1911, .45 ACP by Springfield...

bought it second hand, it stove piped all the time and I was not very accurate with it.

sold it and got a new Taurus .357 w/ 6" barrel.....no more problems hitting the center of the target:)

would like to get another gov't .45, but it seems like you need to drop $1K to get a good one......got to feed the family first.

Beretta 92F - after 20 great years, traded towards a Colt XSE - after 1 sketchy year traded towards an HK P2000.

First handgun owned: Ruger Mark I Target (inherited from a relative who died).

First handgun purchased: Ruger Security Six.

Still have the Mark I, but traded off the Security Six for a Dan Wesson that I sold to finance a S&W Highway Patrolman. Wish I still had the Ruger, though.

+1 on never forgetting your first. The first gun i fired ever at age 14 was a smith 686. 16 years later, it ended up being the first hand gun i owned when i bought it from the orginal owner.

My first handgun was a 1911 compliments of the Army, and have been carrying one ever since and that was in 67!

.22 cal Ruger Mk2 5.5 Inch Bull Barrel target model... still have it, still shoot it. (I grew up shooting dad's Mk1 Target model)

Mine was a Colt 38 Spec. Official Police. Bought it new 1964 from a Western Auto store for I think $65.00. Actually I hadn't shot it in over 29 years and a couple weeks ago it took it to the range and put 100 rds. through it. It's still a fine gun smooth trigger pull and pleasant to shoot.

My first pistol was a Ruger Mk I. My dad gave it to me when I was 16 and I still have it. The gun is older than I am.

I wanted a .22 for the simple reason that it was a caliber I'd HEARD of.

I wanted a Luger for about the same reason... so I went to the store planning on buying "A .22 Luger"...

And sure enough they had one! The Stoeger Luger in .22.

I bought it... and LOVED it. I still have it, it still runs great and I still love it. :p

BTW... never get rid of your first, no matter what. :)

My first pistol.

When I was 14, I helped a couple scrape and paint their house. Did it mostly because they were freinds, but also was told I'd be paid something. Upon completion of the last bit of trim work, Dave went in the house and came back out with a Llama 1911. I had it for several years before parts began failing and I traded it for another.

I bought a Ruger Standard Auto in July of 1976. It says "made in the 200th year of American Liberty" on the top of the upper receiver.

I shot THOUSANDS of rounds through that gun. I still have it, although it's getting kind of rattly. I've had to replace lots of parts over the years.

Rossi 3 inch .38. Forgot the model number.

A Model 68 like this??? Mine's a tight, accurate, perfectly timed, and really accurate example. I like the thing a lot.

I would have guessed that the revolver would be way ahead.

25 years ago, it'd been 90 percent revolver, but times change. Some of these kids probably never fired a revolver and the glock/1911 types probably couldn't hit a bull moose at ten feet in DA... They try it and instead of LEARNING HOW TO SHOOT IT, they decide it's "junk".

My SECOND revolver and first quality one was a Ruger Security Six. That's the gun that really taught me how to shoot a revolver. I put a lot of rounds though that gun. Traded it away....:(

My first handgun was a ruger standard 22 with a 4 inch barrel that I bought from a friend of my father with 2 clips and a holster for $30 when I was 8. Great gun I still have it 47 years later. I would love to know how many rounds that old gun has fired. rugerman

I bought my single six in 1966 while stationed in Germany. Mine had the .22 mag cyl.. I'd like to have it back.

note: this advert. is probably from a 1960's magazine, ck the price.

First handgun

A rg single action with a 22 mag cylinder, shot it a lot but one day it snaped in two at the frame. Threw it away and bought a ruger; still works. Do not think it will break even with the mighty 22 mag!;)
