what is the least amount of rounds that you feel comfortable with for favorite round

I don't mind being close to zero as long as I've got bullets, powder and primers to make more. It's when my stock of any of those falls to under 1000 bullets for any of the popular handgun calibers, 3 to 4 lbs of suitable powder and anything under 5000 primers that I start finding it hard to breath... :D

I never like to look in the cabinet and see a few rounds. I don't have much purchase rounds other than 22s. But I keep plenty of 9mm and 45 acp on hand. I also keep enough powder, primers and bullets on hand to keep me shooting through any scare.

I try to keep at least one 50 cal ammo can filled per caliber. The rounds are in 50/100 count labeled boxes, just to keep everything nice and tidy.

I am low on pistol primers, so I am currently nervous. I enjoy doing batches of 100-200 rds on my ss, so I keep a few hundred on hand, but I worry about components. I'm due for a primer buy, then projectiles

1 or 2, maybe.

If I had only a single caliber/gun/load, I guess it would be more. :)

100 or so of rifle and 300-400 of handgun calibers of reloads on hand. I have buckets of prepped brass, propellant, primers, lead/molds/bullets-----enough to keep me shooting for at least 5 years at present rate. This could be stretched out to my and my families lifetime with little trouble if we practice a bit of restraint.;) Easy enough to take the time to whip up a batch when needed as others have already said. Having this stock in a fluid state (factory containers of propellant/primers and unloaded components) allows it to be used where things run low without the need of taking apart already loaded ammo. Also easier to sell at close to retail if it comes to that.

500 to 600 for handgun calibers once I have a load I like, corresponds to the ammo boxes I have for each caliber. for bottle neck a couple of hundred rds only. still figuring out rifle loads

I like too keep a couple hundred rounds per caliber; I have no logic for that need other than it feels right to me. Funny thing, I just did a .22 count of my stash; I have been buying .22 when they are available and "reasonably" priced -I counted 4,800 rounds (various brands) in my safe. I shoot about 50 rounds a year (give or take) for a little bench time and squirrels; I am 60 years old. The math is easy, I am good to 156 years old at this rate and with no more purchases. I guess I got "the fear" over time but, I am not going to run out - also, I am one of those people that caused the shortage. I am guilty. Good shooting.

I traditionally keep about 200 or so of each cartridge for everything I load; handgun, rifle, and shotgun. My wife just recently bought a couple of new handguns, and has been shooting more (yeah, woe is me ;)), so I think I'm going to have to rethink those numbers. I like to have enough that we can just grab a box or two and go whenever we feel the need to shoot.

More important, I think though, as others have mentioned, is the inventory of components. I have around 1000 or so unloaded brass for all of our popular stuff, and expendables (powder/primers/bullets) for them all. If I had a little spare time and some motivation, we could have a nice pile (and a Popeye arm).
