If police departments banned the use of semi auto pistols tomorrow, what kind of revolver would you carry? Old, new, used, what caliber, what model what brand, etc.

I carried a S&W Mdl 58 .41 magnum for 13 years, I guess I could do it again if I was invited!!;)

I would get back out my S&W 686 4" round butt and its duty holster , carryed it for years and wouldnt hesitate to again .

I would carry what the department mandated me to carry and smile, and say , yes sir, yes sir, three bags full.

My Smith 620. That 7th shot would make me feel mighty comfortable. That, and the fact that it balances perfectly; now, I just need to stop pulling the gun down in DA....

Taurus 66SS4

Weighs 38oz, .357 mag, 7 shots-- well balanced accurate. I would petition to carry an auto loader. Then I would carry the new Taurus 24/7 OSS in a .45acp or .40 cal I have money down on one of these babies! I am ex-LE and this Taurus would have been it for me.

Have a good one gentlemen!

Just like the name, 4". Incidentally, some departments still let you use them, lot of times you get to pick from a list of firearms that are compatible with their particular standards. I think a 686 would be a fine choice.

For patrol...

1. S&W 625 4" (.45 ACP w/full moon clips)
2. S&W 27 5" (.357 magnum)

For plainclothes...

1. S&W 586 3" (.357 magnum)...rare in 3"; excellent gun
2. S&W 19 2 1/2" (.357 magnum)

As much as I like revolvers, I'd take a high-cap Glock 9mm with 115-gr. Federal JHPs. I also wouldn't mind having a 7- or 8-shot .357 revolver with 125-gr. JHPs. Actually, I wouldn't say no to having both.

A lot has to do with where you are. I've oft thought that in that famous shootout on the highway where everyone missed at guntable ranges that had the good guys had revolvers it might have ended differently.

It's hard to keep your eye on the front sight when there's return fire.

My choice would be an old fashon Colt Official Police 4 inch OR if none available an old fashion S&W M-10 4 inch light barrel.

Ammunition. .38 Special+P LSWCHP.

Why? Plain jain weapon with no bulk, light, easy to handle with one hand but heavy enough to take recoil and proven service weapons loaded with proven manstoppers.
