What do you use for your home defense ?

Mossberg 500 loaded with #4 shot
GLOCK 26 with 115gr +P Cor-Bon
Kel-Tec P3AT with 90GR +P Cor-Bon
Kel-Tec P32 with Cor-Bon and FMJ Combo.

I live up a six mile long rutted road which leads to a two mile long gated driveway. If someone gets that far, they have the motion sensored floodlights, remote security cameras, Three territorial dogs and a fiery redhead for a girlfriend (She has her own gunsafe) to deal with. I feel pretty safe. Otherwise, if something goes bump in the night, it is either a Ithaca M37, SW 686 or Colt Combat Commander to smooth things out.

Primary HD gun is a RRA 9mm AR15 with a 9 volt surefire.

I prefer my Mossberg 590 (also with a surefire), however the lady is comfortable with the AR, so its what I leave out.

I'm waiting on my 5.56 upper, it will likely take the place of the 9mm. Same recoil (recoil?), same controls, etc, just more noise.

The HD gun would probably be my Glock 19 with an M3. Its not dedicated for HD, its my beater. Car gun, yard gun, etc. It's almost never locked up.

As asked before I only had to pull out the shotgun once in an HD situation. Two punks were trying to jimmy the lock on my house out in the Mojave Desert. Right as they open the door they here the "cha-chunk" of me chambering a round into my Remington 31. I don't think I've seen anyone run as fast as they did, and now I always keep it handy near my bed.

In reality I think I was as scared as they were. :uhoh:

Home Defence/ night

On my side of the bed, a Bushy 223 w/ a 20rd mag containing 50gr HP in the well and another 20rd on the stock loaded with SS109 Green Tip, my LW Commander w/2 mags (my CCW) loaded with Speer flying ashtrays. Loving Wife has her IJ 30carbine with a 15rd mag in the well and 2 on the stock, all loaded with Win. 110gr HP, and a Smith M60 loaded with 140gr HP.
2 70lb dogs in the front room.

We sleep well at night!:D

Oneshooter
Livin in Texas

60 dogs outside
2 dogs inside.

After that, an FAL, a few CZs, maybe the SKS or shotgun... Who knows? But I'd hate to shoot anyone who's mentally incompetent. That is, whoever doesn't get scared off by 60+ dogs barking at them has something obviously wrong with their head.

Primary = 130 lb. Rottweiler

Backup = Glock 40 cal. with a tactical light and several spare magazines

Worst Case = Bushmaster w/ plenty of accessories and magazines

Ruger P89, Mossberg 20 Ga. Bolt gun, and if I run out of ammo an aluminum baseball bat. I also have a Black Lab and a highly trained vicious attack kitten

1911 with DoubleTap 230gr Gold Dots (extra mags in the nighstand!), Winchester Defender with federal reduced recoil 00B, and a CZ SP-01 that's not immediately available, but handy in case the first two don't work out for whatever reason. :)

3" S&W 10-7 with 158gr LSWCHP +P's and a
mossberg 500A with Remington managed
recoil 00 buck.There's also a 4 D cell mag
light and my cell phone on my night stand.

Ithaca m37 12-gauge pump with sawed (20 inch?) cylinder bore barrel. Winchester 00 Buck, 12 pellets.

My Cairn terrier died. He would have been more likely to squeal with excitement to see someone than to bark anyway. He saved the barking for squirrels and cows.

So I guess that leaves my wife and I each with short barreled 870's and 00 under the bed along with a .357 revolver in the car and a .357 revolver in the downstairs office. Also we each have an old .38 revolver in our respective nightstands as backup.

I unload everything before the grandkids arrive for a visit, but otherwise keep them all loaded and ready to grab.

Just my Glock 23. The shotgun and AR-15 are locked up in the safe. If the dog's barking doesn't get rid of an intruder, the first shot from the Glock should do the trick.

A Glock 36 with a 6 round and a 7 round mag. But I don't think I've heard of too much burglaries since I moved to Texas from CA

Ruger P-97 for the most part. A loaded Remington 870 is handy just in case there's time to grab it. I'd rather have more than a handgun, but the handgun is next to the bed and I can have it in my hand faster than I can clear the sleep from my eyes anyway.

I have my AK with a 75 round drum in it, but I keep the drum unwound. I figure if I ever need to step up that far, a couple seconds winding it is no big deal.

I also have 2 large old english sheepdogs that tend to deter most problems and would at least delay them long enough for me to act. Although I consider them family so their purpose is as alarms only. I'll deal with the problem myself rather than chance them getting hurt.

The most important parts of my home defense, besides the dogs, is something I encourage everyone to consider. An alarm, and X-10 controllers. The alarm is self explanatory. The X-10's are an inexpensive way to control the electronics in your house. I keep a wireless X-10 remote next to the gun. In a "situation" I can remotely turn on any light in the house. This puts an intruder suddenly standing in a lighted room, while I'm standing outside of it in the dark. No flashlight giving away my position. Of course I carry a flashlight just in case, but it's sure better to light up the intruder with the X-10's if possible. Even if you can't have an alarm for whatever reason, I encourage you to look into adding the inexpensive X-10 controllers to your home. They aren't permanent, so they're even ideal for renters.

A few years back I actually had to put this system to the test.

Primary would be my 92FS Inox with 15 rounds of Federal hydra-shoks.

IF you get passed that or if I need somthing with more authority then my Ithaca M-37 cruiser has 5 rounds of winchester 1 oz slugs that can answer any questions a BG might have.
