My first (Ithaca super single .410) was a Christmas gift from my Dad so I could hunt with him and my grandfather. I was 8 and still have it. It will be going to my granddaughter (my first grandchild).
My first firearm purchase was at the age of 18. Bought a Glenfield model 60 from Walmart. Still have it, and it's going to my grandson (second grandchild).

My first gun, like many of us Boomers, was a beat up old Stevens Favorite. A neighbor had it and I finally talked Dad ( he had no interest in guns ) into paying three dollars for it. This was in the early 60s. I was twelve or thirteen, don't really remember which. Bought a box of shells for 39 cents and dad took me shooting. In the six decades since I have owned and sold dozens of guns. I had to get rid of most of them because I went in the Army in 67, got out in 70 and got married. I had no guns for a few years. About ten years ago the oil boom in N.D. started. I had inherited mineral rights to land in McKenzie county and suddenly I had money. I had a C&R license and I started chasing down the guns that I had loved the most and had to sell. I found nearly all of them and they were in much better shape than the ones I had lost. One day I got a call from my Brother in law that a friend of his had a little 22 rifle for sale. You guessed it , it was a nice little Favorite, In a handmade wooden case and with three boxes of antique ammo. Antique enough that a box of shorts was loaded with "semi smokeless powder." I told him that the ammo might be worth more than the gun. All of the boxes were full. It's too bad the seal on the purple box was broken. It alone, with the seal intact, would have been worth more than the rifle. Anyway I gave him $400 for everything because I knew he was strapped for cash.
The gun itself was in excellent condition. with a perfect bore and as tight as the day it left the factory. It is very accurate as well. Of all the guns I have loved and lost I had missed that little Stevens the most. I had found the last missing piece in my puzzle.

Savage model 67E pump in 12ga. Bought it from Gruntz Brothers Sporting Goods in Big Rapids MI after I graduated college in 1982. Only gun I owned for several years, and yes I still have it.

Mossberg 500 20 ga with select choke. Still have it. And i hunt with it. I got it in 1977 from my father. When i took my hunter safety course. When he picked me up. The gun was in the back seat of the car. I still memember that day like it was yesterday. We went for doves. I shot a few.

Mine was a Winchester 190 rifle in .22LR. My gun-shy mother had finally been convinced by her husband to let him sell it to me when I was nineteen or so (late 1985, I think.) When my stepfather died in 1986, his son came around and asked about the rifle. I let him take it, and replaced it with a Ruger 10/22. The Ruger, I still have. Out of nostalgia, I picked up another 190 a year or so back, the first one I'd laid eyes on since handing over the other one.
My first was a Daisy pump, my father bought for me when I was 11-12. (65-66) He had to go to NY to get it because they were not legal in Commi Jersey at the time.
The first "real" gun was a Armalite AR-7 I bought when I got my NJFAID card. It was just as Armalite sold out to Charter arms the gun was marked Armalite AR-7 Costa Mesa, CA but the box said Charter Arms. I still have the gun but not the box!
At about the same time period I had applied for a pistol permit, (it was the same form as the ID card, same info and references).
Once I had permit in hand I went to the local gunstore at the time (Leslie Edelman's) and bought a new Colt Govt. model ($167.00
).
When I got home my father was waiting for me (he was never a big gun guy, I guess never was after his cousin shot him bird hunting) he said I needed to call the gun store asap.
When I got them on the phone they begged me to bring the Colt back, they sold it to me by mistake, ( I was only 18).
After returning it, I needed to get a new permit ($5.00 at the time) since the first one was no longer valid.
My second legal gun was a Ruger MKl bull bbl. I still have today

I was a naughty boy... .
A couple of months later we moved yet again and wound up in a partially-finished row house that someone had left in a hurry.
I found a Baby Colt clone in a couch that was by the curb, a .22 bolt-action in a closet and a hard-rubber 1911 in a discarded chest of drawers.
All disappeared as soon as a parent noticed them.
I was almost six years old.
It was over a decade before I actually purchased a firearm but many other guns passed through my hands in the meantime.
The only one that stuck was an 1858 Remington clone - that I still have.

Not the first gun that I fired but the first one that I actually bought for myself was a nickel plated S&W 39-2 semi-automatic in 1979. I liked it but I sold it a few years later in favor of a Beretta 92F with higher round capacity.
The first gun I ever fired was a Winchester 69a that my father fitted with a Lyman peep sight and cut down the stock to fit my 10 year old arms. I still have it, along with a full size stock.

My first gun was a gift from my dad when I was 12 yo in 1981 right after I completed a hunter safety course. It was an H&R 20ga break action shotgun.
My dad wasn't really a hunter, but he gave me two of the most important things in my life, an introduction to hunting and fishing, two things that give my "soul" peace and make me feel like i am part of our natural world.
We started pheasant hunting but we didn't have much luck, but it was among the best time I've ever have with my awesome dad! I would pass this stuff down to my 2 boys.
I moved on to mammals and became a RIFLEMAN over the last 41 years. But I still have that old single shot 20ga, and I've use it with my boys. I keep it cleaned and oiled. And I still take it out sometimes and run some rounds with it. I will pass it down to my boys and hope the outdoors gives them what it's given me. Thanks dad! I really miss you!

First gun was a Marlin Model 60 for my 5th birthday. It was stolen from my mom's house after I went into the military.
First gun(s) that I bought with my own money, mom actually did the paperwork, were a Ruger 10/22 and a Yugo SKS on the same day when I was 16. Still have the Ruger but the Yugo was stolen along with the Marlin and a couple other guns I had acquired over the intervening years.

Walther P99 in 40S&W. Bought right on my 21st birthday. Still have it to this day and gets carried on occasion.
The first gun I ever bought for myself is my Winchester Ranger Pump 12ga. I still have and use it today for bird hunting. I found it's badass brother, the Defender about 10 years ago. Both have the smoothest pump action of any shotgun I have ever shot. Ranger is on the top.

An interesting topic! I don't have any of my first guns, airgun nor firearms. My first was a Daisy, actually wore it out! My first real guns were a single shot .22LR (like a Chipmunk but I can't recall who actually made it, maybe Stevens?), the other being a single shot 20ga. The .22LR eventually went to a younger relative as it far too short in LOP to shoot once I hit my teens. Can't recall what happened to the 20ga, dad probably gave it away.
But I do still have the first firearms I actually purchased with my own money and by filling out my own paperwork. The first was my BHP, purchased on the day I turned 21. It needs a bit of work to bring it back to serviceable (needs an extractor, I think) but it was my primary CCW for 20 years or so. The other was a used .22LR purchased in the same shop, a Ruger Mk I. While I once thought to keep the BHP forever and be buried with it, I now have to plans to ever CCW it again as technology and doctrine has changed the situation for me. I have no huge attachment to the latter but after being refinished twice by a shadetree gunsmith it's probably not worth anything to sell (yet it still works fine).
