What was the first handgun you ever owned and how old were you when you got it?

First handgun is a S&W 17 that I got in 1993, not my first firearm just my first handgun. Since I grew up in NJ even owning a shotgun was a chore. I still have this 17 and while not lately it is one gun that always goes to the range with me.. Made in 1959 I'm only a couple years older.

I bought a 28-2 in 1972 from Bond's Gun Shop, 24th and Indian School Rd in Phoenix. I was 22. Yep, and like a fool I sold it. Recently replaced it with a similar vintage model from 1976.

Given to me by my grandfather in 1984.
Still have it to this day. Box and all paperwork.
First I ever purchased myself new was my 5904 S&W
I traded a Ruger Single Six for a Beretta 950 in that same sporting goods store when I was going to college in that town in 1966.

Thanks for the smile I got when I saw that tag just now.

nickel finished Sig P228, maybe 1992? Before the magazine ban anyway. I was about 26 at the time.

Grew up with guns all over the house, barn, shop, tractor. None of them were were "mine" I guess. You just grabbed whatever was around. I got a Ruger Blackhawk as a Christmas present at like 14 or 15 which I guess we could call mine. I took it when I left the farm. That gun was my constant companion until I began shooting competitively in 2000 maybe. The semi auto addiction relegated the old Blackhawk but since you brought it up I guess I might dig it out this summer.
