What would YOU carry into battle?

Steyr AUG in whatever caliber the enemy is using. Modified to take M16 mags if that caliber's 5.56 or 6.8 SPC or 6.5 Grendell (my favorite). The backup irons MUST be dead-nuts ON, and I'll file the notch as much as needed to accomplish that.

If by chance the enemy is using 7.62x39, a Valmet M76 with tritiums.

If the enemy is using 7.62 NATO, an M14 with an ART scope and the best ghillie suit I can get/make/appropriate.

If the enemy is ChiCom with that new small caliber I've heard of, then one of their rifles with tritiums.

I'm with the map, compass and get off the front lines guys.

Snark, ISSD's are too bloody hard to hide. The idea of one operating completely independently is somewhat laughable.. to the same degree as a US super carrier doing the same.

It depends, am I a guerilla fighter who must hit and run? If that is the case give me a Thompson Encore. Shoot the bad guy, put it under my coat and unass the AO. If I am a member of a supported rifle squad give me any reliable select fire rifle. If I am defending my house against a small gang of criminals and afterwards I will have to defend myself in court give me a 357 or 44 lever action, a Remington 7600 pump rifle with a couple of 10 round magazines or a pump 12 gauge. That way I can show the court I was forced to bring out my hunting gun and defend my family from the zombie alien bikers.

M4A4 "Assault Carbine" :D with a Glock G17 in a Safariland thigh holster.

The M4 would have an ACOG mounted and there would be some type of light attached. Probably the top of the line Surefire that replaces / attaches to the hand guards. A Vortex flash hider is a must. A Chalker (sp) sling would complete the package. The Glock would be stock with the exception of fixed Tritium sights.

First: My recently resoled Danners, vest, compass, map. A radio if anyone is listening.

Then to mission. If sneaky, the PSS, as I like mine. If not, usually the FAL. Maybe a para to save a tad of weight and bulk, but I have never fired one and 21" sure works well.
Though I like irons, probably stick the ARMS mount back on there, get an aimpoint M68 on the rail grabber so I can take the PVS-15 off my helmet and put it on the rifle, as seen heah.

And a few FN TelGrens or similar nice, light rifle grenades.

I think there's, like, three separate threads going on here now, cool. But if the original question was what battle rifle would you choose, I'd probably pick something FAL-like in .308 (for the big bullets and the range), but would also be happy with an AK-47 kind of thing (for the simplicity, reliability, and capacity).

If it had to be a choice of what is in my gun safe, then I'd take my SAR-1. I actually prefer it over my Oly Arms AR.

If it were a choice of any weapon in the world, it would be an M4 carbine, specifically serial # W016312, which is the rifle I carried in both Kosovo and Afghanistan. She served me well in both places and I'd trust her to serve me equally as well again.

What would I carry away from battle? Something light.

If I couldn't run/crawl/roll away? Something big. With lots of ammo.

if I had a choice an it was free?easy..a GE minigun..like the one used in the first predator movie. If not..then I guess itd be a pair of rugers and a fal.

A: reliable as all get out
B: ammo and mags are cheap and plentiful.

should be more than enough weapon for me to "procure" whatever weapon the force that is attacking us is using. most likely an AK-74, IMHO. plus, it fits in my truck well, as I'm high-tailing it out of town to my brother's pad in the Upper Peninsula. :neener:

The British Grenadiers

Whenever we're commanded
to storm a palisade
our leaders march with fusils
and we with hand grenades.

The six-pack in Predator:
  • Was not an XM-214 (.223)
  • Was an M-134 (.308) modded to act like an XM-214
  • With the external power, and as much ammo as shown, would be too heavy for any human tocarry
  • Even Jesse Ventura
See them

Real XM-214s are cool, but vehicle mounted weapons. :(

If that XM-214 thing is California legal, count me in! ;)

If not, my M1A, Mossberg 500, and Glock 17C. And a couple of friends with a 60mm mortar...

My chinese SKS would be a must. For longer range I would use my Swedish mauser (of which I am an accomplished shot) and for CQB I would probably use my Bushy M17. Oh yeah and my 1911 as well.;)

HI

-2x Glock 18 LC's with the 3 shot selector not full auto and 30 round mags.

- Sig 5xx series "head quaters" model and c-mags with TAP or Black hills 77grain stuff.

-Bren L4A1 with C-mags in .308

- South african 40mm grenade launcher that is like a large revolver.

Hey Ogre-

I am just such a fan of the M1 that is what I would like to have.

I personally have never fired an M14 but I do own a Mini-14 and love it. I'm sure the M14 is a much better weapon than the Mini so I can see no reason why I wouldn't fall in love all over again if I fired one!

I find that I am fairly accurate and very comfortable with my M1. So I guess it is purely a mental thing that would make me carry the M1. Strange huh?

Just one battle rifle for everything?
CQB, open battlefield, mountain, airborne, artic, woods, jungle, swamp, desert, urban, suburban, country, rock & roll and all that jazz...

Cost is no object, and someone is bankrolling?

G3A4K

I gotta get it myself?

Springfield SOCOM

I gotta get it with what I have in the bank right now because we are heading out Monday at Noon because the Cubans are landing at the highschool in the next state over?

AK-47 variant of some sort.

I understand the 1911 but why the garand over the m14??

Well, you can load the Garand faster than the M14. Think about it, with the M14 you have to remove the magazine, do something with it, get a new one and slap 'er in and then operate the action. With the Garand you just grab another clip, slam it in the proper way and you don't even have to touch the operating rod. Of course you might lose your clips but they are really light and inexpensive.

Of course, you have to reload the Garand more often. Always a trade off.

semi auto V Select fire

To be honest, full auto is probably best left untouched on a battle rifle. Might be useful up close but there are drawbacks as well.
