What type of firearm does your girlfriend/wife use for self defense?

My ex-GF tried several different models I have before settling on the HK USPc .40.
She started learning how to properly shoot then figured what she was most
comfortable with and could shoot best. Then she tried to take my stainless.

My mother carries a snubby .38 Charter from the olden days.

I scored the thirteen year old girl shooting at a 900 next to me last month. She put her first five shots in the black at 25 yards with a 1911. I got my wife a smith 41 with ultradot for her birthday and she's been enjoying shooting that. I thought it was prudent to start her with a .22 and take the bang and recoil out of the initial experience.

My wife carries a Kel-Tec P-32 but likes to use a Glock 17 whenever she goes to requalify for her CHL.

DSW Buys her own!

Hi Y'all,
DSW buys most of her own guns. She has a "Couple" sidearms.
Her regular SD weapon is an S&W 6906, 9mm.
She has a 12 ga. 870, for the heavier stuff.
She has a couple of rifles...........
She shoots well.
She's got my back.
Good enough for us, hunnh.

Wife's Weapons:
Springfield Armory Ultra Compact 1911 in 9mm (Officer's ACP sized)
Kel-Tec P32 .32ACP

I can get my wife 100% safety & function trained on a weapon system, but only 50-75% when it comes to shooting technique. The who "married" thing gets in the way & it is best to let someone else work with her from that point.

Wife was using a Bersa .380 until I picked up a Rossi .357 snubby.
It's gone . Right into the black hole of her purse.
Daughter a 1911 since she's 14.
She just keeps fixing it. There's almost no finish left on it.

My wife carries an M1911. Here in AZ open-carry is legal so the gun's size vis a vis concealment is not an issue. Max the Dog is the other key part of her defensive suite.

As others have said, weight of the gun is a big part of managing the recoil. If she needs something lighter it will probably have to be in .38 / 9mm / .380. Check out the link to Cornered Cat Pax gave... lots of good advice there.

My wife's is a Makarov that she asked me to get for her at the last gun show I went to. She's even making "I wanna CHL" noises now! Just another step down tyhe road to full corruption! BWAHAHAHA!

The girlfriend just purchased a Kahr K9, and we broke it in at the range today. (Range report will be forthcoming)
It will be her carry gun, which is a relief to me, as it means I get my P228 back :)
As we were leaving the range, she looked at a Kimber Pro Carry like my brothers, and decided that would be her next gun, as soon as she pays off the credit card bill for the K9. 5'2, 105... with a 1911. I love this country.

As a side note, I need to thank Wild Bill and Al Thompson for helping her to find a pistol she liked.

My fiancee's first experience with self defense type weapons was when she shot my 1911 a few weeks ago. She acutally outshot me using some sissy girl-type stance and a girly limp wristed grip. Needless to say my jaw dropped and i quickly snatched the pistol away before any of my friends could notice :p

actually i let her keep shooting the rest of the mag, she loved it and hit everything she aimed for (we were poping water bottles and pine cones at 15 yards). Her only complaint was that it was too loud. I guess thats true, shooting a .45 without hearing protection can get pretty noisy. I bought her some hearing protection and she got very excited and wants to shoot again.

kinda makes me laugh when i think about some grown men on these boards complaining about .45's recoil and my fiancee doesn't even know enough to think about recoil.. she just likes to see water bottles jump when she pulls the trigger.

maybe when we can afford it i'll take her to a gun show and have her pick out a pistol so she can have one of her own. Does Kate Spade make 1911 grips? Am I less of a man for knowing who Kate Spade is?

My girlfriend has a xd-9 subcompact on her nightstand. Once she gets the chance, she want to take a CCW class.

Not to be nosy or anything, but you don't make it a habit of shooting without hearing protection do you? If so tisk tisk...

i know i know.. shame on me. I try to use it when I shoot anything worse than 12 guage or .22s but i forget some times. I know i'll pay for it later and i'm positive i'm already paying for it now, i cant hear as well as my fiancee can so i'll be sure to protect her hearing so atleast one of us can hear well :D

I know its not a good excuse but dad never used hearing protection in Vietnam and he is fine after two tours and multiple other missions throughout his 22 years in the Corps. He even said he had a 500 pounder dropped mistakenly 100 yards infront of him. Ruptured both ear drums and a few schrapnel wounds but dad said he was fine except for the not being able to balance because of the screwed up equilibrium thing. Lucky guy.

Now that I think of it.. i've atleast perforated if not ruptured my own ear drums a couple times due to either IEDs or firearms related incedents.

Always wear your ear muffs, kids!

My wife picks her guns, and so far she has chosen a pre-lock S&W M342PD, an older S&W M65LS, and a .45 ACP Series '70 Colt modified by John Harrison as her carry guns. She also has a 9x19 bobtailed Caspian Commander in the queue.

My wife...

She loves my Guns right now her perfered carry piece is a Smith & Wesson Sigma Enhanced series 9mm Same as mine but when we go horseback riding she carries a Marlin 1894C lever action in a .357 Magnum and she has a Ruger Blackhawk .357 Magnum and a 9mm Derringer with snake shot. And now she shoots so dang well with those .357's she makes me look bad.

I recently bought my wife a Ruger SP-101 (3 1/8" barrel, .357 magnum) and added a set of Crimson Trace Laser Grips. Since she has virtually no prior experience with firearms (we're newlyweds), I wanted her to start with something of a respectable defensive caliber that was compact (to fit her hands), yet heavy enough that recoil would be manageable. Also, I wanted something that had a simple manual of arms. The laser grips work great, especially since the sights on this particular revolver are rudimentary at best (of course, we still practice using iron sights too). All in all, we are both happy with our selection.

My girlfriend prefers her 870, youth model, 20 gauge.

mattw: As long as you are not lusting after the Kate Spade grips, I think your manhood is safe. ;)
