My very first handgun was a DA High Standard revolver in .22 caliber. It looks alot like a single-action, but has a swing out cylinder. It is called the "Marshall" and is 9 shot.

I would say that a lot of the older folks here started out with a revolver too.
So, let's see how it goes.

My first handgun was bought for me by my mom in 1988 when I was 18. It was a Thompson/Center Contender in .223 (technically, it's my mom's gun--registered to her).

First handgun that I BOUGHT was a Glock 17 in 1992.

Additional, un-asked-for information:

Second was a Ruger Super Blackhawk .44 Magnum in '93 or '94.

Third, after a long purchasing hiatus, is a CZ P-01 in '06.

I love each of my guns. They all rock!

Springfield GI Mil-Spec. It jammed and the finish was easily worn down by carrying. Sold it for a Glock 21 after less than a year.

I've since owned a Kimber Custom Eclipse II, which I found to be much more to my liking.

Coincidence, my 1st revolver was a blue Hi-Standard Double-Nine Longhorn with the 9" bbl, wood panels and the steel reciever. Traded it for my 1st magnum-a 4-5/8" New model Blackhawk .357.

Ruger 10/22, got it last year for Christmas. Only been able to shoot it once since then, but that's gonna change over Spring Break =).

Mine was a Ruger Mark II with the 6inch blued barrel. Great plinker.

Now, I still have the Mark II, and A New Model Single Six and a GP 161 blued.
The Single Six is a blast to shoot with Winchester Magnums,

My first handgun was two bought at the same time. A S&W model 13 3" .357 and a Beretta Jetfire .25.

Ended up trading the Beretta to my brother-in-law for an expensive Minolta flash meter when he quit doing photography. I don't regret this trade, I liked the Jetfire but the flash meter has seen a lot more use :)

Model 13 went away with the first wife. It was later stolen under suspicious circumstances -- alarm company said we will not be monitoring you system this weekend due to a system upgrade. Someone broke in that very Saturday night. Inside job? Her house had not been broken into before, nor since.

I miss the 3" Model 13 and would jump on another.

Neither.

This was my first handgun. It was my first gun in general. I built it (from a kit) and learned to shoot it 25 years ago, or so.

...a goverment issue 1911A1. Also, and because I was used to it, was my first purchased pistol

Colt Combat Commander .45. Problem child. Traded for proven technology Colt M1917. 15+ years later, still not sure about that one.
