1st handgun...whoa yea!!!!

Mine's was a NIB Glock 19.Got it 3 days after my 21st birthday.I was certain I wanted a glock in 9mm.That was almost a year ago(I'm 22 now) and have since added a G17 and Sig P229 in .40 w/.357sig conversion barrel.A few extra mags for all and never enough ammo.Next up will be a USPf 45 by H&K.Followed by a 6in 357magnum wheelgun.And finally a 12 gauge and rifle.It's great to be a firearms enthusiast.GUNS FOREVER!

Star 9mm Largo

My first gun was a Star Super 9mm Largo. I still have it but don't shoot it much because it's so hard to find ammo.

My first Handgun. An Auto Ordinance 45 auto. Parkarized finish and fixed sights. I had it for about 2 years. It was awful to pull the trigger on - I think I only put a couple boxes through it before I traded it in for a Ruger Single Service Six 357. After that I never looked back. Wish I still had all of them today.

Ruger Mk. II Target, blue. I got this one as soon as I turned 21. I still have it, and have just put a red dot on it. (haven't tried it yet like that)

Soon after that, I bought a Ruger KP90. (couldn't afford a Glock 21, and was told this one is just as rugged and accurate) Still have this one too.

Beretta 85F, its a little .380 that I bought from a guy here in town who got busted smoking the old reefer. I was about 19 at the time, still have it, shoot it and carry it regurally. I have a lot of pistols now, but every time I take someone out and teach them to shoot, this is the pistol of choice. Its small enough not to scare the females with barely more recoil than a .22. I've brought fifteen shooters into the gun world with an afternoon at the range using this gun. Need to track that guy down and thank him for being an aging hippy. :D

My first hand gun is a High Standard Sentinel Deluxe, 9-shot .22lr. Bought it for $50 from a co-worker less than 6 months ago. My first centerfire i just bogut 2 weeks ago, a CZ-52. And I plan on keeping both of these for many, many years.

A 5.5" heavy barreled Browning Challenger III in .22 LR I bought new in the mid 1980s for $225. I actually wanted a used High Standard Supermatic Trophy, but I couldn't find one I could afford, bought the Browning instead since it shared some of the good looks of the High Standard and had a couple of good writeups at the time.

Shot the Browning lots, itserved me well for about 6 or 7 years, then I traded it for a SIG-Sauer P220 in .45acp in the early 1990s when the pistol bug really bit me... still have the SIG, don't miss the Browning much since I finally got my High Standard Supermatic Trophy I always wanted!!

A COLT 22 short derringer Don t remember the name or model, came in a wood case . They also came in a set. Couldn t afford 2 as I bought with the money from my paper route. I was 12 at time my mother took me to buy it.

An Enfield No. 1, Mk. II * in .38/200 (.38 S&W) that I bought in '90 or '91 when I was 22 or 23. I saw it in the case and had to have it. I'm a sucker for military guns and the price was right.

I still have it and need to find some .38 S&W somewhere as I can't remember the last time I shot it. It was the only handgun I owned for quite awhile and served fine as a home defense gun. I couldn't carry in those days (no one here could, really) and I was more into shooting .22 rifles back then anyway.

My first was a Ruger Mk2 5.5" bull barrel. Bought it used when I was 16. Dad signed the papers so legally it was his. I put about a zillion rounds through that gun before it was stolen. It was recovered 14 years later....in the woods right at the edge of my yard where it was apparently dropped! It`s rusted so baddly that the frame is almost rotted through and the bolt is one with the reciever. I still have it though,it sits on display on a shelf right above my computer desk. Marcus

Marcus,

You should call Ruger and tell them about your situation. I mean, the gun was originally STOLEN, it's not like you dropped it in the woods yourself. I bet they'll either replace it outright if your'e willing to send it in, or cut you a really good deal on a new gun. Personally, I'd do it soon, while the Mk. II's are still in the pipeline before they only have the new MK III's available.

If you do call, let us know what they say, even if you decide not to replace it. I'm sure I'm not the only one here who's curious to see their response.

I'm not sure yet, since i'm not 21 yet. Got a few months to go.

I've only ever fired a Sig P226 and Glock 21. I liked them both and the recoil of the .45 didn't bother me at all, although I found it was near impossible to get more than 8 or 9 rounds into the rental Glock's 10rd magazine (Is this common with castrated post ban magazines, or was it just probably a crappy abused rental magazine?).

More than likely i'll purchase some sort of 9mm pistol when I turn 21 in August.

Here I am, after reading and posting on TFL for several years, and now here at THR since it was formed admiting that I do not infact own a firearm currently (This is due to having no money, and living in an anti-gun household, but whatever, i'm buying a pistol once I turn 21). At least i'm well versed in firearms laws, terminology and what not after at least 4 years of occasional reading.

Any suggestions on ranges in SE WI/Northern Illinois (Lake county)? Not that it matters at the moment since I can't rent a handgun or buy ammunition to shoot at the range anyway due to my age.

a WW2, Colt 1911A1, well worn but still dead reliable. Bought it about a month and a half after my 21st B-day, had it about 3 months, didn't get to shoot it much due to have to much to do "getting my life together" and too little time to do it. gave it to a friend as a rotary-wing flight school Graduation gift. i know she's still got it and that it IS appreciated, only regret is tht to this day that thing was the ONLY colt i've ever owned that was worth spit. such is life :D

1st ever: Colt Police Positive .38 that I found as a kid in Grandmom's house after her 2nd husband (not my grandpop) died. Immediately confiscated by my dad. I got it from him after I turned 21. (Years later traded to my bro-in-law for a S+W 422 - .22lr auto.)

1st gun I bought: Taurus PT99AF. Just before I got married in the early "wondernine" days (mid 80's). Later traded, along with an old 12 guage pump for a new Kahr K40 when I wanted an auto for carry.

1st carry gun: when I first got my CCW permit I bought a S+W 640 .357. I did a lot of homework before picking my first gun for carry and think I made a good choice. I don't carry it much anymore and rarely shoot it at the range, but every once in a while it occurs to me that it's probably one of the best possible carry guns due to power and "carryability". Can't bring myself to get rid of it although sometimes I think about trading it for a M65, M66, 686 or GP100.

Interesting thread.

My first handgun was a Glock 17 that my dad bought for me in 1986 when I was 16. I have put an untold number of rounds through it over the years and it has seen some rough use/abuse. I still have it today and it is more often than not my primary carry gun.

I bought a FEG PA-63. I liked it at first then had some reliablity issues with it. I traded it and cash for a CZ 75 P-01. Haven't looked back since.

When I was 15 my Dad helped me buy a Phoenix Arms HP22. It was a great little gun that I put many thousands of rounds through. I usually bought at least one 500 round pack of .22 ammo per month for many years.
