I like too keep a couple hundred rounds per caliber; I have no logic for that need other than it feels right to me. Funny thing, I just did a .22 count of my stash; I have been buying .22 when they are available and "reasonably" priced -I counted 4,800 rounds (various brands) in my safe. I shoot about 50 rounds a year (give or take) for a little bench time and squirrels; I am 60 years old. The math is easy, I am good to 156 years old at this rate and with no more purchases. I guess I got "the fear" over time but, I am not going to run out - also, I am one of those people that caused the shortage. I am guilty. Good shooting.
