First Handgun

My dad bought me my first gun......

A Charles Daly ECS. Blued, 3in bbl, 1911A1 copy.

I was only 20, so it was in his name until i turned 21 later that year. Foolishly sold it for a Glock 26 and some money. Have wanted to get it back and finally convinced the person i sold it to, to sell it back to me.

Buying it back for $250, which is what i sold it for, and I'm gettin a nice leather holster for it also......

Will have it back in about a month. Guess somebody is looking out for me up there:)

My dad and I joined an NRA club together and he bought me a High Standard .22 and a very loose 1911A1 made by Remington Rand. Shooting hardball offhand in a loose .45 was not the best way to start but I did learn. They are both long gone.

Colt Woodsman Target. Bought new about 1970. Still have ,semi-retired but still fun to plink with it. Use Ruger Mark II Competition now.

CZ75b in 40 SW. I had been planning on a 97, but they were rather spendy and would have required a special order. Outfitted it with some snazzy hakan grips.

I bought a used S&W Model 10, 4 inch, blued, heavy barrel 38 Spl from a guy where I worked in 1973. I paid $125 for it and found out later I could have brought a new one for less. However it had as sweet a trigger as any gun I've owned since including Pythons and pre-WWII S&Ws.
Unfortunately like others have already said I thought I needed something else and sold it.
Wish I had it back.

I'm not entirely sure of the model number, but the gun was a Taurus .357 magnum revolver, blue with a 6" barrel. About a week later I bought the then all-new and revolutionary Glock 22, 40S&W. I sold both guns after owning them for less than a year; not sure what I bought with the money afterwards - probably Sig-something, but there have been too many guns now come and gone for me to recall accurately.

The top one is my first handgun, bought it new 1972, 21st birthday gift to myself. Stoeger .22 Luger......got the lower one some years later, same gun with optional Stoeger adjustable rear sights

11 years ago on my 21st birthday I purchased a Ruger P89 (it rattled like a toy but was good-enough for the money), a few months later I traded it for a first generation Taurus PT-100 :banghead:

If I could go back and do it all over again I would've bought a Ruger Mark II (6 7/8" Bull) instead, enjoy a lot of affordabble plinking, then spend a little more money and spring for a Sig 226 as my HD gun.

BTW, this is my first post on this board (been lurking a bit :)), I must say you guys are a great resource!

The first handgun I ever fired was a Ruger Single-Six .22, c. 1969. The first handgun I ever purchased was a Ruger Security Six c. 1984 ... from Monkey Wards, no less. ;)

my first was a lightly used sig sauer 226. i got it at the age of 20. i loved that thing, but it was a bit too large for my needs. now i opt for the glock 26.

get this though....

before i set my money down on the sig, i almost wasted some of it on a P11. after i shot it, i had a quick change of mind.

Iver and Johnson Bicycle Works .32 hammerless. Got from my granddad when he died. I was 16 when I got it, not really a gun guy than so, I had a buddy incase it and it has been on the wall ever since. I was told it was fireable. I found out he got it from his dad, pretty cool.

Smith & Wesson 422. Six inch barrel. Fixed sights. Still in the safe, though it needs some work (New firing pin). It never jammed on me, was plenty accurate for what I needed, and taught me about trigger control. I even used it on a few occassions as a defensive handgun with Mini-Mags. What was I thinking? I was a poor student, and it was my only gun.

besides the 9 mil I shot in the military all I ever had were rifles, just 2 weeks ago I traded a 30.06 for an sp 101 Ruger I am hooked the next week I bought an s&w model 60 38 special and I am now on the hunt for a .45,1911. Next week I am going to start the process for my ccw.
