wife is wonder what in the hell I am reading...ROFLMAO!

oh and all that about you owe me another keyboard and all that stuff...ya :D

The AR15 and 1911, specifically those made by Colt.

Glock...over rated?????

While they are not my favorite handguns and I find the grip angle unappealing, you will be hard pressed to find a more versatile, more durable, more reliable, better designed, easier to strip, clean, and maintain fighting handgun.

As for how they took over the LE market: They provided a top notch product at a lower cost and provide superb customer service/support after the sale. If the low bidder was selected, we would all be carrying Sigmas. In fact, Sigmas were selected by a large local LE agency out of loyalty to the brand. They were also sent back to SW because they were junk. That agency now issues...you guessed it...Glocks. Sig, Springfield, Glock, and Ruger were all evaluated.

After reliability and durability, economics does play a role in the selection process, but it is not a deciding factor for most departments. The mentality in choosing Glock is usually that you can spend more, but don't necessarily get more.

Glock bumped S&W the same way Toyota is bumping GM.

`BBQ has the best handle on THR. ^^

Overrated= Colt Revolvers. They have their fanboys, due more to their price point, but there are stronger wheelies and there are as or more smooth triggers.

Glock claiming perfection makes them overrated. They're a good product, but perfection? Nuh-uh.

Winchester lever guns: over rated. All name and hype and misty eyed wild west reputation. Good product, but certainly not head and shoulders better than others.

How dare you even put the 870 on the list!?!??!?!?!?!

50 cal. Desert Eagle for sure.

And anything in 5.7 x 28.

Glock...any make. Guns should not be made of plastic. Period.

Any 1911 over $1000.

Mauser 1898. The Springfield 1903 is better. Even better, the Chilean Mauser 1895.

The HK Mk23 and the FN FiveseveN handgun.

The former is the size of a desert eagle but twice as expensive, the latter is a plastic POS with poor ergonomics that costs $900 and basically fires a .22WMR. I have no idea why either of them are so popular. I guess there are a lot of mall ninjas around.

With my lack of firearms experience, especially in the realm of handguns, I had to really rack my brain to come up with an overrated firearm. But, here's what I came up with.

Semi-auto shotguns.

More expensive than pumps, and the speed advantage isn't huge if you know what you're doing. Unless, of course, you're talking about a Saiga shotty. Now those just look like tons of fun. :D

The Judge - a handgun solution to a nonexistant problem - bought mainly by folks who don't want how to property use a gun. :D

To be the most overrated it HAS to be a VERY POPULAR gun. That means it can't be the Taurus Judge or any of the esoteric Desert Eagle Class Hollywood hype guns. Sure, those can be overrated; they just can't be the MOST overrated. The only ones that can be the MOST overrated are the ones that make astounding ridiculous claims that most people believe. That being the case the choices probably are in the Pistol Category GLOCKs and 1911s since they probably far outnumber anything else including the overrated H&K. In my PERSONAL OPINION, GLOCK has this hands down, since in my not inconsiderable experience, the 1911 is much more likely to fulfill it's claims much more so than the GLOCK can and a looong military history that is hard to discredit. The 1911 is the auto pistol by which all others are compared. That has to count for something. The reason GLOCK cornered the LE market was because it was simple for all those non-gun, non-warrior people that make up the majority of police departments nowadays, to operate. And consequently, we have negligent discharges to levels never before approached in law enforcement history. (this by the way, is less of an indictment on the design than it is of inadequate training). Not to mention, plastic just not holding up the way it is claimed. This does not in any way detract from the claims on this board that many people have made regarding their OWN PERSONAL GLOCK. We are speaking of the total numbers and being involved in training for twenty years, I've seen more parts and frames wear out on GLOCKS than on any other platform. The Beretta 92 could probably be up here as well.
In shotguns, the 870 has this category all to itself, and although I prefer a different make and model, this gun is definately NOT overrated. Everything it claims to do it does, and well.
In revolvers, basically you are limited to Colts and Smiths since they have carried the revolver market for so long. Perhaps the Colt is slightly more overrated (meaning not quite as good as they claim), but they do have a formidable history that is hard to argue with.
Rifles? Someone mentioned Winchester Lever Actions. This may be the only challenge to the GLOCKs as the most overrated. The Winchesters (while I love them) really are and always have been an inferior design to other levers of the time who had a pretty fair share of the market. This is another gun that benefitted from good PR, marketing and television exposure. It really isn't as good as it is claimed.
AR-15 and AK/SKS? Maybe, but I think all of those come closer to fulfilling their hype better than the GLOCK does.
I think GLOCK takes it by a hair over the Winchester 94.

Just to be sure... we are talking about over-rated, and not over-priced, right?

It sounds that we equate over-price and over-rated.

+1. They often go hand-in-hand, though. If firearms were free, THEN we could truly sort out the overrated, as we would then only take only those that meet our personal accuracy/reliability/aesthetic requirements.

And, BTW, I don't think declaring something "overrated" means that one hates it. It just means that it doesn't deserve as much "gushing over" as people give it.
