What was your first handgun?

My first was a Ruger Mk2 5.5" bull barrel. Bought it used when I was 16. Dad signed the papers so legally it was his. I put about a zillion rounds through that gun before it was stolen. :cuss: It was recovered 14 years later....in the woods right at the edge of my yard where it was apparently dropped! :banghead: It`s rusted so baddly that the frame is almost rotted through and the bolt is one with the reciever. I still have it though,it sits on display on a shelf right above my computer desk. Marcus

My first firearm was a .38 Colt Police Positive which still resides in the gun safe today. Of all the makes and models I own, none is more naturally suited to my hand than that little beauty. It points like my finger and thus as you can imagine it's the one I shoot the best. The only problem is that I'm so darned fond of the piece that I'm loathe to shoot it much for fear of wearing it out. :(

If only I'd bought two....:banghead:

My first was an Alphabet Ruger Bearcat in 1957 or 1958 right after they came out. Still got that puppy in the original box with all of the paperwork. One of my kids or grandkids is going to get it for their own one of these days.

Llama commander-sized 1911. After 2 trips to the factory under the 1 year warrenty, I traded it off for a Norinco. Best deal I ever made in my life.

First revolver was a colt diamondback and I still shoot it.

First autoloader was a 44 automag model 180 and I still have it. Never fired in box.

First 22 was a ruger mk1.

All of the above date back about 25 years now.

Beretta 92G Elite 2. it is still my primary cometition pistol. i got it all tricked out to how i like it. i bought it new when i was 24 or 25. it's the most reliable pistol i have ever seen. its run reliably for thousands of rounds without cleaning. i would totally trust my life to it.

Like a few others who have replied, mine was an H&K USP Compact in .40 S&W, purchased for self-defense after foiling an attempted home break-in with nothing but a lot of yelling and a call to 911... my effort to learn how to shoot it lead me down the road to a few more H&K's (and a few others along the way), to USPSA Limited/Limited 10 competition, and to knowing some of the best people in the world. The USPc still runs like a deer, after thousands of rounds. My thanks to Target Sports in Royal Oak, MI....my home away from home.

First handgun was a Colt 1917 45 ACP, "loaned" to me by my father.
My first practical carry gun was a Makarov which still pulls duty as truck-gun.
Fired a box thru it just yesterday as a matter of fact.
A wonderful piece.

My First Pistol

I was nine, nearly ten years old...

For reasons that are probably of no interest, I was getting about 2K rounds per month of GI .45 ACP ball ammo.

My dad discovered I had about 10K rounds in my closed and suggested I get rid of some...so I traded 3K for a Union Switch and Signal 1911 in excellent condition at my local gun emporium....

They asked if my Dad knew I was buying a .45... I said yes... he didn't but didn't care either.... I then took the bus back home with my 1911, and the four magazines he threw in with the deal (three of which were two tone with lanyard rings... which no one wanted at the time because they hurt your hand when seating them.)

It was a pretty good deal.

My first was a S&W 910 9mm. Bought it after my divorce was final, that was 5yrs ago. Still have it, taking up space in the safe.

Later,

Dave

My first was a S&W 627, Performance Center 357. I waited 45 years to get one, and made sure my first was a nice one! I don’t know why I waited so long to find this addiction to gunpowder! I almost sold it a while back to get a smaller carry gun, but I came to my senses before it was too late.

Back in 1968 for my 14th birthday: Dad took me out to a gun shop and we picked out a brand new Firearms International Regent .22 revolver with a six inch barral. He pasted away the very next year but had already taught me everything I needed to know about handling firearms as well as life in general. Still have that revolver as well as my first rifle that I received when I was thirteen. My children, now grown ups, received their first firearms about the same age as I.

Gee ... brings back memories ... 55 years ago, home made .22 "handgun". Me and Joey were shooting tin cans at the local dingle when a cop noticed us and confiscated the little gem.

Got a lecture too, as I recall.

And yes, at age 11, you could indeed by .22 ammo at the local Western Auto store.

My first gun was a 6-inch Dan Wesson Model 15-2 in .357 Magnum, bought NIB in the late 70's for about $200. Big gun but a great shooter! No, I don't have it any longer since I traded it towards a Taurus 9mm just after they first hit the market. (I thought the Taurus was good too, but I never could get used to that long DA trigger.)

The first one I fired was my grandfather's Colt Government Model, when I was 11.
The first I owned was a Smith & Wesson .38/44 Heavy Duty.
I got a quick start, you see.

My first was a 1964 manufacture Sistema 1911, which I got when I was 17. Since then, I've replaced the grip safety, trigger, thumb safety, sights, hammer, sear, and disconnector with new parts. I relieved and beveled the magwell (now mags always drop free). I had a gunsmith friend give it a trigger pull of about 3 or 3.5 pounds, and a local shop undercut the trigger guard for me. I got into reloading for it, and still shoot mostly my own handloads with it. I've used it to compete in IDPA, IPSC, and one summer biathlon match. I've taken it to two pistol classes, and I carry it fairly frequently.

Needless to say, I won't be selling it, ever.

My first handgun, which I still own, was a S&W 617 revolver with 8 3/8 inch full lug barrel. I bought it used after I fell in love with its trigger. It is an excellent gun, very accurate. Only drawback is its weight. It is way too heavy for a .22LR, IMHO.

My first handgun....Gp100 357,6"
like a dork I traded it in:mad:
if I had every gun I'm sorry I traded,I'd have a great collection..live and learn.....:(

My dad gave me a S & W 686 6" combat, .357 revolver. He told me it was mine when I was a little kid. He told me I could only touch, or look at it if he was there (otherwise I would never see it again... I obeyed). He held on to it until I asked him for it in my early twenties. I still have it, but my dad likes to shoot it more than I do, so he keeps it from time to time.
One tough pistol! Still looks almost brand new, with many thousands or rounds through it! :)
