What Type Of Ammo Do You Carry In your 380 Pistol?

I have watched a ton of youtube video's on 380 acp shot thru ballistic gel with 4 layers of denim. Best HP's usually are Federal Hydra-shok 90 gr, Speer GD 90 gr, Hornady XTP or Critical Defense 90 gr, and the new Federal HST 99 gr. All give good expansion and at least 8 inches of penetration.

I am currently loaded up with the 99 gr Federal HST's, but would feel very comfortable with any of the above loads.

Last time I carried a .380 was a few years ago. When I did it was Federal Hydra-Shoks. If I started carrying .380 again (something I am considering) I would probably switch to Lehigh XP rounds.

90gr Hydra-Shoks, they seem to work well in both my Makarov and my wife's Glock 42

The Mak eats anything I feed it, but the G42 is more picky, and the Hydra-Shok was one of the few rounds that we tried that cycled it reliably 100% of the time...

I have two G42 pistols and I have not had a single problem with at least 7 or 8 different brands of ammo.

Off the top of my head I have used Fiocchi, both fmj and XTP, Hornady, UMC, PPU jhp, Magtech fmj, Freedom XTP, Freedom fmj and Remington fmj and have yet to have a failure.

Not trying to bash the G42 kokapelli, just saying that in my own personal experience with it, it's a picky eater. Also my wife has two friends who own G42s (these things are popular with the ladies) and they've had a similar experience (although I think one of them might just be limp-wristing it).

But feed the G42 ammo that it likes and it's an awesome gun. I was impressed enough by it to get a G43 for myself. I'm also pleased to report that the G43 (at least my particular specimen) is NOT picky. I've only had one failure with it, with light reloads using 100gr bullets intended for use in .380s, and I was shooting weak-hand when it happened so it could have just been me (again possible limp wrist situation).

The G43 looks like a winner, but my very old joints can't handle the small nines anymore. I hardly ever shoot my PM9 just for the reason.
